@milliehull I’m afraid ours is more than likely to be asleep in his chariot, but he is 15, and on gabapentin, enough to knock an elephant off its feet🤣 He usually wakes up if anyone wants to say hello. I think we are definitely going to try and get down next week, whizzdown A1 to Peterborough, a look around Cathedral/exhibition, and then try and fit in Easton Walled Garden for a couple of hours on way back up. Going to do a bit of reading about the knitting before we head down.

Managed a couple of sessions on garden today, either side of visiting Mum. Have got some lovely birthday presents, and some vouchers/cash to to spend. OH has been browsing Matthewson’s (Bangers and Cash) catalogue. Apparently, we need a Porsche Boxster next. And possibly a longer drive…………..🤣

Any chance it works it works on Nonagenarians? MiL has more energy than she needs at present!🤣

Boiler installed and seems to be working fine. Fingers Crossed. When you retire the idea is to have more free time so why is our calendar full of appointments and not just for health? And we don't have grandchildren so I don't know how those that do, manage.🤷‍♂️

It's been a long while since we visited there, grand photos, @DSB

Thanks for the information @milliehull we might be close enough to call in and view the display.

Happy birthday @Takethedogalong hope you had/have a lovely day.

Good to read that your boiler guys were early, rather than late, @Wherenext have they completed the work?

Been up to Byland Abbey today. It's worth a visit.... it's just a pity that the old pub across the road, taken over by English Heritage as a 'cafe' was not open today when we visited. I reckon it's probably a busy place in the summer.... The tiles were still covered over from the winter protection - would love to see them, perhaps in the summer. As the 'cafe' was closed, instead, we went on into Helmsley to the cafe at the walled garden....

We moved on down to near Louth today, with an easy drive in fine weather. After being the only unit on our previous CL we now have 3 others here. After lunchvwechad a walk along to the village Church that being The Church of All Saints, which has a 15th C tower but the church was rebuilt in 1843. It has a very impressive ceiling and organ in the nave, with words from the Tae Deum.

    And especially for @Wherenext

@Takethedogalong If you are thinking of coming to The Yarn exhibition can I suggest that you get a timed ticket from the Peterborough Cathedral website as it will hopefully make sure that you dont have to queue.

What great photos @nelliethehooker. That'a a really lovely church, especially the ceiling.

@DSB we love visiting Helmsley walled garden, we have at least two or three visits a year. The cafe looked quiet it can be really busy on fine days. OH said we have been to Byland Abbey but I have no recollection of seeing it, another day out when we get a chance. You mentioned traffic busy in Harrogate, it is always a bit of a nightmare for traffic, we have found a few detours these days but generally we avoid Harrogate at all costs!!!

@nelliethehooker the church looks beautiful, an unusual roof decoration.

I got to see the consultant on Monday about my hip. I’m glad to say he (and I) thought an operation at present would not be necessary. The X-ray shows that I have no cartilage in the hip joint so it’s bone on bone but it doesn’t always hurt badly unless I strain it or overdo things. He felt the movement in the joint and there isn’t much, it’s quite stiff. Then I got the ‘can you do this and that’ questions and on the whole I can, usually, although not always! I asked him why I was in so much pain in December and January, when I was referred, and he said osteoarthritis will have flare ups and that was the reason I was struggling then, and it has settled down now although I will probably get other episodes. He has now got a record of the problem and up to date X-rays so he advised I contact again when I get to a point where I can no longer cope.

@heddlo It does seem that the offer of hip and knee replacements are based on how much pain you are in. Margaret is in severe pain whenever she stands up and has been for at least 6 months. Before my operation I don't recall being is as much pain but I was lop sided! From what you say you seem a little reluctant to have the operation? All I can say, for me, it was a game changer, the pain immediately went post op and the even bigger difference was I was back on an even keel! Has there been a suggestion that you could have a Cortizone injection as that could help if you get a flare up.

Thank you for this, very helpful. It sounds like it’s a huge draw if timed tickets are on offer. Could I ask another favour? We have never driven into Peterborough before, always cycled in so any help with car parking (not for MH) would be great. I will take a look on Google but local knowledge would be even better.👍

@DSB the covers on the tiles won’t come off for a while😁 It could be under a foot of snow between now and Easter! Another lovely setting though, it’s so beautiful around there. Helmsley Walled Garden is superb in Summer. I hope you are getting all the sunshine we are. If you want something a bit different, a bit of a walk, and great for pooch, then take a look at Cawthorne Roman Camp. It’s up in the Cropton Forest area, one of Britain’s lesser know Roman Forts, but interesting, with great views. Not one for a wet day though, but the paths should be ok for walking. No cafe up there, but there’s a nice one at Beadlam Grange Farmshop, which is on the main road between Helmsley and Pickering.

In the queue for GP reception. Just seen my first brimstone of the year 🤗.

Another lovely day here. A few fair weather clouds and not quite such a stunning sunrise. Forecast is for it to turn by Monday. So making the most of it. Going to sort flowerpots very soon - not before time!

The pleasure of a mammogram this afternoon. 2nd since we arrived here, almost 3 years ago. Very impressed. Then pick up dog worm and flea treatments from the vet. Early meal as it's the WI AGM tonight. Fingers crossed 🤞 it'll live to fight another year. They're going down like 9 pins around here 😪.

Thanks @milliehull I'll look at timed tickets and will watch where you suggest for parking. My heel is really giving me issues, so I'm looking not to walk too far. I have a couple of carparks, one of the 3 Queensgate multistory and another by the back of the town hall - if there's space. I would have gone Tuesday whilst I was collecting my reading glasses, but foot didn't want the additional steps 😪.

I'm trying to reast it for now as going with DIL and grandson's to support son at the Cambridge half marathon on Sunday. I did manage to drive the dog for an off lead walk today.

Great photos, folks. Adding places to my visit list.

Enjoy all. Oh I'm number 1 in the queue

I’m not reluctant I would just rather wait until I feel I really need it. I had my left hip replaced 3 years ago David and, as you say, it was game changer! That hip was causing me many problems and I was almost constantly in pain. The new hip is amazing and I am so glad I had it done. My right hip is different in as much as it’s not as painful, just makes life a bit difficult at times. I have no pain, sitting or lying and a couple of paracetamols usually help for a few difficult days, I can’t take anti-inflammatory medication due to a stomach issue. I do hope Margaret will soon get hers done as the relief from constant pain is extremely stressful and tiring.

@heddlo You sound a bit like me with my knee. I hear both positive and negative stories from people having knee replacements. I also read a lot about exercise overcoming many issues caused by a knee which I am trying to follow. I suspect my attitude towards hips is due to the time it takes here in MK to get an operation. Despite being referred in August to the NHS for her hip Margaret has still not got an NHS appointment just to see a consultant, this was the main reason we decided to go the private route. At least you have the advantage that you are on the consultants "list" so once you decide it hopefully shouldn't be too long before an operation can be arranged. With Margaret we are just waiting for letters between the Cardiologist and the Orthopedic Surgeon and hopefully a date will follow soon.

Had a call from the dealers to say our blinds are ready and did we want to brings the van in or wait for the axle. My response was do the whole thing together. I’m assuming by the conversation that the insurance claim has been approved although I haven’t had confirmation from the insurers.
Tomorrow we will start to remove everything from the van, what joy!

@heddlo I'm pleased for you that an operation isn't deemed appropriate at the moment. And from what you say you'll be able to contact the consultant directly if things do deteriorate, rather than having to be re-referred via the GP.

TBH I was somewhat surprised I was offered a hip replacement as I can still walk a decent distance, although if I do, I pay for it afterwards. But I have noticed over the last 6 months getting up from a chair, getting out of the car and turning over in bed is quite painful more often than not. Anyway, it's not long now, 4 weeks, but not thinking about it too much, YET!!

@Wherenext having met both ladies in question, I can just imagine the conversation🤣🤣🤣 Perfectly normal I would say, but the kind of moments that have you laughing out loud. Glad you managed a good few days away.

Enjoying all the photos from others. @heddlo we like a nice old tomb, I try and translate the Latin if I can. Looks very interesting.

Hospital visiting for us yesterday. OH said it felt very strange to him, as he’s usually the one being visited🤣 One SIL is back home, hopefully for good this time🤞Other SIL is fine in herself but she’s not standing or walking yet, apparently had two breaks. Doing ok though. Good news on another cousin as well, she’s had a massive cyst removed, and that’s gone well. She’s facing an hysterectomy next though🙁

Hope others not too well are doing ok.

Sun has just come out here, after a slow start. I think we have had a bit of rain overnight, which is good as it was very dry here. Mum duties for me later today, but got weekend off, so going to spring clean inside of MH, then hopefully get her out for a bit of a run Sunday. Thinking of having interior re upholstered🤔

Arrived at @Skybarn Farm CL yesterday - in glorious sunshine - good to meet up with Richard & Nicola again. However, it seemed to take forever to get the van set up and awning erected - aching back and hips getting in the way! Was quite pleased when we were properly settled in.😋

Had a bit of a problem, this morning, though. I always set lights and the pond pump to come on at set times whilst we are away - using 'smart' sockets and the internet. Tested everything before we left and all was fine. When we arrived here, though, most of them, including the pond pump were showing as being 'off-line" - and therefore not working. Never had a problem before but I suspect it might have something to do with losing power in the house for a short while a couple of days before we came away.

Not too bothered about those lights that weren't working - but I was concerned that the pump wouldn't be oxygenating the water for a week and I could loose the fish. So…….round trip of 150 miles completed this morning to go home and sort it all out. The very strange thing was that when I got into the house, the offending items suddenly came back 'on-line' but as soon as my phone is out of range of the home Wifi, they go off-line again?????? Anyway, pump is now on 24/7 to avoid any problems with that. Isn't technology wonderful?????

I don't suppose anyone's got any bright ideas as to why?

Appointment with my surgeon today. She is the most lovely person, so kind, obviously very clever, and just a nice caring person. No hug today though, as is normal, cos I’m still rather sore, but she said it’s a must again for next time. Everyone that I have seen in the NHS has been very kind and the nurses very caring. Surgeon and I ended up discussing her camper van. A two week wait now to find out if I will need chemotherapy and or radiotherapy.

@Takethedogalong Hope all goes well with the run in your motorhome always like the older style of Aurosleepers.

A busy day today as I have finished weeding the two Iris beds and looking good did not do them last year hence the hard work over the last two days, yesterday we took down a 3 metre high Juniper tree which was too close to the house and classed as a fire risk well it has gone and another skip trip done and a large bag of a Jasmine which has had a good prune so no flowers this year.

@DEBSC hope all your treatment goes well and take care, our friend who had cancer treatment last year and still on medication although the Consultant has reduced it too a lower dose as it was affecting her kidneys and very expensive at 4000.00 euros a month thankfully all free as it is Cancer, she is in Doncaster at present with her OH sorting a late Uncle's house out and the funeral is next week so all go at the moment for her.

Weather is dry and sunny and still warm but due to change from this Sunday with very strong winds and heavy rain hmm not Spring yet and we have friends on their way home after being in UK for the winter and will be getting home on Sunday so will not be a good trip back in the weather.

    Have a good weekend folks.

One of the sockets in our kitchen had a problem in that the on/off switch jammed on and that side of the socket was dead. Can't believe its nearly five years since we had the kitchen redone. They used bog standard cheap sockets so I decided if I was having a sparks in they might as well change them all the MK Logic Plus sockets which look much nicer. The company I used is called MK Wired, they also did the lighting in our bathroom when that was done a couple of years ago. I joked with them that they should changed their name to MK Wired for Sound in honour of the Cliff Richards song as the promotion video was filmed in MK Shopping Building😄

Best wishes @DEBSC. There has been huge advances in treatment over the last few decades for various cancers so he's hoping any treatment is effective.

You'll be pleased to hear the Mange-Tout Muncher found another one in bed with her last night. To be fair she was sitting on the bed peeling them the other day as the workmen were in changing the boiler so it's not like she's smuggling them in for a midnight treat.

We've had an assessor in from a Charity based care company as we're looking for some cover for a short hour in the morning and evening in order for us to take slightly longer breaks. This was at MiLs suggestion. I think she feels guilty even though we've told her there's nothing to feel guilty about. Nevertheless she mentions it often so we decided to do something. She was impressed with the way things went and they were recommended to us by a good friend in the village. We'll give it a trial go soon and see how she copes.

It was forecast rain today but it's been dry for the most part.

@Takethedogalong regarding parking for Peterborough Cathedral the Car Haven is the nearest. I suggest you google Peterborough Car Parking and follow their directions to the Car Haven car park (my directional skills are not good!). Once you have parked your car exit the car park via the exit on foot (not the way you came in that is entrance only) turn immediately right as you exit and walk along the road that is at the back of the old town hall. At the end (it is not far) you will see St Peters Arcade on your left. Walk through there and turn right, go past the Nat West bank and you will see the Norman arch entrance to the Cathedral on your right. Best of luck!.

    One more step forward @DEBSC

@milliehull many thanks for that. We will take a good look on Google Earth, I think I can recall the Town Hall, and would recognise the Cathedral gateway.

@Wherenext glad the assessment went well, that will be a huge help for you in getting away a bit longer.

I managed a couple of hours in garden late afternoon. Trying to do a bit each day. Mum looked lovely and cosy when I left, fast asleep in some lovely new bedding, but still hanging on to her birthday balloon. She’s enjoyed her cake as well….homemade😋

So glad your Mum had a good birthday @Takethedogalong and I hope you did also. Just a word of warning - car parking is not cheap in Peterborough!

We met some friends for a bar snack in The Bull Hotel in town for lunch today so had a good catch up. (We went in on the bus) A bit more cloud today but very mild. It looks like a good weekend weatherwise but I think we are in for shock next week!

Glad to hear that the carer assessment went well @Wherenext .
