Surprising and a bit worrying in how many countries Lewis Hamilton got booed in or it that just how some of the world regard the UK ?

Heres a good article that discusses why the race director is clearly not up to the job.

I think the outcome of Sundays debacle is that MV will keep the title, (the FIA will never overrule themselves), Michael M will be replaced and the rules changed to become ambiguous.

For some, maybe he just doesn’t fit the stereotype of a racing driver in the mould of earlier champions?

Many countries it seems will be disparaging with their attitude towards any non white players in any sportwink

Yes, anybody who thinks we’re a more enlightened society than we once were need only attend an international football event in Eastern Europe to realise that’s only partially true.

Football has been closing out the racists but it’s taking some time. F1 is even slower they worry about revenue more that equality. Until the sponsors get annoyed & exert pressure it’ll be a Wade thru treacle. Disgusting as it is-it is life for anyone who is not white🤷🏻‍♂️☹️

Who knows what the outcome would have been, but in the same vain what if the race was 57 laps?

All a bit hypothetical really the race length was always 58 laps, although going by the race directors performance, that could have easily changed during the race.

While talking about the race director, does anybody know the real reason he did a complete U turn from "no cars can unlap themselves" to " only the cars between Lewis and Max must get out of the way" ?  Very strange.

So saving F1 against bad press is all that mattered. That worked out well didn't it.

Come off it DK, Hamilton was robbed of an 8th title which ever way you look at it.

It was absolutely the interpretation of the rules that decided the race and championship.

I wonder if your defense of what happened would be the same if you didn't have a son working for Red Bull undecided

Well this is what we have to look forward to next year, F1 2022 Car Always interesting when regulations change and we could see a shake up of the accepted order? Perhaps a current middle ranking team will find its way to the front. I am sure we all have our favourite team/driver but I think F1 needs more teams vying to win races to make it a real contest and add to the interest.

Roll on 2022 and let’s see other drivers winning and gaining podium places.

In my view 2021 has been just what F1 needed, a really good shake up after 6 years of relative boredom.

I don’t have any interests in either team. However, both drivers were worthy of the win, as has been demonstrated by their performances all season. Yes events transpired to aid MV, however that does not detract from the fact that his team played a blinder with their strategy and without that it wouldn’t of been possible for him to pass on the last lap. It wasn’t that easy even with almost brand new softs. The decision was made by MM within the latitude of what is currently allowed and I believe we should accept the decision and move on. I am sure regulations  will be changed / firmed up in the light of last weekend to make a repeat unlikely.

Not to sure how we got on to racism in the sport, but if we look at the "We race as one " played before each race and the banner and taking of the knee prior to each start this season, which to my recollection has never been booed as in other sports, the racism point is not appropriate.

Forty percent of next years races are in countries with majority non-white population which would not welcome a racist sport.

Again to my recollection Lewis Hamilton has been applauded, and rightly so, with great enthusiasm for many years in all his races up to the point where a genuine challenger emerged in the form of Rosberg and now Verstappen. In both seasons where the title was closely contested, Rosberg Hamilton and Verstappen were booed by fans after some races where a dubious manoeuvre cost their favoured driver points and positions.

This season Max and Lewis have been booed by the opposition fans several times. Not because Max is white or Lewis Black.

I fully accept that I want Red Bull to win. Am I biased, probably, not only because Simon works there but also because the team is based in MK. However the race official was put in a Judgement of Solomon position. Which ever way he went he would have been wrong in the eyes of many. As some of us have pointed out there was no need for Lewis to have lost that race, he was let down by his team, not the Race Director. I wonder if this is the reason the Mercedes Team are making all this fuss as a way of hiding their own short comings, and not the first time this season? At the time of the crash and when the safety car was employed Red Bull had no idea how the rest of the race would pan out, or even if it would restart or finish under the safety car. However they were brave enough to take a gamble and pit Max so he could cover any eventuality. It seems that Mercedes calculated that the race would not restart, especially if all lapped cars were let through. The Race Director didn't want it to finished that way so he made the decision that some are now questioning.

We all have our opinions on the outcome of the race but it's now history. Let's look forward to next year and a new breed of hybrid cars which will as mentioned above allow a wider spectrum of winners.

Did anyone notice in the post race interview with Lewis by Jenson, when he said about coming back fighting next year? I think Lewis responded with "if" there's a next year. I hope he doesn't retire as I think it will be another good fight with other drivers in the mix, George Russell certainly will rise to the challenge, along with hopefully Lando and Carlos. And just maybe Max will have matured a little more.

    He was still robbedwink

That is the sticking point, had he followed the rules the race would have, should have ended under the safety car. "The race director didn't want it to finish that way" , so we just through the rule book away disgraceful.

One could hope but I doubt it he will be even more pig headed and arrogant after a period of publicity and praise.

Looking forward to seeing the other new young drivers though Russell, Lando and Carlos here's hoping they give him a hard time.

I hope Lewis does stick around and then we will see how good he is against a competitive teammate. No wonder he liked driving alongside Bottas as he was obviously no threat.

If he loses the championship next year, especially if that is against GR, then I'm sure he will retire.

I may be a cynic but the more ambiguous the rules the easier it will be for the FIA/F1 to get themselves off the hook next time they make an enormous, shall we say mistake so I don’t get reported.

There is a very interesting highlight in this article.

”team principles had made a request that races are not finished behind a safety car”

that would make Michael Massi’s position very difficult in this instance, especially as both principles were pressurising him to accommodate their team

David,as I understand it Mercedes could not bring Lewis in to change tyres, because he would have lost the lead to MV.Red Bull would have just kept MV on the track. This was another incident where it was not a level playing field.Mercedes would of been dammed if they did and dammed if they didn't.

I don't believe for one minute the race director has "saved" F1 I think it has done the completed opposite.

Football has its VAR, Penalty shoot Outs where both teams have 5 penalties,Cricket has its ultra edge, and in extreme circumstances a 1 over bowl off Tennis has its Hawkeye and the Tiebreaker and  Formula 1 did this.

Bluemalaga, I have re-read the article and cannot find the quote you have made.

What I did find was, and I quote "Red Bull team principal Christian Horner admitting that F1 bosses had discussed trying to ensure races did not end under safety-car conditions because it's an anti-climax."

So it actually says F1 bosses had discussed it and not not team principles. These are two different sets of people with very different agendas.

    Same thing

If they are different sets of people, my guess is bosses and principles would have discussed and whoever is the lower rank would do as they were told,

No totally different. F1 bosses are there to look after the interests i.e. profits of the F1 organisation. Team principles are there to make a cohesive team that wins races.

Its quite understandable that F1 bosses don't want the race to end behind a safety car, although they were quite happy to run the whole race behind a safety car in Belgium so they didn't have to reimburse the fans ticket prices.
