So sorry to hear that your brother is back in hospital, OP, hope that they able to sort out his move in the not too distant future.

Interesting YouTube, Goldie,  highlighting the great job that you are all doing for the environment.

Welcome home TG you've missed quite a lot happening , or not, on CT!! Sounds like you had a fine holiday.

Better day weather wise, at least up to mid afternoon. We had a couple of walks on Longridge Fell, getting back to the car from the second one just before the rain started.

Our caravan Park is flooded again up to the same height as last time so I really hope that our floats do their job again. Thankfully set to start to drop later today. The site has always flooded but not quite so often or in such quick succession, probably due to climate change. We are not too bothered when we aren’t there but can be stressful if we are planning to go - shall we shan’t we if it’s rising - or are already there as we then either have to opt to leave when it starts rising or may have to leave suddenly, maybe at night time, if it rises quickly, and it’s a long journey home again. I’m becoming a river watch expert in that area, however this was a bit of a flash flood as it was very low last week. Hope it’s better in March as we have tickets booked for the RSC.

Also sorry to hear your news Goldie - hope things improve for you soon.

Been getting the van ready for a week away at York Beechwood Grange soon.  Not been there before - so that will mean an addition to my collection of site plaques.  Ros wanted to have a day out shopping - but I said that only on the condition that Meg and I don't have to come!! So - I'll be taking her to the Designer Outlet and dropping her off and Meg and I can have a quiet day on our ownsmile

Can't believe the state of our beach at the moment.  It's normally fairly sandy but can change dramatically in no time.  A few days ago it wasn't too bad - a few rocks / large pebbles but still plenty of sand - but look at it this morning - it's horrendous trying to walk on it. I've never seen it this bad before.  Just goes to show the power of the sea - thousands of tons of sand have just disappeared.

As I have posted before, over winter I tend to do jigsaw puzzles just to keep the old grey cells ticking over. Yesterday I completed the last one. I use the motorhome table so at some point I have put that back where it belongs for the coming season. I have already posted a picture of the "Waves Jigsaw" I did, but here the other five I have completed since then.

Today we have had a visit from the 2 little terrors, otherwise known as our grandchildren Callum and  Nathan.  Mummy needed a couple of cupboard doors altered to fit a cupboard they were never intended to be used on, meaning the hinges had to be moved, so, having prepared everything, I needed her to come and hold the doors level and straight while I drilled new hinge holes.

They came for lunch and were here till about 3.30, then I took them, and the doors, home so I could start fitting the hinges to the   cupboards.  One done and one to go.  Will finish that on Wednesday.

Otherwise, I have been turning honey dippers, a lady that sells honey  and other "bee related" products has asked me to make 6 honey dippers for her.  DD is still getting  the occasional order for spurtles, so that  all keeps me busy.

I'm trying to sort our car insurance Helen. The combined percentage increase over both cars amounts to 72% surprised Don't think we'll be renewing somehow.

Wow, that's quite an increase,  my car insurance isn't due until the summer, as I don't use it that much I think I may consider selling it.

We had a call from a friend yesterday who lives on our estate to say her car had been stolen during the night,  mind you she had left her door unlocked and apparently they came in and stole the keys!  Not sure who would want to steal a 13 year old Micra. 🤔

Sorry to hear about your caravan park being flooded again DEBSC, our river had also flooded in town again.

Quiet day yesterday, bit of shopping and then sewed some buttons onto the baby cardigan I've just finished knitting. Will have to find another project now.

I keep watching and the Avon river at Stratford it is going down but very slowly. OH gets a running report from me a few times a day on its height. It was high again, we were sent photos of the town, the bandstand in the Park is an island surrounded by water again. Swans are gliding along the water covered footpaths and right up to the edge of town as the water appears to have reached the first road of the town itself. I think the local houses and villages were ok but it was touch and go and such a worry for them. The staff on site can’t access the office to make any checks and that is situated on high ground at the entrance and is on stilts. I watch the river cam, which shows the town bridge, there was very little space between the top of the river and the bottom of the bridge, you definitely couldn’t get a boat of any type under it. Yesterday suddenly all that was available to see is a wooden plank in front of the camera, I’m guessing it has fallen over in the flood and can’t be adjusted as they can’t yet get to it.

For anyone who buys their gas and electricity from Octopus..................

they now have a 12 month fix that is less than the standard capped rate, with no early exit fee, so looks like a risk free good deal.     We will move on to it at midnight today.  They call it "Loyal Octopus".    Worth considering.

Then you can go back on the regular tariff without penalty if it is lower.   Meantime you get at least 6 winter weeks at less  than the cap.

Did you look at the prices?    They are not the same over the whole country, but for us the cap is ......

    electricity  60.02 ppd + 28.161 pp kWh

    gas   28.485 ppd + 7.371pp kWh

    on the fixed tariff

    electricity   60.02ppd + 24.69pp kWh

    gas  27.47ppd + 5.88pp kWh

so more than  10% below the cap on the kWhs.

I signed up for it a couple of days ago, inspired by an email from EDF advertising their new fix below the cap, but it turned out higher than that offered by Octopus!laughing

Hope that your caravan is ok, Debs. It seem that the major flooding is along the rivers in the Midlands this time, the Aven, the Trent, the Nene, the Geat Ouse and of course the Severn. Fingers crossed that few, if any, properties are flooded. Plenty of flood alerts, rather than warnings, in and around York too.

I can see now that I have one number wrong!

The  existing standing charge for gas is 27.47 ppd, and that is not changed in the fix.

No idea where I got 28.485p from, especially as OH commented that neither of the standing charges were any less, only the kWh costs.

OH suggested a while back to DD that she should switch to Octopus, but  she never got around to it.

Apparently the 12 month fix for new customers is not as good as for existing customers, unit prices are a little higher, but still no fee to leave the tariff early, which is good.

She, and we, would also get £50 each credit using our referral code.......even better!

Wow, that's quite an increase,  my car insurance isn't due until the summer, as I don't use it that much I think I may consider selling it.

Sorted it out today Helen. The insurance was through AA and the increase was 71.8% on last years price. No factor to justify such an increase so I used the same comparison site that I used last year and replaced it with a company I was satisfied with at about 20% dearer. I could have had it cheaper but without some of the cover I wanted.

The irony is that I could have placed it with the company the AA used for about 22% more than last years premium. So the company was undercutting itself. I just can't be bothered with those type of companies if they can be avoided.

Another busy weekend. We get a day off tomorrow.

Hope Oneputt can get his brothers situation sorted out. I know how stressful these things can be.

Another dry day after rain in the night, but we have just had a heavy shower. Moved into another new to us site, a CL this time, which is full tonight, although it doesn't look as if this is because it is half term as there are no families on here.

Nice sunny morning here for a change.

OH gone down to the Men's Shed for a few hours, first time in a month. I guess there will be lots of coffee drank and chatting going on. I'm having a slow morning enjoying sitting in the sun that's coming through the living room window, bliss.

WN, NTH, H&T thanks yes it was a lovely holiday. Last year wasn't so great and we were thinking of giving up our 3weeks timeshare apartment. This year though has been completely different, different crowd, not as busy and different age range. We have bought another week and split the 4 up. We now have 2 weeks at the begining and end of the year. That should do nicely for the future when we no longer want to travel abroad in the van.

Kj, as you know we are going over to Octopus energy at some point this year. Date still not been confirm for the Shell customers to be moved over. We did have on order a smart meter to be installed but we have cancelled that just now as the press comments on them are not great. Even the CEO of Octopus has said the technology of them is rubbish. We are stuck just now as we can't do anything until the taking over process has been completed.

I've had a problem with my phone since we got back from holiday, so I'm now using OHs old phone, it's newer than my phone but I'm not sure yet if I like it.

Car insurance is ridiculously expensive just now. Ours went up 117% last year. Needless to say we switched companies. House insurance wasn't bad last year but I'm expecting a big increase this year. We like the 90 days out of house cover we get with this club but will still shop around.

WN, I was aware of the cyber attack on the club so have changed my password, thank you. Thankfully there was nothing in the pipeline in the way of bookings. How are things with MIL any sign of her getting home.

Not at the moment TG, thanks for asking. We can see some light at the end of the tunnel but still a way to go yet. She's off for a serious eye consultation tomorrow. We should be having a free day as friends of hers visiting but had a surprise call from OHs cousin from north of the border saying they were in the area so they will be here any minute for OH to take them down to see her.

I might be either young child minding, dog minding or both. Think it will be easier for me if it's just the dog.laughing

Edit - Meant to congratulate Rufs OH. Well done that woman.

Oh says many thanks, not a lot of joy with the physio this morning, xrays dont show anything that is actually wrong, possibly some minor arthritis and lack of communication with brain as a result of stroke, suggested a brace but we both quickly poo pooed  that advice, we are hopefully going to do more walking when the weather improves and build up some additional strength, i am also still able to push a wheelchair when needed so no problems, crack on, as they say laughing

We had a nice lunch with my cousin and his wife today. Sadly we both have to go to the funeral of one of our other cousins on Monday which got us discussing family history. I knew that one of my uncles, on my mothers side,  was killed in the war on Malta but didn't know the ship he was on. Geoff, my cousin,  was able to tell me it was HMS Kingston (interestingly built on the IOW) The ship was involved in all sorts of action in the Mediterranean during the early part of the war. Although there were some sailors killed in action many were actually killed when the ship was in dry dock in Malta whilst on shore during an air raid, including it seems my uncle. He is buried in the Imtarfa Military Cemetery on Malta. I just wish I had been inquisitive enough to ask all these questions and make notes years ago!!!

I think the idea is to rent it out when they get things sorted....  it's early days yet though.  The photos are from it's previous owner, but it looks the same - they are not picking it up until Friday.  Then they will need to landscape etc.  They do have quite a bit of room, but I think, eventually, they want to buy another plot of land locally where they can site a variety of different units.... a la Johnny Vegas Glamping.   I guess that will be a few years down the line.... who knows!!!  🤣🤣

Glad you got thr car insurance sorted Wherenext,  I've started shopping around for our home insurance the premiums vary so much cheapest at just over £100 but never heard of the company,  🤔 up to almost £300 😱

I posted the other day a friend phoned  to say her car had been stolen, turns out she had visited a friend parked it at her house then caught the bus into town, she then caught a bus home forgetting she had left her car at her friends. We did laugh 🤣🤣🤣

Been a thoroughly miserable day weather wise, rain on and off all day.

Love the converted horsebox DSB. 🙂

Hope everyone enjoys their pancakes tonight 😋

According to Martin Lewis the best time is 3 weeks before it's due. Same for house insurance they go up the nearer to renewal day it gets.

Yes, that's right TG.... I have my diary set so that it reminds me a month before the policies are up to give me the time to 'do the rounds' to get the best price.  However, I do like to stick with the CAMC for house insurance as I've found it generally gives me better cover - especially with regard to leaving your house unoccupied....
