Thank you, WN, I’m on the mend. I heard about the Iberian Lynx project last year whilst on a railway journey across Spain. Fascinating to hear about the Spanish conservationists and railways efforts to provide multiple wildlife corridors and tunnels for a variety of species, including Lynx to cross from one side of the tracks to the other.

An informative article but let’s hope this foolish and irresponsible act doesn’t set back that official translocation many of us hope for.Thankfully the pair are now safe and sound and can contribute in some way to raising that positive awareness needed for a proper reintroduction to be made in the very near future.

Sad but very true, it appears there may be at least one other pair at loose in the same area. Some are suggesting others elsewhere in the Highlands probably been there some time. We need a properly organised and managed reintroduction, not an illegal release.

More good news on the restoration front from Cumbria Wildlife Trust with the purchase of Skiddaw Forest in the northern Lake District.

A really informative article here which explains how and why reintroductions of apex predators restore the equilibrium in and across habitats in European countries and how the UK could also benefit from such projects. It’s about time we followed those leads.
Such projects could promote economically sensitive and sustainable Eco tourism in much needed areas here as they have across main land Europe.

Sadly one of the four dumped Lynx has subsequently died. This was a cruel and irresponsible act to realise ‘domesticated’ animals into a hostile environment without the skills to survive and specialists to support them.
Thankfully there are organisations who fully understand such reintroduction processes who are working with land owners, sympathetic farmers and locals in appropriate areas to provide a proper future reintroduction.

As also said you then give people like @Fisherman reason to object about proper well coordinated rewilding projects. I can actually understand his concerns but I really fail to understand what the illegal releasers reasons were.

I remember the article from a couple of years back about Two dots, a pine marten from the Dalby forest Project which went on walkabout to Spurn Point. I’ve heard recently of sightings in both Cropton and Dalby forests but don’t know if these involved the same individual. They appear to doing quite well across UK in translocation project. The Dalby project launched back in 2017 I think with sensible monitoring keeping an eye on the pollution. The animals today are pretty much left to get on with doing pine marten things. Good news, hopefully they will help keep grey squirrel numbers down.

I have just come across this video on the BBC website of Offers in the centre of Bath. It shows how much the river quality in certain places has improved recently.
It follows on from a similar video of then in a lake near the centre of Cheltenham.

Visitors to the Alkborough Flats area, there are otters down on the Flats, if you are lucky enough to spot them. We saw one a couple of years ago.

My home village, Alkborough, must get back soon. Its evolved from a wildfowlers/hunters heaven to a wildlife paradise in my lifetime.
