We're in France, and similar to Deleted User User's post above, when I woke up early I went for a morning swim, and am now waiting for OH to wake up before we have breakfast. It's a beautiful clear blue sky day here, and it's likely we'll take the canoe out on the river, come back for lunch, have a read/sleep in the shade, a swim in the pool, perhaps use the on-site sauna, and then relax with a meal and a few glasses of wine before going to bed.
Tomorrow we're going to the market in Uzes to stock up on local produce. Then more swimming in the pool or the river.
Yesterday we drove along the Gorges de l'Ardeche and had a meal looking out over the river, across to Aigueze at the bottom of the gorge, and then stopped for a coffee in Vallon Pont d'Arc.

Happy landing B2, I think we have some more warm weather coming our way in the south so you'll be able to enjoy a good early September. Enjoy your hols everyone else, I've managed to book a short van break soon so might even get a swim from one of our beaches!

Ah that reminds me, ABM, i've got one of those somewhere - trouble is there's nothing but repeats on the screen. You'll soon be back to normal - watching proper telly, again with some repeats but somehow more watchable
WHAT ?? Back to normal indeed, never been normal in my life & I ain't starting now, thank you very much !!
In fact I'm sitting at the keys now with a thick lined shirt & hat on, 'cos I've just been for my annual, pre-Yuletide haircut & beard trim so soon it'll be time for the seasonal bath I suppose

Bought the Gin yesterday, so making some Damson Gin, just hope I can leave it long enough with drinking it!
Safe trip home Bakers2, your NZ trip seems to have flown by, hope your garden isn't too overgrown.
Have a great weekend folks.

I leave my sloe and damsons in the Gin for about 4 months - longer if I want to have a hint of the taste of the kernels.
Then several months before drinking. It's not that I have a lot of self control - but I have a lot of bottles from various years.
I like home made better than commercially produced as I can make it as sharp as I like!

Love Stamford Market, so much choice, our town market is declining and hardly any stalls now.

I would like to go back to the Stamford area, last time we couldn't park up anywhere so missed seeing the town.
Have you tried parking down by the river below the road to Burleigh, brue? We usually manage to get a paking spot there.

Just been playing with a neigbours e- bike.
They are supposed to be restricted to 15mph but if you peddle hard they can get up to ---
....yes, the bikes can obviously 'go' as fast as you can make them....its just that the assistance from the motor has to cut out at 25kph....
my bike has a little LCD display on the handlebars which has a 'diagnostic' USB port (can report back as part of the service process)...
..anyway, this socket also provides a power source, so i wondered about its uses....a bit of googling revealed that some folk are running satnavs....
well, i have a small back-up Tomtom One, found a handlebar mount on ebay (£3) and a cable to join the LCD display to the Tomtom (£1) and rigged it up yesterday, works a treat....
set up your cycling route, plug it in and away you go.....no faffing with paper maps, constantly checking them etc...

We don't often take the car to Stamford these days as we can get a bus which takes about 40 minutes (and free!) and saves the hassle of parking. so win win. If we do take the car we park in the cattle market car park. Turn down by the side of The George and keep going to the bottom. Cerainly wouldn't have taken the car yesterday as it was Burghley Horse Trials and a lot of people park in the town and walk to Burghley to save money.

It's quite helpful to get some local knowledge on this Millie, we stayed at Top Lodge, did all the nice walks but missed seeing the town. I'm not sure if there is a bus that goes past the CC site. We ventured out with the M/H and the town proved to be just
a bit too busy.0 -

I really like the town, there are some great independent shops and an excellent bakery.

Finally found some wellies today after visiting lots of shops, and garden centres, decided that £90 was a bit much to spend as I need another pair of walking boots too. Ended up buying some cheaper ordinary ones, children's size 4 so no Vat, it pays sometimes
having small feet!0 -

1 ) Young Brian's tootsies are a gentle size 11 { Adult }
Does that mean I'll have to pay nearly three lots of V A T ??
2 ) Do hope Triky has a "Lo - Cost" time at Southdown m/homes i.e. no trading in / up grading & the jobs are
all solved with little or no cost .Brian A B M

This evening I'm getting the little Hacking/shredding/grinding machine out to crush about half a stone of peanuts down to 'feeder friendly' size in order to break the birds taste buds in ready for the winter season. But first I'll have to order some more {!!} no-mess bird food. That seems to be a general name for dearer food, and most definitely NOT a statement of it's abilities !
