Worrying website payment bugs

Trying to pay a deposit on the website, I have encountered the following (rather worrying) bugs (Windows 11 and Edge browser):

  • 1) Amex requires a 4 digit verification code (all other cards require 3 digit codes).  The payment form will not allow a 4 digit code to be entered
  • 2) The payment form scrambles up the card expiry date you have entered if you move around the payment form rather than just tab through it
  • 3) If a problem occurs on the payment form you are bounced straight out with a 'lost contact' message and all trace of the transaction and the booking you tried to pay for appears to be lost

These problems don't appear to be related to Worldpay (and other sites that use Worldpay don't have this issue).

As worrying as the bugs themselves is the fact that these are present at all on a website that must have a high volume of financial transactions.  Is there no test function when this stuff is written ?

Would the problem with Amex be because CAMC doesn't accept that card?

Hmm, could be.  But there's nothing explicit on the payment page about it and if I enter my Amex number it accepts it - you'd expect that it would throw up a dialog to tell me it wasn't a valid card if that was the case.

Have you rung CAMC and asked the question, Brian?

The Club office has closed but Siri and Alexa are tireless and will tell you right now that Amex isn’t accepted.

I am not sure if it still applies but some retailers used not to accept Amex because of the high fees they charge.

Have you an alternative payment method?

The AMEX ban is still in place with some firms, so I assume you will have an alternative card for them.
