Miserable day here as well H&T. We did manage a couple of hours in the front garden on Monday when it was nice. Took everything to the skip this morning, bins all ready for the next good day.
Off to a meet up with our friends from the West coast tomorrow. Meeting at a restaurant on the outskirts of Stirling as usual. It's a nice place that has a nice lounge we can go an have coffee in afterwards and a good chat. Works out just about half way for us both, though they take a little longer to get there due to the route they use. Haven't seen them in the flesh since September last year, think it will be a very long lunch.
We can now look at booking our ferry for April, I've been holding off as I had to do a repeat mammogram. Went to the main hospital in Dundee yesterday and all is well, phew!
Still not fully committed to a route but I'm fancying driving through Switzerland, then to the lakes. The German holiday is earlier this year due to an earlier Easter so will have to watch where we are when it starts.
Would like to get away in the van first once we get some dry weather, all the fields are still flooded, rivers are high and everywhere is just so dirty with it washing onto the roads at times. The gritters were out the last 2 nights but we haven't had frost.
It's our second eldest grandchilds birthday today, he is now 16. I know we all say it but where did the time go. He is currently in Italy with his school having his first skiing holiday. Wasn't enjoying it to start with but now enjoying it. Yesterday he managed to make it from the top to the bottom without falling over 😅 his sister (14) is doing well with her karting and has been taken on by an academy, her timings are good and hopefully now she is getting professional tuition they will continue to get even better.
WN, good to hear MIL is working through it. As you say a long process. Hope you and OH are looking after yourselves too. Take care.

Pretty miserable in Glasgow too, lot of rain, but at least the strong wind has gone.
Had a 09.00 appointment with the cardiologist, several tests, and he sees no reason why I should not have the parathyroid op, so no idea why it was cancelled back in December. Now back on the waiting list.......no doubt it is highly likely this will result in us having to cancel our Easter trip to York with the grandchildren........or our trip to my sister in Norway's 80th in July. Bound to be one or the other!

Long day in the saddle for Mrs.WN today. Had to be at the hospital before 11 am and wait with her mother to be transferred by ambulance to the main hospital at Wrexham for an eye consultation. Transference took place at 1, back at 4.30.
Worth it though as Optometrist diagnosed 2 things wrong with the left eye. Can't remember technical terms but one of them described as a wobbly eye ball and the other as dizziness inducing. Not pleasant for MiL. At least she's been given permission to "correct" Physios instructions about looking dead ahead.
Back in 4 weeks to see if any improvement.
Thought I take OH out for a meal. Forgot it's Valentines Day. Oh well it's the thought that counts. Pizza and a bottle of donated bubbly red Shiraz made do. Appreciated.

Pleased to read that your MIL has a way forward with her eye problem, WN. Hopefully it will have improved by the time of her next visit to the eye consultant. Glad that you both managed to find a good restaurant for your Valentine meal and enjoyed the bubbly!

Been a very rainy day day here, although I did manage a couple of dry walks from the van, and short, muddy, wet one when we went out for a short run in the car this morning.

OH had suggested we might buy a "dine in" , but decided that as the freezer is quite full so we should instead opt for Waitrose Chicken Kiev, with home prepared roasted potatoes, all in the air fryer, with broccoli, and Hollandaise sauce. Accompanied by a bottle of Waitrose Cava, last of our Christmas order. Was all very nice.

For a Christmas present one of our grandsons gave us an invitation to a Buffet Party - posh finger food it said. He's studying Cyber Security at University, but one of his passions is cooking - especially out of the ordinary recipes.
So last night he carried over four courses and a bottle of wine. We were left to our own devices to enjoy Chicken Lollipops with Black Sauce, miniature Toad in the Holes, Pan Fried Flat Cannoli and cherry macarons.
Much better than a meal out!

For ordinary everyday meals, Carol uses a series of 'lower calorie' recipe books called 'Pinch of Nom'. We find them quite good, and the food is quite tasty. I think she has 5/6 books now and they've served us well as we both need to 'lose a few pounds'!! 😀😀 Mind you... she's had them a few years..... and we still 'need to lose a few pounds'.... 🤣🤣🤣

Indeed some nice sounding food. I enjoy cooking, making up my own variations of recipes, so sometimes we opt to stay in for a special meal rather than go out somewhere. I’m off for an afternoon tea though Saturday, a chocolate based one, at Wentworth Woodhouse, up in the long gallery. It’s a special they do for Valentine week, but our party is “three ladies who afternoon tea”. Our ex next door neighbour, another neighbour and me, we meet up around every three months and do something. They don’t know my home town very well yet, so I promised to take them around WW.

The weather had been a bit grey and grim recently. A deluge of rain last Thursday, a wet and grey weekend, and then we had a really nice sunny day on Monday - hooray we thought an end to the bad weather - wrong! Tuesday teemed with rain all day and the areas that were beginning to dry out a bit from all the rain last month are now flooded again
. Yesterday was drizzly to start with and then perked up a bit but no sun. Much the same today grey but dryish. I did an afternoon on the Cathedral shop on Tuesday and yesterday morning I went to a Guides Meeting at the Cathedral. We discussed Katharine of Aragon and her grave and also Mary Queen of Scot's funeral. All very interesting. I then decided to make a point and go into the M&S in town as I needed a few food bits. M&S say they are going to close that branch in a couple of months as it is 'underused'. I have to say the Food Hall was very busy.DSB our eldest son, who is diabetic, got into cooking a few years ago and uses the 'Pinch of Nom' books and the meals he has cooked for us have been very tasty. We don't do Valentine's Day anymore as there are too many family birthdays (mine plus both of our sons and one of our DIL's) plus our Wedding Anniversary in February
Glad to hear that there is some news on your MIL's problems with her sight WN and hope they can sort out some improvement for her. It sounds as though it is going to be a long haul. I hope your OH can have a bit of a rest today. Glad you had a good holiday TG It sounds as though you had a wonderful time.2 -

Been positively tropical here today (well, 13 degrees!). After I came back from the dog walk on our now somewhat less pebbly beach, I got stuck in and got the pressure washer out and blasted both cars. It's no doubt due to the amount of rain we've had, but despite the front drive being south facing, the sides of both cars which are usually in the shade had started to grow little gardens of moss around the window seals
. They were looking a bit sad but after an hour's work, look much better now. I suppose tomorrow, I'll have to bring myself to cleaning the inside of mine which hasn't been touched for months and might be the reason why there's less sand on Hornsea beach, than usual

Weather has been quite settled today, here, Millie.... in fact for February it's been quite warm. Just been out to the shops and to get deisel for the car - prices are up and down all the while at the moment.... Popped in to take a few things back to the caravan. Glad you like the Pinch-of-Nom recipes....
Hope they can sort something out for your MIL's sight, Wherenext.

I think he last posted in January last year. He was such a prolific poster we are bound to notice that he no longer posts. I don't know if JK has some inside information but just hope nothing has befallen either himself or his partner.

No inside info. DK except I knew the staff at Ferry Meadows when he last went there (can't comment further). He was well respected with majority of site staff. It would be good to know how they are fairing though.

I knew he was getting a bit miffed with the new system and prices but his MO would be to discuss that, to put it mildly, rather than keep quiet
He was a prolific user of Club sites up to that point and as he often mentioned Ferry Meadows was his second home! From his posts it was clear his other half was having difficulties in the van and with mobility so who knows, perhaps I shouldn't speculate but curiosity is difficult to dull! He was one of several long time posters who seemed to have disappeared in the last year, I guess we will never know.

Like you new profile photo, Millie! I think most of us are sick and tired of the rain, I know we are. It has hardly stopped for well over 3 months now, well at least at the places we have visited. We did manage a couple of dry walks, before and after lunch, but we had more rain again mid afternoon.

Beautiful day here yesterday had a great time out on my bike, OH took herself off shopping, she has an automatic car so gets around locally quite easily, and she is a Sterling Moss with the shopping trolley. Looks like being a great day Solar panels already clocking up 1kw
p.s. a couple of Italian naval vessels in the Solent, nice to see some countries still have a Navy

Think we might be fairing a little bit dryer at the moment over here, and it was very warm here yesterday. Probably got more to come though. Plenty of crocus, hellebore and even a few daffodils out here. Garden is starting to wake up. Have been wondering how my Banana will have done, first year outside, well wrapped up, and likely to stay that way until late May I am guessing.

That said we have some blue patches and sky today, which is a fabulous change. Its been grey, dull, wet and uninspiring here. But garden is coming to life thankfully.
It's been grey, dull wet and uninspiring here for what feels like months. 5 inches of rain since 8 January.
Feeling lousy, achy, temperature and energyless. Not covid thankfully. Poor Dora 4 days without a proper walk. OH manages his round the block once a day with her. She's just come in and spent a while circling and checking best spot to be in the full sun streaming in from window!
My brother has been in hospital, thankfully home now, bronchitis, pneumonia and pleurisy 😱. Felt off Thursday afternoon 24 hours later A&E - admitted Friday, bed on a ward Monday, home Tuesday! Not seen him so not infected each other.....
Got to restart looking for bathroom and cloakroom refits, big sigh, as our plumber unable to do bathrooms after very bad wrist break, needed plating - now found elbow damage. Last August a week before he was due to start. Could have been worse it might have been as he started 😱. Really feel for him, great worker, own business and young family..... Luckily he should be able to continue boiler servicing and heating, 🤞we don't need heating work, as he has an apprentice and one now qualified, even when he did our boiler September 2022, to help him.
Good to read others news. Get well wishes to the poorly, strength to their carers and visitors.

well if its of any consolation the weather did go down hill a little bit as the day went on, but still had about a dozen swimmers in the Solent this afternoon when i cycled past.

well we lost Rufs last year and miss him terribly, but i look back at all the wet, cold and windy days we have had this winter, with probably more to come, and in some ways i am pleased i dont have to trudge out, bring home a very wet and dirty dog clean him off etc, but it was worth it while we had him

On the subject of all this rain.... we have just received yet another email from our Site to say that the river has just burst it’s banks again. Another flood warning given, hopefully it will go down again quicker this time and not get across the site. Really hope the weather dries up before the season starts. Probably like many others on here I’m just looking forward to warm summer evenings and a GnT sitting outside our caravan. We paid this years site fees today that has reduced the bank balance somewhat!!

Just come in from a good couple of hours in garden, still reasonably light up to 5.45pm, and not too cold. Great to see things coming back to life. Got arrangements for tomorrow sorted now, looking forward to an afternoon out.

Just back from from a visit to the pub, bumped into our old neighbours who now live in the village, was lovely to see them and catch up with all the news.
Youngest son had his 30th birthday this week, where does the time go? 😯 Our grand-daughter is 2 on Sunday time passes too quickly.

Thank heavens for all sorts of NHS testing is all I can say. I’m sure none of us enjoy it at the time, but I know my OH is grateful, and remains so.

We went to see a friend of ours yesterday morning who has recently had her second hip operation. She lives on her own and her sons live away so she needs company at the moment. It was good to catch up with her and see how well her recovery is going. We spent an hour or two in the garden in the afternoon doing a bit of planting up and tidying. It was nice to be out there.
Sorry you feel so poorly bakers2 I hope you feel better soon. I am glad you can see my new avatar nellie as it hasn't come up on any of my devices!
