Went to Waitrose this morning for our normal weekly shop and to pick up Margaret's 70th birthday cake. (Birthday on the 14th but main celebration this Saturday) Only problem was that the Quick Check system was down. We have used this since it was introduce many years ago. Everytime Margaret handed me something I reached for the scanner, which of course, was not there!!! Funny how you get into a habit of doing the same thing. When we got to the till I unloaded each bag in turn and placed the empty bag behind those items. The lad on the till was excellent and decided that as he scanned the contents of each bag he put the items back in the bag. This made loading the trolley much easier. When we use other supermarkets it just goes straight into the trolley.

Still too cool for shorts up here. I'm late getting mine on this year. What part of the country are you heading to in May?

We were awake before sunrise this morning. It was daylight at 05:45. Only a week left now until the clocks go forward. Lovely sunny morning this morning.

Yesterday, we left London at 16:30 and were back at the club site in Worthing by 19:00 so the journey home took two and a half hours.

We paid the £11.50 congestion charge through the tfl online website before arriving in London. You can pay it the next day but if you do, it costs £3 more.

This time my wife's dental appointment took less time so the car parking was £8 less than last time. So when we paid, the bill came to £20.

London really is a no-go area, isn't it?

Wow £20 for two and a quarter hours parking.☹️ I thought our local hospital was bad enough at £3.50 for 61 minutes. You can stay up to four hours though, before it goes up again.

A more cloudy day here on Madeira yesterday, but it was still warm and made it more comfortable for walking.

We did the Levada do Nord walk, which was very pleasant, skirting around a huge ravine. Must say though, there were some big drops to one side of the narrow path in places.

The walk finishes at the Cabo Girao viewing platform - a structure that lets you look down from the tallest cliffs in Europe, at 580 metres......from a platform with a glass floor!

The sun came out again later and in the evening we went for a meal at the Japanese restaurant in the hotel.

I don't think anything would entice me to visit London ever again, ever .... I reckon four times is enough in any lifetime, especially now, what with extortionate charges and prices, and cameras and fines etc no thank-you...

Much prefer anywhere that has more sheep than people wink

Opposite for us. Since finding how easy it was to tow into Abbey Wood, albeit Sunday to Sunday, and how good a site it was for accessing the capital, we are likely to visit more often.😃

Very cloudy and cool here. I am glad I washed both cars yesterday. I could not decide which of the two was hardest to do, the smaller Yaris but low to the ground, or larger XTrail with less bending. Anyway both are sparkling now, until the rain comes.😂

I am with Justice. I have been to London a number of times before the age of 25. I did not return until I was 43 and then only because there is a lot of interest and my youngest, who was then 14 deserved to see it. Spent a few days there. I have not returned in the last 21 years and have no intention to in the future.

I was just thinking of cities in England, Scotland and Wales. There are three that I have never visited - Sheffield, Ely and Nottingham.

Helenandtrevor how exciting hope it arrives on time, don't count the days too much they go very fast as it is.

David hope all goes well with Lizzie.

David Klyne our sainsbury checkout operator will repack each bag if the self scan not working. Shopping involves a lot of handling of the same items over and over again! In the trolley, onto the belt, into a bag, into the trolley, into the boot, onto the floor indoors and finally in the cupboards. Huge workout but much simpler to scan and pack as you go!

Not decided in today's entertainment washing on but might give ourselves a playday as we have been busy and the weekend seems that way too!

Ely is a lovely little City.  Beautiful (although expensive) Cathedral and not really like a city at all, just a small country town.

Likewise for us, why anyone would drive into London and pay extortionate fees is beyond me, probably a days wages at 'Dinner to go' or whatever its called. Park outside and take the tube.

They should make the trains significantly cheaper than driving. Luckily I only go to London occasionally for work so ultimately someone else pays for my ticket.

Bright & sunny but much cooler today, lovely walk with the dog, the ground has started to dry up a bit.

We can get to London easily by train,  but it's not somewhere I would visit unless I really had to. Visiting Manchester next week , but only to visit our son who lives there now.

Delighted to say sun is pushing through but wind cool. Too sunny to clean conservatory windows 😃. Yeah that job can be postponed for now.
