I noticed on the ESPN website that Christian Horner has said that the new Aston car looks like an old Red Bull design. Former Red Bull Technical Director Dan Fallows moved to Aston across from Red Bull last year so maybe a grain of truth?

I was alluding to the tie up between RB and Aston during the 2020 and 2021 seasons before the latter became a team. However I have no idea of its nature.

I think that was just a sponsorship deal. I would have thought Red Bull have their hands full, not only with support for AlphaTauri but also getting Red Bull Powertrains up and running?

If practice sessions are anything to go by, it seems that Mercedes are in for another lacklustre year.

Not much comment on the current season after five races? Is it the fact that one team seems to be totally dominating the series or is that most of the circuits are a bit boring?

I don’t think so David, after all Mercedes totally dominated for 7 Years and I didn’t hear many Brit fans complaining

Well that is the end of another F1 season. Whilst it has been dominated by Max Verstappen and Red Bull it has also thrown up some interesting changes compared to recent years. Ferrari have been much stronger in some races. Maclaren have, perhaps, been the dark horse. Mercedes are there but not quite. How long will Lewis Hamilton go on racing, he might look at Fernando Alonso and think I will give it a few more years?  Also good to see Williams making a big improvement compared to recent years. Only just over three months before it all starts again!

If you get a chance read the book How To Build A Car by Adrian Newey. He is the main reason for the success of this years Red Bull car, also a good read with some behind the scenes stories.

I've been looking at highlights of this season on youtube this weekend. Best rookie in a long time has to be Oscar Piastri, let's hope Lando gets his first win before he does. Best laugh has to be the Hungarian GP when Lando knocked over and broke Max's trophy (the look on his face!).

I think if Danny Ric hadn't broken his hand he would now be Max's partner. I think Checo will have his work cut out to keep his RB seat as surely his excuses book must be threadbare.

Max has the talent, hunger and now the maturity that Lewis had 6 or 8 years ago so it will be interesting to see next year if Merc can produce the car has Lewis still got that hunger?

Why does Ferrari always seem to be not quite there?

Always a mute point about second drivers at Red Bull. In some ways, despite all the publicity to the contrary he has done what was required of him. Number one rule, he did not challenge Max, he came second in the drivers championship, albeit a long way behind Max, the first time that has happened in Red Bull's history, he has won races. So in some ways he is the ideal second driver. I suppose what must be at the back of the minds of Team Principals is what if something happens to their main driver would the second driver win the championship? I think that is elephant in the room as far as Checo Perez is concerned and I suspect its the reason he always seems to be under threat. The natural replacement would be Danny Ric but whereas he came close to challenging Vettel a few years ago he hasn't added much to his CV since, perhaps through lack of opportunity?

I think its been quite a good year for Ferrari, they seem to be the challengers, especially in qualifying. I do wonder if we have to wait until 2026 before we see a real change as traditionally its when there are big changes to the cars and engines that another team emerge and become dominant.

Oscar has already beaten Lando by winning a sprint.  I don't believe Daniel has now got what it takes to replace Checo.  I know we had a dire patch this year but he did win 2 races and come second in the WDC so why would you change him.

Strange goings on at Red Bull with CH under investigation.

Now, at the moment nobody knows if CH is guilty or not, however In any other large organisation if such a senior person had been accused of a serious offence  they would be suspended on full pay until an investigation was complete. Also the name of the investigating KC would not be kept secret.

With CH not being suspended he is free to influence people during the investigation which can't be right, also not making the name of the investigating KC looks suspicious. Are they trying to hide something? I have no idea.

There is a power struggle going on in RBR and it wouldn’t surprise me if this wasn’t part of that.  Personally I think Marko, a contractor and not an employee, wants Horner out and he doesn’t care how he achieves that

But only by his team. A lot more pressure being added by other teams for what actually went on at the hearing. And now there has been a release of the alleged messages!!surprised

We seem to have started the season where we left off in 2023? OK only the first race but wondering if Ferrari have made the right decision on two counts?

I’ve always rated Carlos as a driver. I would like to see him go to Red Bull.  As to the race it looked like Max was cruising, in the first lap he was ahead by over a second so didn’t give anyone the chance of getting DRS. Max won by over 20 seconds so that might provide a clue for the rest of the season

The way things are going at the moment your wish might come true? Christian and Jos clearly are having difficulties, from what I see in the press, and I can see a situation where Christian remains head of Red Bull that Max might be tempted, or persuaded,  to go to Mercedes. That would open the door to Carlos and a potential new World Champion?

I could be dreaming but I seem to recall a year when the first ten races were won by ten different drivers, which is pretty rare but it was more exciting I would agree. It just seems that in the past 10 or so years the regulation changes seem to benefit one team which is a bit odd as they all get an opportunity to work within those changes. What I don't recall happening is that the same team has never benefitted  from two changes of regulation? On that basis it would be unusual for Red Bull dominate now and after 2026, especially with a new (to them) engine supplier?

The car might be good, courtesy to a large extent of Adrian Newey. However, there was an identical one 22 seconds behind, closely followed by the Ferrari. Max does seem to be able to wring more than others out of his vehicle.

    Hiya David.

I don’t pay much close attention to the regulation changes so can’t really comment. I would be much more enthused if races were more competitive. It can’t be good for the sport if each race just turns into a procession with the usual suspects taking the honours. No, I don’t know what the answer is.

I don’t doubt that MV is a class act, and I’m not at all knocking him, and I’m sure he likes to win, quite rightly. But surely, even he would like more competition? I usually follow the race for a few laps, but once he builds up a lead, I lose interest.

    Freddy

I think our interest has waned a bit over the years. When we went abroad I used to take a satellite dish so we could always watch the Grand Prix. We now record the Channel Four highlights mainly because we don't have Sky but we also prefer the commentators on Channel Four. Having said that if the race is in the middle of the night we won't bother with qualifying and just watch the highlights of the race. This season is only one race old so perhaps we should reserve judgement but if Max wins every race this year one has to ask what the other teams are doing to stop that happening.
