What are you all up to

Haven't been on for a few days. Giving you all a break from me.

There does seem to be a large discrepancy in how and who is getting vaccine injections depending on where you live. Then we have to take into account it's the Welsh Govt deciding here. Mutterings around us that South Wales getting more priority, you know the way resentments fester. Looking at population percentages there doesn't seem much in it to be honest. Good news for Mr.H and Mrs Nellie but bad for Ttda's mum. MiL waiting to hear about her jab.
Spent the last few days keeping out of trouble, walking, sorting out end of year things, reading etc.
We do have 2 leakages today though. A radiator leak in MiLs bedroom and the birdbath has sprung a leak. Must be a hairline crack somewhere as it's solid concrete. We have Homecare for the rad so a fitter will be calling on Wednesday. Bought her some Fishermans Friends to keep her warm in the meantime.

Trying to sort out our energy supply. We got an email a month ago saying your supplier had gone bust and Ofgem had appointed Scottish Power. Had an email straight away from them asking for bank details but nothing since. Even today when I spoke to them they couldn't trace me at first, which starting alarm bells ringing but they eventually agreed that they had me but I remain unprocessed. Never had that feeling before. Bit weird. Supposed to be something on its way this week.

Good to hear millie's news that Mr H will be getting his second dose, not such good news for TtDA that your mum won't. I do think that change of arrangements for, some, it now seems, of the most elderly and vulnerable is shameful. (And that's not to say that going forward the theory of extending the interval so that more folk can get more protection more quickly isn't entirely sensible.)
Sorry to read your news, Nellie. I said on an earlier thread that it seems the closer we get to a solution via vaccination the more of us seems to be directly affected by this awful disease.
I read that Boris is to address the nation at 8pm tonight - no prizes for predicting what he's going to say, but why oh why, yet again has he left it so late - looks like all he said yesterday and earlier today about waiting to see the effects of the harsher tier system was just so much hogwash. About time he and our esteemed Health Secretary got a grip on the situation and put the nation's safety ahead of personal popularity!

Had a nice cool morning walk, not !!, ambling round a few streets whilst Dukky had it's M O T this morning and all OK
-->
, but my tame mechanic has spotted something that he insists is fixed, so back in it goes very first thing on Friday, always assuming He and I are not locked away six or seven miles apart. He did not do a service 'cos dukkys are not time limited so much as they are mileage ruled and mine, poor thing, has only done TWO THOUSAND miles this year. And that is why I get so short tempered, seeing the old girl just outside my front window and me sitting here jangling the keys
so If I should snap or snarl a time or two, well you now know why and how to avoid it . Now I'm going to go thro a half dozen, or even six, Sales Mags, so please be nice to everybody else

!! Back before bed

Well, most likely there goes any hope of the "baby brother room" being finished before he arrives, we are all locked up till at least the end of the month.
Only essential travel permitted, will be put into law apparently. This gives us a problem as we are expecting a delivery of tiles on the 6th, but they are coming to DD's house as she has level access and space in her garage. This was all arranged well before Christmas.
The idea was for us to go down to her garage, open all the boxes to check for any damage, something we have to do within a limited time, then load them all in the car to bring home. This is essential for us to do as far as we are concerned, but may not be classed as essential under the new rules, who knows!
Nurseries are to stay closed meantime, other than for children of essential workers, but providing informal care is still permitted so people can work from home.
DD just rang to ask if we had heard the FM, and to say that they were waiting for clarification as to whether Callum, as his dad is an essential worker, would still be able to go to nursery, and that it was not clear to her whether we could continue with providing informal childcare.
In the earlier lockdown when schools were closed, both parents had to be essential workers, so they had to take turns to work.
SIL has apparently been told he has to be IN school tomorrow, even though there will be no pupils, but that may change. And DD says we should not come to their house meantime as they will manage if SIL is at home.
She does however want us to come and deal with the tiles as she cannot do it. No need for us to have any contact with them, or go in the house as the tiles will be in the garage. She will open the door for us, remotely.
So as long as we do not get arrested we should be OK!
Our shower tray delivery has been delayed until the 12th, did think it was a bit odd they proposed to make a delivery on the first working day of the year.

So sorry to hear your Mum's 2nd appt has been cancelled tda. Each area seems to be doing things differently. This is rapidly becoming a shambles. I do feel that it is probably sensible to increase the time between doses for future appts so more people can get the vaccine quicker but I do think that it would be far simpler to let the appts that have already been made to go ahead. Having worked in admin for the NHS I cant help thinking that having to contact everyone to let them know whether their appts are going ahead or not must be a nightmare to administer. Are they then going to rearrangw all the cancelled appts into 1st appts for others waiting for the vaccine??

Moulesy, I fail to understand why Boris with his dithering and late decisions, always appears to be reacting to Nicola Sturgeon and Keir Starmer. Just for once, I would like to see him to lead the Country like a lion rather than follow like a lamb.

Well that's us now in lockdown again, can't say I'm surprised she always jumps just before Boris.
Life will be no different for us, as the only difference I can see is the schools will not be going back until the start of Feb just in time for half term

Heard today they have started the Oxford vaccine roll out in our health trust area. A man in Dundee aged 82 first to get it.
Hope they hurry up in our village we have quite a few in their 90s none of them have heard anything getting their first jag let alone their second one. Our neighbour is nearly 96 and the one across from us 95 both live on their own, one blind the other deaf, life has been so awful for them this year not getting visits.
Looking very much like we won't get to our timeshare in Lanzarote in March, just hope Jet2 cancel in time for us to try and move the weeks until the end of the year, they have been bad at leaving it until 48 hrs before flight.
Chances of getting to Spain in April don't look any better either. It will be a toss up between if they let us in or if we are still waiting for vaccine.
Spare bedroom decorating going well
should be able to start on ceiling painting tomorrow.OH went out this morning putting down salt and sand, the pavements haven't been treated neither has the roads. Bus got stuck coming up our hill roads pure ice, few folk came to the buses rescue with salt and sand from the containers at side of road.
No sun today, skies grey and still below freezing.

Oh was advised by our GP in Sept that he was refering her to the fall clinic at our local Hospital it could take about a month? she got a letter two weeks later advising if not heard by end of October to ring the number on the letter ,Beginning of November we called the number to be advised no appointments being made at this time? first monday in Dec appointment letter arrived for 16th April this year on the Friday another letter arrived with the same date and times? last week a letter arrived cancelling the appointment
the next day another letter arrived with a new appointment for the same time but for the 30th April
We will be booking some sites for after May Day BH with options for all of them

we may also have had our vacine before then, but probably not a date for the second dose

I feel very sorry for our GP practice. They are very good, have provided lots of information, help, advice and support. They were as excited as we were about the vaccine roll out on that first day I took Mum. Actually thanked us for getting organised and showing up. It must be a nightmare for them trying to reach everyone over this delay.
It’s those in my Mum’s age group, so you can bet the vast majority will be like us, will need a Carer to attend with, a driver/taxi to organise, support throughout the visit to vaccine centre. This was who I saw when I took Mum. Lots of re organising to be done. Most didn’t even know we had a Leisure Centre, let alone where it was😉
Never mind. It will get sorted. But the last ten months have been a shambles, week in week out. I can’t help thinking that other parts of the World watch on in disbelief at what is going on in England. Except of course, the USA......🤷♀️

A few mile away over the channel they seem to be, not in a good place when it comes to "controlling" anything to do with the pandemic, and that is with a far more proactive? police force than ours are allowed to be

Alsoonly just over 500 persons so far been given the vacine, compared to 200,000 in Germany in same time frame

JVB I read a report from a french correspondent in the paper the other day that less than 40% of the french population are prepared to have the vaccine
. Apparently as a nation they have always been vaccine averse.
TDA The same when OH went for his covid vaccine. So many elderly and seriously infirm people and so many arrangements that had to be made for transport - some by hospital transport and some by local ambulance as well as carers and relatives. What a nightmare having to cancel all of that and rearrange at a later date, especially when nobody knows at the moment when those appts will be. I can't help feeling that saying all those second doses should be cancelled and postponed was a knee-jerk reaction.

Well good luck with the supply hunt.
The Great British Gas Saga continues here, our gas service has been cancelled yet again and we've been offered some money back again...except we never saw it the first time round! Hope the repair person gets the leak sorted WN.I'm not looking forward to Boris tonight although I feel other politicians can make themselves look good by jumping the gun.

Sorry to hear about the vaccination cancellations, our area has announced this will happen here.

Is John Prescott still around?

I thought Nicola Sturgeon always gives her updates be it to the press or the Scottish Parliament around the same time of day? We don't even know whether BJ will actually turn up at 8.00pm!!!!! One wouldn't set ones watch by him

David
PS, he was on time tonight!!!

Sorry to read your news, Nellie. I said on an earlier thread that it seems the closer we get to a solution via vaccination the more of us seems to be directly affected by this awful disease.
Thanks all for your kind words. I don't believe that it was Covid related. After his cancer OP and radio/chemotherapy he would not take things at a very slow pace to give himself time to recover but "had to" get back to doing some work. A salutary lesson I think, with a profound outcome unfortunately.
Sorry to hear that your mum's second vacation has been postponed, Tda, but pleased for millie's OH. I've not received any word of when my first one might be, but might get OH to ask when she gets hers tomorrow. I had a Covid Swab test today, not the most comfortable of experiences, and now waiting for the result. They were very efficient, back home 10 mins after setting out.
Not so much sun today and a bit breezy, but temperature has been higher than of late and most of the ice on the pavements has gone completely.

Thanks Nellie. Hope things go well this week. MH will be Sorned again end of month. We ain’t going anywhere until late March or after I don’t think.

Once more unto the breach dear friends...or in our case muddy village footpaths.
I heard last night about New Yorkers going round and round Central Park during Covid so I suppose it could be worse. Sorry we've all got to go through this again.

So it would seem we are all back in the same boat for the foreseeable future. We aren’t too bothered we don’t tend to do much during January or Feb anyway. We are decorating anyway so hopefully that will be all finished in the next couple of weeks. Our next trip booked is for Yorkshire for 10 days around Easter time so we shall wait and see what position we are all in by then. Must admit to having stopped watching the news tonight think we will give it a miss for a few days as it is all doom and gloom at the moment

Yes here we go again ☹. Needs must. I.just hope people follow the rules. We shall have to make a list of 'jobs to be done' to keep us busy. 3 family birthdays this month - great grandson and 2 grandchildren and we wont be able to see any of them. That is the hardest thing.
1 -
Here we go again........
Looks like meeting our 'local' grandchild maybe much later than meeting our NZ ones 😢😢. As for seeing our children ??? I suspect NZ won't let us in even if OH can do the journey, and daughter not keen to walk into this mess!
.PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE will folks stick to the rules??

We are sorted. Back to a pooch walk only, then exercise at home, gardening, virtual cycling up in attic. Food deliveries sorted, DIY task list made. Lots of hobbies and crafts to get stuck into, SORN MH at end of month. OH will be roped in to trim my locks, I scalped him yesterday. He needs to shield as much as possible to keep safe, I will still help out with Mum as a Carer, do most of any actual in shop purchasing required.
Have to say, it’s real shocker looking at the case rates in various areas up and down country. Places that have been excellent in last few months are now showing concerning case rates, much larger than ours, and we have been in Tier 3 since October. Can see why a full lockdown is the only option.
Lets hope that anyone found wilfully disregarding guidance and rules are shown no mercy this time round. Regardless of who they are, or how important they think they might be.

Might just be a good time to start watching it from the beginning, if I can find it.!!

Been there, done that! Every episode on All4 Nellie, free. You just need to do a one time register and log in. Some great programmes on there. I whiled away half an hour watching first ever episode of Brookside a couple of weeks ago, the only soap I have ever watched. GBH is on there as well, with Michael Palin and Robert Lindsay, superb drama.👍
