Hello advice need for European Travel

We are new to the club and we've just purchased our first motorhome. We did have a caravan for a number of years before that when the kids were young.
Just wanting some advice about travelling through Europe - we are travelling to Italy at the end of March and will be travelling through Switzerland, Austria and we are staying in Northern Italy. My concern is the CO2 emissons info? I've managed to get passes for France and Germany but I'm finding the countries above hard to know what to do? and how to get hold of any information on their websites recommended through the C&MH club. Also need advice on the toll tags what people think of them and are they worth getting.

Helen and Steve, For your visit to Italy, clean air restrictions only apply to large cities - just as they do in UK. Rather than try to find regulations for Italy as a whole you can search instead for rules for any individual city you plan to visit. They will all vary - again as they do in UK. But you are not going to drive a motorhome into central Milan orTurin, are you ?
The usefulness of motorway toll tags depends on the route you are taking., but as you can get to the Swiss border at Basel completely toll free on big roads if you go from Calais via Lille, Namur, Luxembourg and Nancy, and as you have no need of a tag for Germany, Switzerland and Austria , you might decide not to bother getting one just to use in Italy.

As ET has said, unless you’re planning to go into the centre of big cities in Italy you won’t need a low emissions cert.
Re motorway tags; We have ones for France and Italy and for us they’re indispensable. However, we go to Italy for 3 months at a time, often collecting children/grandchildren from airports on a regular basis so it’s convenient and cost effective to have one for Italy. If you’re trip is a one-off it’s debatable whether the annual standing charge for an Italian Telepass tag is worth it. The motorway toll stations are very well spaced in Italy and if you pass through the border south of the St Gottard Tunnel your first pay booth will not be until you reach the outskirts of Milan. Unfortunately the toll booths are not particularly user friendly for motorhomes so it’s your choice. We bought ours for Tolltickets who are very helpful.

We’re fans of toll tags because they save leaning out of a window when the width of our caravan increases the gap between the passenger window and card reader. They also facilitate smooth passage through toll booths - but there’s a cost for that convenience. As a % of holiday costs toll tags won’t break the bank. However, for a short trip from the ferry, you might chose to go without. For a trip to Italy, we’d not hesitate to subscribe.
