    GL

Noticed the Norwich and Bath perigrine webcams show both pairs have eggs.

Is the female at Norwich the one from Bath that took over last year?

Nice shots OP I love the bullfinch but rarely see them. The woods I played in as a kid were full of birds, but chopped down now to make way for a large office development 10plus years ago.

Great photos, OP. We occasionally get bullfinch on our garden feeders, but they never stay very long.

Yesterday down on Alkborough Flats I think I caught a fleeting glimpse of a Bittern flying into a reed  bed, and then heard a Water Rail, but didn't manage to spot it. There were Marsh Harriers performing and more Avocets than earlier in the week. Back at the site a Goldcrest flitted along the hedge line and there were Green and Gold Finches about as well. Today saw what I thought initially was a Hobby, but perhaps was a Peregrine, over Far Ings Nature Reserve.

Weatherproofing fencing panels today, enjoying the sunshine and what at times seemed like our very own Nature Reserve.

Had to stop and watch 3 Buzzards high up in the air, wheeling around and mewing. They were interrupted rather rudely when a Goshawk flew past them and 2 Ravens cronked their way merrily past, with the male showing off by diving and rolling in flight.

The songbirds were a treat with the loudest being the Nuthatch and I saw our Chiffchaff as he fed in the trees at the bottom of the garden. 2 GSW's were competing, one making a lower drumming noise than the other. I turned around quickly, just in time to see 2 Siskins pinch the last of the sunflower seeds. The Song Thrush and Blackbird haven't stopped.

I think I might have to find some more panels to do tomorrow.

Saw my first Chiffchaff of the year this morning walking through the wood close to our site. Plenty of Buzzareds circling over the site throughout the day. Then, walking round Covenham Reservoir, as well as Widgeon, Golden Eyes, Tuffed Duck, Shelduck, a Crested Grebe and a few Redshanks, we were shown a Black-throated Grebe, a first for me.laughing

A Scaup had been recorded there yesterday but I couldn't spot it.frown

Whilst out Geocaching yesterday on the Cambridge/ Bedfordshire border we came across a Muntjac deer having a good old lick of something in the middle of the footpath. We were within 20ft of it and stood watching for a couple of minutes before it became aware of our presence. It ran off but just hid in the undergrowth nearby. It watched us walk by and I suppose it went back to whatever it was that it was licking. We often see deer but that was the closest we have ever been.

By the time the cloud cleared today it was still somewhat misty, but the Avon Gorge Peregrines did give a nice fly past. The Male flew in with what appeared to be a wader of some species which he stored close to the nest, which is virtually out of sight this year unless the best part of a mile away. Light was poor but pics not to bad.

Viewpoint is very close to the Baltic Warf site.

Our little owls are back, just down the lane from our village. They nest in the same spot every year, with varying success. Good luck to them this year.

    Thanks to you and Bakers.

Sadly I left a little to early yesterday, Grumbling Stomach, not long after I left the gorge, an Osprey flew over and got chased off by a crow. My fellow birder was more than happy to let me know what I missed.

Not to worry, always next time.

Cut the grass yesterday for the first time this year and today half a dozen Goldfinch tried it out for size. Nice bonus

Move site today to Old Brampton near Chesterfield. Our pitch is a bit far from the semi-perm feeding station, but did see a Male GSW, and some Long Tailed Tits as well as the usual suspects. Went for a walk down round the upper Linacre Res and saw a few Manderin Ducks and a Great Crested Grebe.

Love you photos of the Pergrines, BM, shame you missed the Osprey.

Thank You. Shame , but never mind, we are hoping to visit the Red Kite Touring park again this year, which is only about 7 miles from an Osprey nest that is in plain sight. Three chicks last year meant 5 birds in flight, so lots to see. Hoping for better shots this year.

Snap BM, we will be staying there at the mid/end of May.  Great area for Ospreys and of course other wildlife.  I also go to the estuary to the Dyfi Ospreys centre, great viewing area.

Delighted to find frogs spawn on our garden pond. Had given up of hope any this year. Also 4 frogs and 3 great crested newts that's an extra 1 from last year. Robin appears to be checking out nest site, same ivy hedge as last year. I'm sure we have at least one nest in our conifer with young in I expect it will be the sparrows. Wonderful birdsong and sun. Shame about the building work 3 doors down 😉.

Good news Oneputt, great to think they're back. I have been looking out for ours to arrive. I thought I might see one or two in Cornwall a few days ago but didn't spot any.

Redpoll on our garden niger feeder today. We've had them before, always with the goldfinches and siskins, but never a common bird for us.

Also had brilliant views of a stoat locally, we get plenty of weasels, they love our drystone walls, but stoats are quite rare. Breeding birds beware  .

I am mystified as to why no bird has ever been near our niger feeder. I change the seed regularly but nothing. even though we have goldfinch in the garden, they show no interest in the seed.

    Any suggestions why?

Are you visiting Red Kite for the purpose of viewing the Osprey, and is the end of May the best time?

We visited in July last year and were lucky that the sitting male had been chased off by a more dominant male so the new brood was later than usual.

We were wondering if June would be more in line with juvenile feeding and practice flights or end of May.

BM -  Yes going primarily for Ospreys, was around mid May last year and plenty of  action although young on the Estuary hadnt Fledge.  Fantastic views of fishing at reservoir and incoming with fish from the estuary.  unfortunately we cant go any later.
