Second dose of French way of life.

Having had a very enjoyable three weeks in May we have come round to thinking that a second trip to France might be doable.

Question is, how easy would it be to find a campsite in the Normandy  D Day beach area at end of July?  We saw the new British Memorial on TV and couldn't work out how we missed it.

Would it be foolish just to turn up and expect to find a pitch?

    Seaside campsites will be busy and probably full with French family holidaymakers, but you can phone one or two when you are in the area.

    If you are willing to stay overnight inland and drive to the memorial from there you will have more possibilities, though they may not be your first choice campsites.

    But with  a motorhome you have the option of Aires as well as campsites - they are mostly without reservation so arrive early in the day of course.

    We saw the new British Memorial on TV and couldn't work out how we missed it.

    It’s not difficult to miss, at least not when we visited a couple of years ago, as it was not that well sign posted. There are quite a few MH parking places at the memorial, we drove from the municipal in Bayeux, which still seems to have availability at the end of July.

    These thirty six sites come up when searching for 'Campsites near the DDay Memorial'.  I'm sure you can find space on one of them.  But as said, in a motorhome you will find an Aire for the odd night or two if you don't mind not being on a site.  As a third option go far inland - a little town where a friend lives has a lovely municipal campsite which will almost certainly have space, and there is a great municipal (heated) swimming pool not far away as well as a couple of lovely waterfall walks.

    Many thanks for your replies....I think the Aires idea is a good one.

    I will sit down later today and have another look, once I have washed the grime off of the van from our Northumberland trip.

    We visited the memorial in early May after coming off the overnight ferry so arrived about 8am and very few folk about and good weather well worth seeing if you look at this website which should be useful britishnormandymemorial.org
