We've arrived at Castleton CAMC site this afternoon. Only here for a short stay, but we've used our free night voucher.  Fingers crossed for some reasonable weather.  Forgot to cancel the milk, but I'm sure our daughter (the one from Devizes) who is staying at home, will make good use of it!!

Our eldest daughter has arrived back in the Outer Hebrides, and our Son-in-law is just fitting new laminate flooring before flying off to Switzerland to work on Tuesday..

Our son (who lives the other side of the village) seems to have taken an interest in woodworking and has started to build a table, with all the traditional 'joints'...

As for me... I'm opening a bottle of wine!!!  🤣🤣🤣

You know our thoughts are with you all, WN. Fingers crossed that your MIL has a speedy recovery. We

B2, it doesn't seem like 5 years since your husband's operation. Here's hoping that you have lots more 5yr periods together.

Good to read that you have made it to Castleton, David, and that it looks as if you had no problem claiming your free night, as we are heading up to the Meathop Fell site tomorrow and will claim our free night there. I would think that there won't be many on your site after tonight and that MF will similarly be quiet.

We had another fine day today, after a frost through the night, although not as sunny as Saturday. We had a couple of walks from the site around different parts of the forest, which was very popular today with lots of families out together before the children to back to school tomorrow.

So sorry to hear of your news from the cardiologist bakers2. Life can be a 'bummer' sometimes ☹️. Glad to hear you had your family to yours for lunch though. Your grandson sounds a delight. Our gt grandson kept us all entertained at his 4th birthday celebrations this afternoon. They are great fun aren't they!

    Yes wherenext hugs back 🫂.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and prayers. It explains lots from the last few months. Maybe a medication tweak will assist? The situation isn't new just a bit more tired 😢.

Thoughts to all not feeling their best and their carers...

Actually pegged out the towels, no rain, a slight breeze, still very grey.

Milliehull watching the little ones is a joy 😊. I'd love some of their energy! Very privileged position to be a grandparent or great grandparent, the pleasures without full responsibility and 'parenting tiredness' 😀

Just looked up from typing this to see large deposit on tge patio door, window cleaner came Saturday! There's grateful for my supplying regular feed. On the plus side its missed my washing.....

Right slow start here, must walk the dog. Found sons wallet when I drew back the curtains - he came to the conclusion he hadn't brought it here! Sothat to dropoffand optician appointment....

Great difficulty getting page to open to read posts this morning. Maybe me, but I’ve managed to open other sites with no bother. The amount of ‘maintenance ‘ always being carried out should make this site much better than it is.

I had a problem last night.  When I eventually got a post to send, another post appeared before mine which was timed more than 10 min before, which wasn't visible to me until after I'd posted.  It could have been my internet connection as we're out in the caravan.... who knows...  🙂

WN, so sorry to about your MILs stroke. Please give her our best wishes and a speedy recovery.

Very cold here again today - 4c early hours this morning. Car took ages to clear.

Shopping trip for Gkids, why don't they get everything needed before leaving home 😒 tomorrow it's hair cutting for grandson before taking them both back to school, again why did it not get done before coming up here. 😧 Grandaughter has a hospital appointment to go to late tomorrow afternoon, so we'll be taking her. Hopefully this time the medics can shed some light on what's happening with her. Almost a year ago she was rushed in as she had lost all feeling in her feet and legs. That was the second time, it's happened a few more times since, various tests including lumbar puncture, ultra sound and MRI have been done but so far no firm diagnosis.

Been looking online at houses (well bungalows)  have seen a few that fit the bill so going to go and check out the areas to see what it's like on Wednesday . So far we have looked at Fife, which we like but willing to try further south of Edinburgh down to the Northumberland. Just need to get started and on with it before I loose the moment. Really want a detached property this time.

"Been looking online at houses (well bungalows) "

we are in our second bungalow (detached) and it will be our last, not moving ever again, we sold one in Scotland when we moved south, 5 miles outside Turriff, probably too far north for you TG, it was a self build shipped in from Sweden and sat in 1/2 an acre up a farm track, looking out over the Grampians and as far out as the Cairngorms, loved it but climate was no good for OH too cold so we sold up and moved to our present detached bungalow, just find bungalows so much more accomodating and much easier to keep warm, and outside maintenance is so much easier, we have 2 double bedrooms each with on-suite, a god send when OH was bed ridden/using a wheelchair, but caravan is on a hardstanding on a small plot next to bungalow so we use this for guests if necessary, no need to be rattling about in a 4 bed property when for most of the time there is just the 2 of us

Had our first snow today, well if you blinked you missed it, but def snow, bitterly cold but folk still swimming in the Solent, had 5 Blue tits on a shrub in the back garden that is covered in just pink flowers and smells really lovely, no leaves, no idea what it is was here when we moved in. Had some sunshine but not a lot so solar panels are not earning their keep.undecided

sounds like a witch Hazel- hamamelis. Beautiful smell, I envy you.

My winter sweet, Chimonanthus, is out. Smells nice but only a couple of blooms. It's in a pot, again! Last thing I bought with some money from my mum 5 years ago. Planted it at other houses, potted for the move. Planted last year, then decided to create more grassed area, so potted again. So I'm delighted it's survived. I'll give it more thought for planting........ Needs to be where you pass to catch the fragrance, but we have some very breezy areas where it would be great!

I was guided by brue when I chose it. Miss her news

The shrub could also be Vibernam x Bodnantense.   We planted one when we moved here 15 years ago, fragrant pink flowers in winter.

Sorry to hear about your MIL Wherenext, do hope she improves very soon.   Also your OH cardiology problems B2.  As has been said above thread, hugs all round.

Spoke to main honcho on the phone at hospital this morning. Nice of him to ring. He explained things and it sounds like a bit of time until they get MiL stabilised, which Mrs.WN witnessed when visiting this afternoon. In fact they called a doctor whilst she was there.

Feel sorry for OH after all she went through with me, now this plus it's her birthday. We'll try to get out in the morning to do something together, birdwatching or a walk, then have lunch out before visiting hours. We've been on the phone most of the morning ringing various people, who tell mutual friends who then ring etc. Nice to know people are concerned but..

Good luck with Bungalow hunting TG. We don't regret moving into one many  years ago now.

Really sorry to read about your MIL'S stroke Wherenext, sending best wishes to you all, and also to Bakers2 .

Had a wonderful day yesterday even if we were slightly knackered after playing with our Grand-daughter. We've now got baby sitting dates in the diary.

Very cold today, but with a breeze so some of the washing dried outside. OH still working on the new fence posts while I went to work. Had to pick up a few bits in town,  very quiet, mind you not many shops left.☹

We arrived after an easy drive up from Cheshire. Around 4:00 there were about 35 units on site, so about half full as nearly 30 pitches are out of use due to resurfacing work. The surprising thing, after reading lots of other posts, is that there are only 3 units on the serviced pitches and they are all caravans!! It has been a fine day but much colder than the last few.

Hope that they are able to find out the cause of your MIL's stroke, WN. It must be tough for your OH, and hope that you can get out for a few hours walk and lunch tomorrow.

TG, good luck with finding a bungalow. We like the Fife area, although that might because my family on my father's side comes from there!!😁

Sometimes (more often lately) I wish we lived in a bungalow. Our house has grown from a small simple 16th century house to large farmhouse as each generation built a bit on. No planning needed back then!. Different levels, several staircases. Some with bannisters (wobbly). But no bannister to our bedroom which I have taken to muttering about, as my knees start to crack up. So - for my Birthday/Christmas present he gave me a bannister. Bespoke height and fittings made from bit of scrap lying around the farm. And even a silver bow.

Belated birthday greetings to Mrs Wherenext.  I hope you manage to mark the occasion with a walk and lunch before the hospital visit.

It's very cold here, rather bright, but not clear blue. Some semblance of a yellow object in the sky. Most puzzled

RUFS,  we are currently in a semi-detached bungalow, have been here for 32 years now and really like the way we now have it. We've  done a fair bit of work over the years both on the house and garden.

Ideally we wouldn't think of moving but the village has doubled in size in that time and now has lots of young families in it. Our neighbours are young with 2 children aged 7 and 9. Nice couple nice kids but they are getting noisier every year and it's becoming an issue as we get older and don't want to have to put up with it.

We've decided that it has to be a detached, Fife is our first choice as we like it, lots of coastline and nice places to visit on day trips. Perth is nice OHs home town and I've lived here since 1966 (apart from the years in Germany) beginning to look at years to come when we are no longer touring will we still be happy in this house or would we be happier somewhere else so lots of things to discuss and consider before we get to old to cope with a move.

Going north or west is not a consideration so it's south or east. I don't mind the cold but I really hate rain so west is definitely out.

GKids just up and I'm trying to get them moving it really is like herding cats. 🤣 They have used a whole month's data in 3 days 😟 had to do an add on this morning for the rest of the month. We have 50gb which does us fine as we rarely stream stuff, they are never off their phones and it's a streaming. Oh well they will be back on their mobile data once they get back to school.

Time to chase them up and get the car loaded and into town for grandsons hair cut.

Goldie belated birthday greetings. What a super present!

Rufus our neighbour had 'legs' on yesterday, can't recall him doing it before. Postie still in shorts.

We now have glorious sunshine, I really thought it had been stolen! It's mighty chilly outside but dry. First time in weeks. My rainwater bucket was emptied yesterday, 10 inches since 30 October! (It was accidentally left out and i left it until it overflowed - now curious to see ongoing rainfall....)

We returned from our dog walk, including fields, without either of us needing feet washing. Dora heads straight to the dog shower on our return these days. Most puzzled that she didn't get her feet warmed! Yes very spoilt dog 🐕.  I have to do my boots first, so the cold has cleared the hose! Didn't realise dogs can give you a disgusted look! Might be able to do the nearest fields if this cold snap continues 😀.

Tammygirl, very sensible to be considering moving now. Similar you we'd been in our house 36 years and got it retirement ready. Surroundings weren't as there were when we moved in, but despite being walking distance of the town, a village atmosphere continued. It was OH's health, covid and son having a family that galvanised us and my mum passing away at 89 gave us the freedom.

It was much harder work, than I remember 😉, as we had moved several times before settling. Probably not as many as you in service life! Whatever it appears to be it'll need licking into your shape! Good luck in your hunt. At least once your offer is accepted you know its certain. Unlike the nail biting awaiting exchange of contracts months on in England. We agreed an offer in September, survey within a week and tenterhooks until exchange in February! Only 5 in the chain, one no sale, one new build...... 😡

well large parts of both my legs are metal and plastic so do not feel the cold so much, but did not sucumbe, and glorious day today, managed to persuade OH to stretch her legs walking/wheelchair from Lee to Stokes bay , surprised at how quickly some of the gravel parts of the route have dried out, and there were lots of people out enjoying the sunshine and eating ice cream, i still have birthday vouchers for the ice cream shop must use them soon. Took this shot thru the windscreen, you can just about see the silhouette of the IOW, this was at approx 1445 hrs, surprising just how high in the sky the sun now is, soon be summerlaughing
