What are you all up to

Been a lovely day here today warm and sunny. We spent 3 hours this morning getting the caravan cleaned out inside and emptied a lot of things out that we don’t need it’s amazing what you find. We haven’t been away in the van since November and found bulbs we had bought in a garden centre to plant in the garden at home. Any way van all nice and clean now and hopefully a bit lighter ready for the off at the end of the week. Just cooked dinner on the BBQ tonight and now just sitting in the sun out in our summer house.
Hope everyone else has had a nice weekend

That's us all ready for the off in the morning, heading down to a CL in D&G for 4 days then coming back up to a CL near Roslin Chapel for 3 nights, then home for 6.
It will be good to get away, try out the new refurbished seats/beds now they are sprung and not foam.
Only away for a week but it will test everything out before we head off for longer. I've got the hygienist on Tuesday and OH is going to our sons house to help start fitting a new kitchen for him (he is still in Texas). Its been empty since his last tenants left a couple of years ago. They are 'thinking' of putting it up for sale.
Good to hear lots are getting their second jabs, we had ours last wednesday, no problems at all.
WN, enjoy your trip away, I hope MIL has sufficient outfits as befits a lady.

Don’t think so WN. Cheshire is Cholmondley, Easton is Chomeley. I think I spelt family name wrong, and it was Sir Fred we were chatting to, not Lord Cholmeley. Although Sir Fred is married to Lady Chomeley, it’s a bit complicated I think, made worse by me confusing things🤔
Have a lovely time in Bakewell. Fingers crossed the weather is kind for you. 🤞

Have to find a lady first TG.

Have a great trip. It's not Annan you are heading to is it?Thanks for that TTda. Weather looks a mixed bag but 2 out of the 3 days look like being dry. We've arranged to take her to Kedleston Hall on Thursday. The cottage is nearer to Matlock than Bakewell but we'll get there as well. We're breaking the journey up tomorrow to stop at Arley Hall near Northwich for an hour or so.

WN, have a good time up in the Dales, and the same goes for TH in D&G and Edinburgh, and you too Francis. The weather should be reasonable for you all, looking at the forecast.
Good to hear that many are getting their second jabs now. Hope those that haven't had them soon get theirs.
We moved over to Bulley near Gloucester today. Easy drive apart from a short detour as there's no direct access onto the A40 West at Junct. 11 on the M5, so had to initially ahead East to first roundabout to join the West bound carriageway. Fine quiet site with good walks directly from it and a bargain at £12 pn. It's no wonder it's full too.

It was our daughter's birthday at the weekend so we had tea and cake in their garden on Saturday afternoon. We all had to have our pre arranged time slot so we kept to the rule of 6 or 2 households. Yesterday they met up with her brother, our eldest son, and his family at the coast. Despite living only a 15 minute drive from each other they hadn't seen each other since before Christmas. She sent a lovely photo of the cousins meeting up again. It was so good to see.
ABM the Cholmeley family at Easton Walled Gardens also pronounce their name Chumley. The family have owned the estate for 400 years. The house is no longer there as it was requisitioned by the army during WWII and was later demolished. However certain buildings do still remain - the gatehouses etc - and are now very nice holiday cottages.
Our road is closed this week for resurfacing which it going to be good fun (not
). All they seem to be doing at the moment is moving a lot of heavy equipment around with a lot of workmen watching
.I hope all those away or planning to be away soon have a lovely time and that the good weather holds. If it rains (which we desperately need) I hope it only rains at night. Take care out on the roads.

Millie, it must be so good for you and the family to see each other again. We have another couple of weeks and then we travel north to see our son and family. Our eldest daughter is on the list too. Feel as though we must fit things in quickly just in case of anything else happening!
I've just caught up with washing etc today and at least the van is clean and ready for the next turnaround. Hope the holidays are good for all those heading for the hills and dales!
Would you believe it, the cat had a more expensive break per night than us! 🐱 Thank goodness he didn't buy any plants and pasties....

I would believe it brue. When we used to go to France every year the cost per night for our 2 cats at the cattery was far more expensive than our cost per night for 2 of us plus van using our Camping Cheques

We're back home now from our long weekend (but short in distance). Glorious weather for sitting outside the caravan, but not so glorious for the fields around us that need some rain.
We didin't do much (in fact nothing at all) - just sat and read with the occassioanl drink. The solar panel (basic suitcase type) kept the battery topped up. Not that it had much to do - just the lights, toilet and USB charging sockets. Fridge, water heater, cooker on gas. No TV or other fancy stuff.
In the evenings we watched a couple of concerts on my IPad.
I've discovered a new skill - I cut my husbands hair and surprised myself when it didin't look too bad. He sat outside on the caravan step and having no mirror to hold up for him, I took photos to show him. He's got better hair than me - very thick and curly.

Wherenext - hope you have a good time in the Peak District, but please don't use up all the sunshine!

Kedleston Hall looks interesting, think we might try to get down there for a day when we are up that way. You say your cottage is near Matlock - where abouts exactly? Ours is in the village of Birchover, lots of walks straight put the door, looking forward to it but hope it won't be too busy on BH weekend. I've found an interesting walk to Chatsworth starting at Pilsley village which, hopefully, means avoiding the traffic heading to the house (not to mention avoiding the car parking charges!) and has the added benefit of being just a few hundred yards from the farm shop.👍
Still waiting to hear from The Packhorse!

A cooler day and there was a touch of frost on the ground as I left this morning bound for North Shields and Breakfast at Tynemouth beach.
The last two are for CY, the large cruise ship was at the Royal Quays just before North Shields and next to where the ferry to Amsterdam comes in. It's been there a few weeks now and was there during the first lockdown. There appeared to be people cleaning all the balconies so perhaps it will be back in service soon?

We visited Kedleston a few years ago, interesting place. I think Curzon built it predominantly to exhibit his treasures. OH wants to go back, I have other places on my list.
Mixed day for me today. Spent all afternoon tidying greenhouse and potting up dahlias and other tender stuff, trying to bring them on. Way too cold to put anything out overnight, so have dozens of pots now awaiting the next stage when things finally warm up at night. This was stress relief from a morning spent achieving nothing because of bureaucracy, uncontactable Government Departments and a never ending circle of poor information that progressed me nowhere. I do despair of some of the ill thought out procedures some Government Departments have in place.🤷♀️ Very very frustrating. Magnified by Covid as well.☹️0 -
We are stuck with lots of seedlings in the greenhouse too TDA, can't risk planting them or even leaving them out to harden off. Have got to get them in before we go away next so I see a last minute mammoth planting session soon...!
Sorry you've had a battle with "gov.uk" it all looks so well organised until you start to delve deeper....

Got away this morning on time and before the rain started.
Decent easy drive down, never seen so many MHs on the road going north.
So far only us on the CL and someone who has been here for a year (essential worker) lovely views from all pitches, lovely and quiet to, just what we wanted.
WN, we are near New Galloway on the road to Newton Stewart, its called The Brough.
Weather not as good as we have had for weeks now, we have had a couple of light rain showers and more to come overnight. Knew this would happen once we were allowed to travel. Won't bother us just happy to be away.
Hope all other's away have a good time.

We have stayed at The Brough Tammy, nice CL. I seem to recall the pitches being terraced, with the loo and shower down at the bottom of the Site? It’s a long time ago now though, but a lovely location.

Moulesy, we're in a small village called Longcliffe. Railway Cottage found through Cottages.com.
The ladies seem very happy with it, especially MiL whose walk in shower is en suite and was adapted for the elderly/partly disabled in mind. Only need to try the beds now. Views are great and you can access the High Peak Trail directly from the cottage through a gate so bringing a bike or dog walking will be a doddle.
We've done something like the walk you are planning, stopping off at the tea room in Edensor before getting to Chatsworth. Don't know about sunshine for the week. Think we have a bit of rain tomorrow.
Had a lovely stopover at Arley Hall in the warm weather. Will need a return in a couple of months as they're a little behind in planting as some of the volunteers couldn't make it because of Covid. MiL particularly enjoyed it as all of the Tulips were out and they are her favourite flower. There was a Rally going on at the Hall as there must have been over 20 units in the field just passed the carpark.
Nice to hear of your meet up Millie and good to hear that the Scottish tribe are now in full swing.
Sounds good TG.0 -
Thanks, Corners. The cruise lines seem to be offering "sightseeing only" trips round the UK for this summer. Must be desperate to get bums on seats to help with the overheads after so long with no income.

ooooo, Having trouble with the keyboard this afternoon, purely due to having sat out in the fresh air for a while, then being invited indoors by a young(ish) lady
. Twenty minutes later I was invited to pay up and go elsewither
And that's why I am F-F- Freezing now with ice bergs in my hot coffee, but at least the morning/evening ablutions won't take two or more towels to dry off !!Just in case there are folks out there wondering, well the answer is :- Brian A B M has had his, very much needed, HAIR-CUT !!
Whoopeeee !
1 -
Well that should put a spring in your step Brian! I get mine done tomorrow, I've had a go at it myself, I'm not too bad with the hairdressing scissors and it was better than a previous attempt but I'll be pleased to have a more professional cut! OH is keeping his straggling locks till he gets the urge (or sees himself in a window!

What happens to all the hair that has been cut off recently? Does it just get thrown out or is it recycled into wigs?

CS you obviously need to start your climbing mountain routine again as boredom seems to have set in.

Had a grand day out, as Wallace once said. Walked up alongside the River Dove with MiL venturing across it on the stepping stones the retired to Ilam Hall for coffee and cake. Managed it in the dry including the stepping stones adventure. Afternoon we all took a stroll along the High Peak Trail for a while. Still no rain. Nipped into Ashbourne for some food shopping.
Hopefully off to see Arkwrights Mill tomorrow as MiL never seen it and wants to. There's a lovely wood nearby that is usually full of Bluebells and Wild Garlic at this time of year so we'll toddle down the canal and pay it a visit.

Woke up this morning to find we were in a very smoky atmosphere. It was the big grass fire on Marsden moor.
Then the wind changed later this morning and we could breath againThe police were saying it was started accidentally but now they’ve apparently found one of those big multiple firework thingies on the moor.
The fire was a mile long!0 -
Yes its still the same, good sized hs pitches, 3 of them tiered, one grass one at the top of the site and one that sits on its own on the left as you drive down. Toilet and shower still down the bottom, though currently not open. Views are great and very quiet.
As the weather was a bit dull today and showers forecast, we decided to go on a drive.
First drive through the forest area to Newton Stewart, then onto Kirkcubright, nice place. Then Castle Douglas. Stopped off on way for a picnic lunch, then mid afternoon for coffee and cake. Bit of shopping in CD (Wilkos) we don't have one.
Managed to miss the rain showers everywhere we went, arrived back in glorious sunshine and 10 mins later a heavy shower passed over us phew just made it.
WN the cottage sounds lovely.

Really Corners, you should know what happens to the ABM offcuts ~~ as befits one of the RSPB's best , it's recycled in the Bird Shop { The avian version of Dunelm
} The Buzzards were lined up, waving promissory notes they'd been given last November, demanding Hairy Duvets for the hatchlings

Glad you having a good time😁 Two Mills, one is now a shopping outlet, think that is the old Arkwright Mill. The other is being restored as a World Heritage Site, Cromford Mill. Cromford Canal walk has links with Florence Nightingale family I think. There’s a lovely CL called Splash Farm close by, we have used it a few times. Another Mill, still producing items adjacent, think it is called Lea Bridge.
Sounds like the Brough is much as we remember it Tammy. Very nice around there, we are overdue a return visit👍

Matlock's nice for a stroll around too, it all links up, we visited when we stayed at a CL in nearby Crich (the one next to the tram museum, had a good stay there.) Hope the WNs are enjoying their days out.
Well I can't believe I'm excited about being able to take bagged items to a charity shop, but I phoned up first and my bags fit their "allowance" so I can finally off load some of the things I've been clearing out and some "guilty" clothes I haven't worn much! More bags to come but that's the first lot...
Had my hair cut too. 🦚
