What are you all up to

I am getting giddy about this coming Friday.....my first haircut of a professional kind for six months!😁 Things are getting a bit desperate now.......
Just caught up with one of our vets on the gossip grapevine. He has split from his vet wife, both have long kept a good number of our pets in good health, and repaired broken bones, and sprains for us. Rather sad, but they always seemed like chalk and cheese together. Seems amicable though, and both are thriving. He is enjoying his early retirement, having sold the practice on, and his ex wife is now running her own purpose designed animal rehabilitation unit complete with swimming pool, hydrotherapy, laser treatment and acupuncture centre. She is a rather brilliant bone/arthritis specialist, have to credit her with giving us lots of help with our current pooch. He we have known from his first days as a vet, looking after our horse for many years.

Hope you get a nice trim this Friday TDA ! Just make sure you have a warm wrap with you ~~ I didn't and have been sh-sh-shivering ever since, so much so that I was told off in M & S this morning because the check-out staff could not get the reader to check the Christmas Present Gift Cards 'til I laid them down
Still everything was OK- No leaks or dribbles anywhere

Thanks for your comments, all appreciated. The Peak District is second home to us as it was where we spent most weekends when working. Walked everywhere from Kinder Scout down to Osmaston in the south. We used to do a walk that by passed the Tram Museum or just by it and walk on over to Dethick.
Anyway MiL was a trooper today. On her feet walking for over 3 and a half hours all told, with a cuppa and lunch in between but not bad for someone of her age. She's enjoying the change of scenery ( and also falling asleep at 9 pm!
).It's really surprising what tickles the satisfied bone these days. Hair cuts, charity shops, a scone from a takeaway coffee shop. Maybe we've never fully appreciated the ordinary things in life enough.

I agree WN. I dont think we have really appreciated the ordinary things in life enough in the past. Hopefully we wont forget to appreciate them more in the future. These past 2 weeks I have so enjoyed a haircut, coffee in the park with a friend, lunch in a friend's garden, a visit to a charity shop and tea and cake in our daughter's garden to celebrate her birthday. I dont wish for any more.

Sorry, just found this post, WN. As you might expect we were out for most of the day and they stopped racing at 5:00 so no real problem.

We too have stayed there in the past. Tried getting in last year but it was fully booked when we planned to visit. Hopefully we'll get there again when things get back to something like normal.

Can’t agree enough with what you say WN and Millie. Quite simple everyday things have provided us with some good moments this year, things that in other times we would very much take for granted. First post lockdown takeaway fish and chips, discovering all sorts of nice local walks, baking lots of homemade bread, learning how to make houmous, planning a home party for Mum’s birthday, watching all the different wildlife in our garden and home area, lots of DIY tasks, etc.....
Really enjoyed our first few days away though, thankfully everything went really well, looking forward to our next carefully planned break now.😁

What a lovely start to the day clear blue sky ,although one needs to keep out of the cold wind ,
Washing done and now out on whirly
Its is going to be busy here 182 arrivals tomorrow
We are still on big ICE generators to keep most of the park with power

Is that different than paying at the pump? I tend always to use supermarket fuel stations and tend now (certainly since COVID) to use the pay at pump option as its quicker than having to queue in the shop.

Just rang the owners of the cottage in Birchover we're heading for on Saturday. Arrival time is nominally 4pm so I just wanted to ask if it would be ok to park up and take the dogs for a walk while we wait (think it would be more secure with a loaded car than parking in the village.) Very pleasant conversation with the owner who checked and said "oh, hang on, there's nobody in the day before so it'll be cleaned and ready for you at 2pm". Result!

Am kicking myself big-time! We have had two weeks away on this lovely CS and haven't seen a drop of rain all that time. We are going back home tomorrow and therefore today is the day to take down the awning. Yesterday, the forecast for today looked dry although, a couple of times yesterday, I did wonder whether or not tot take the awning down then.
Guess what - the rain started in the night and we're getting traditional April showers - every few minutes!! Sky's full of very black clouds

Looks as if I've got the delight of having to try and dry this very heavy and big Kampa awning at home

Got the T-shirt RandR.😢
Had the odd drop of rain ourselves but nothing to write home about. Went to Kedleston Hall. Bit disappointing. Nice walk around the woodland with Bluebells everywhere but not a great deal else to do with an aged MiL to entertain.
Very, very disappointed, as usual, with NT food. I'm used to it so take sandwiches but I could have had a Brownie (pre wrapped) or a Brownie or a Brownie! Mrs WN can't stand white pappy bread so had to make do with a slice of fruit loaf for lunch. MiL rather obstinately tried the sandwich and threw it away. What a difference to the home made stuff we had at Cromford Mill yesterday. And NT know how to overcharge.
Anyway we went to Bakewell as the ladies wanted some retail therapy. Nice to see the town doing ok. Not overpacked either. Ladies happy and sunshine as well.
Off home tomorrow.
Hope you have a good time Moulesy.

Margaret and I have not long had our second Oxford Astra Zeneca vaccinations. Now waiting to see if we get any after effects!!! Funnily enough we met the same two near neighbours that we met at our first vaccinations back in January. How things have changed since then, just hope it's not a false dawn.

Fingers crossed that you don’t get any reaction David. Impossible to second guess as everyone is different. Agree about the false dawn, someone says one thing and then another opinion is expressed which knocks you back again. Don’t know what to think at times!!! I’d like to be optimistic.

Had our jabs on Monday David, we both feel better than the first time just a bit under par.
WN I don't think NT catering is running at full power after the Covid restrictions, our local ones aren't offering much at all. Down in Cornwall we saw one place with nothing open for food or drinks. Probably start to improve if the season gets under way and they get more staff back on board?
We went to a garden centre today, but it was too busy and unpleasant wearing a mask outside and in. Got a few things we needed like grass seed and then glad to leave. A pity as we usually like mooching around these places.
OH had to make a trip to daughter's home where her partner is struggling to renovate their old bathroom, it's downstairs in what would have been an outside loo and wash house. Damp walls to sort out etc.
Then tonight a panic call from neighbours with partial electric failure..OH directed them to their fuse box....

And now it's wall to wall snooker again

Today we got a shiny new Sky dish and Sky Q box. It was a quick efficient job by engineer (well masked up etc), but it took a long time last night to untangle and dust the wires etc behind the television.
So now we have a blank page - all the old films (mainly weepy or rom-coms) I had recorded and saved, are gone. Time to find new favourites!

Brue, even at full power I find NT catering to be deeply disappointing but at least they are consistent and I know not to expect to find anything to eat for myself but the 2 ladies are cosmopolitan in taste but even found the coffee to be abysmal today. Maybe it was just a bad day.
Off home tomorrow and it seems to have ticked the refresh box, especially for my Mother-in-Law, who had 4 booked holidays cancelled last year. Sure, in the grand scheme of things they were just an inconvenience but a change of scenery will work wonders for her.

So pleased you have had a good few days away WN and also good to hear that your MIL is feeling refreshed after a change of scenery. It must have been very dispiriting for her to have had 4 holidays cancelled last year. Hopefully these last few days will have lifted her spirits.

Goldie,
Just goes to remind us all that we used to have oodles of VHS & DVDs with our favourites on, before we got bitten by the 'technology bug' so we will all be in the same boat if we get carried away.
{ N.B. Note to self :-- Check the supplies available in charity shops and market traders stalls !! }

We aren’t fans of NT catering either. Haven’t got the specific needs some have, but just not being meat eaters cuts down the variety of what’s on offer for us usually, and to be honest, my Yorkshire genes baulk at paying something like £20 for a couple of coffees and two pieces of cake. We have found catering for ourselves in the MH much nicer, and it isn’t a chore at all to be honest. We have a lot of lunchtime favourites we do when out and about in the day, soup, gourmet cheese on toast, beans on toast, cheese platters, all sorts of salads, burger buns, etc..... We often cook a full meal as well when off pitch, just sit and dine watching the sun set, or admiring the views, wildlife spotting. One of the best things about a very useable go anywhere sized touring van.
Glad to hear you have had a good time. We are counting slowly down to enjoying our cottage booked in Borders, an area we love. With luck, we might even get to have a meal out somewhere if it’s warm and dry enough for Mum😁1 -
P.S. Forgot to thank you Goldie ~~ you have reminded me that I can get some quality DVDs of Steam Traction Engine Rallies if I bother to turn this seat round 180* -- All the relevant Heritage Books are sitting there with Adverts for 'em

Last night here, then off tomorrow to Slatebarns for the weekend.
Its been lovely and quiet here, had the place to ourselves for the first 2 days then another couple arrived yesterday and 2 more today, place full for the weekend. Empty again come Monday the owner said.
We've enjoyed here, weather could have been better, typical April showers but managed to get out everyday and not got wet once. Disappointed that we didn't get clear skies as its a dark sky site. We saw the super moon on Monday night very close and bright but no stars on other nights.
Think Slatebarns will be busy but looking forward to visiting it again not been in years, hope its going to be dry and we can get out on the bikes.
Glad to hear you had a good break WN, I'm sure MIL enjoyed it after last year's disappointments.

TG enjoy Slatebarns- Roslyn Chapel lovely if open!
Son got back to his daycentre today and looking forward to going back tomorrow! This was the first day of opening under a limited basis. My OH and I didn't know what to do with ourselves!
My OH had her hair appointment the first since November!
Tomorrow sees them get their second Jab on the same basis as the first ie arm out the window as they are both not overly mobile! Here's hoping that it isn't hailing as it was first time around.

So pleseed to hear that your son is back to his daycentre robsail. Good news about haircuts and jabs as well. 👍

Arrived at Slatebarns, journey all ok apart from roadworks in Penicuik. Lively sunshine just now.
What a cracking little CL this is, all pitches HS, very neat and tidy with grass around each pitch and a nice central grassed area.
Think we are doing IKEA this afternoon, OH has the need for meatballs😂😂 I need a couple of plates for the vans I broke one the other night.
