Thanks DK. It’s a new to us site, but friends use cabins regular. Can only manage a couple of nights, but we shall have fun, we used to go away regular together before ill health hit, so it’s good they can manage a cabin. Plus we get to have a good look around one. We did try and book a cabin, but nothing available with a pooch, but it gives MH a good run out.
We know Scarborough inside and out, probably had more holidays there as a child than anywhere else, but we shall take MH down under castle, and use it as a warm rest stop for some lunch…..providing sea isn’t coming over top🤣 It’s not looking cycling weather🫣 My inner child is telling me to save 2p’s for Amusements🤣 Love Scarborough, it has so many wonderful memories down the years. OH and I once went swimming in February there, back when we were very young and crackers🤭

A quick count gave us around 28 still existing Club Sites we have used, plus a couple of AS ones like Lidalia. Far too many others we used to love are now gone….Threeways, Much Wenlock, Ladycross to name three, and the old Trax ones like Hexham. We did use Hexham a few years ago in its post Club guise, and very nice it was…..

And me!!smile  You couldn't make it up, could you?

Heddlo - I think the Cow Shed is open again - we didn't go in because of the lure of the F&C, but there was an A-board outside saying we are open (I think) Wednesday to Sunday. It looked deserted - but not surprising considering the weather and time of year. I know they were struggling to get the staff - which isn't surprising considering that long, windy single-track road which is hardly part-time - non-driving teenager - friendly, is it?  I do hope it gets back on its feet, though.

Yes quite agree with the staffing issues at the Cowshed Richard.  That was the reason it was closed when we went in the summer with the dog.  We can understand why, given its location.  Think they need some live-in accommodation!

DEBSC,  we had an email back in the summer from BG inviting us to apply for the offer, I thought it was open to all customers with a smart meter. 🤔 They then extended the offer up until the end of December, like you say no mention in the advert about it not being available to all customers.

Happy Birthday to Meg 🥳🥳 hope she enjoyed the doggy cake.

Very quiet at work today, had time to catch up with of the filing, not my favourite of job's ☹

Our little Grand-daughter has chicken pox,  poor love is covered in spots, although she apparently isn't too poorly.

Have been sorting through my baby knitting patterns, our neighbour is expecting a baby next year, and it will probably take me until then to complete anything .🤣

Find if you like staying on a car park, with nothing else to look at but other caravans, in my opinion. Have stayed once but won't be going back again. However others seem to like it, everyone to their own, I suppose.

Birthday greetings to Meg, R&R. Our Flyte will be 11 next April, and he does now like his sleep, but still pulls hard when we are out. We cannot let him off the lead very often nowadays, as he is blind, but he has adapted very well both at home and in the caravan since it happened.

Helen, hope your granddaughter soon gets over her chicken-pox.

Tonight's the start of catching up on gigs we missed last year (when Henry's hip was in a very bad way). So Bionic Man and I are off to Harrogate Royal Hall to see Show of Hands. It's the start of their final tour as a band so there's no way we could miss it. Seats in the middle of the front row.

Four more gigs before Christmas (but nearer home, so no hotels) and then six before Easter. Living life to the full!

Oh!!! the joys of Southport...I am a Blackburn boy and we used to cycle to Southport, almost 30 miles, saddle bags full of jam butties, bottle of pop and a slice of mums fruit loaf, saddle bags empty we would return home filling the saddle bags with apples from the orchards we passed on the way, the joys.

Scarborough....again as a boy we used to holiday at a small holiday village on the top of the cliffs at North Bay (Scalby Mills) sadly now a housing estate. We used to swim at the mouth of the river at Scalby Mills as it was always fairly deep even at low tide, more recently, well when our tribe were very young, i remember pulling into a site just outside Scarborough that said no children but the kind lady on reception allowed us to stay provided the children were good, we stayed in a converted railway carriage and had a splendid time.

Not a lot happening in Stubbers, we seem to be having lots of rain at present, so we are keeping busy getting ready for Christmas, we will have at least 2 celebrations this year, Spanish daughter is coming for first week in December and is expecting Christmas dinner with all the trimmings and then we will be with our local daughter on Christmas day.

Christmas tree is ordered along with some hyacinths in twinkly pots, love the smell of hyacinths used to grow my own from bulbs when we lived in Scotland but not done so since we moved south, OH off to scrabble club this afternoon, she is learning how to play again after her stroke, she is very good, i have stopped playing as i feel there are now too many dubious words that are allowed, she has 2 A4 sheets of these some i have never ever come across.undecided

We are on the look out for gigs and other events at the moment. Local band The Reytons are doing an open air gig next year in local park, but we thought tickets were a bit expensive for a relatively new (2021) band. They are good though. Last concert in same place was a few years ago (T.Rex🤣, and yep, we went.) Sting is on tour as well, love The Police and Sting on his own, tickets same price as Reytons, so I think,it might be Sting for us. We are off to see Eddie Izzard on the 22nd, last saw him a long time ago, pre transition, but he’s bound to be very funny. Then there’s National Cycling Championships (Olympic selection for Paris) over in Manchester in February, got tickets for this. Just pondering England v Brazil next March at the moment🤔 It’s at Wembley, but we could take MH to Wyatts Covert🤔

Actually David you could probably take about 10 off that figure as they are/were AS sites, which shouldn't count. Most of them winter stop offs. There's also a few Club sites that were 1 or 2 nights, but visited all the same.

The ladies wanted various things from town so drove them in whilst I returned and washed the car. Then returned to town to pick them up and visit the library. MiL needed to return this afternoon so yet another trip as buses almost non existent in afternoons.

Leaves are falling from the woods at the rear. Not a heavy fall as yet so I'll leave it awhile to clear up.

We like Lidalia AS site. Stayed a couple of times, but a long time ago. Done a good few Racecourse sites that used to be affiliated as well. Hexham, Wetherby, Fakenham, Wincanton, Market Rasen, all sadly gone now from Club network. I don’t think Uttoxeter will re open, Club need to update folks on what’s happening there, as it’s a good stopover site for either North-South, or East-West.

Over the years we have probably done approaching 90/100 Club sites if you include those that used to be in the network like some of the TRAX sites and Club sites which are now closed like Bladon Chains and Mildenhall. I am racking my brain to think of some of the old sites that are no longer with us. Folkestone, Wincanton, Newcastle Race Course, The old Brighton Race Course, Worthing, Prestatyn, Braemar  and there must be more.

TTDA, there's a good alternative that can be used about 5-6 miles north off the A50. I've posted about it on the Small Sites thread in UK touring section. Suit both Caravanners and those with M/Home.

Ladycross, on North York Moors. There was another up in South Scotland as well, not far from Gullane🤔

Aberlady! Looks like C&CC are involved now.

I have just done a quick check up and we have used 79 past and present club sites, so not as many as some, along with 65 C&CC sites, out of the 520+ sites we have visited in this country.

Today has been the first without rain, so far, for a couple of weeks, with lovely sunshine although rather chilly. I managed to get the outside of the van Bobby Dazzled this afternoon and hopefully will get the inside cleaned tomorrow.

We stayed there many moons ago on a golfing and walking  holiday, mainly walking after wayward golf shots.laughing

Anyone remember the one at Caenarvon? Think it must have been AS as it had access to a social club either on site or adjacent. Stayed a couple of times early 90's.

I wonder why so many racecourse sites have shut?  I stayed at Thirsk, last year.  It was very adequate for the price, very handy for the town centre and surrounding areas and I would definitely stay their again. I was hoping to try Cheltenham and Warwick Sites this year but for various reasons, never made it so they are on the agenda for next year.

I remember Breakspear Way, Hemel Hempstead.  Stayed there a number of times, as OH used to have to go to meetings there a couple of times a year.  I used to go into London for the day from there, it was very convenient for that, good transport links, very close to the M1, and surprisingly quiet considering where it was.

That's another one I missed off my list! I am not sure if it had anything to do with the closure of that site but there was a massive fire in an oil storage depot very close to the site?

Hexham, Fakenham and Market Rasen still have campsites, and are still going strong as far as I know. We certainly had a great time up at Hexham a couple of years ago. Wincanton was a sad loss, we loved it there, but I think it might have been a Jockey Club decision rather than a Club one🤔

Warwick is a smashing Site, 10 minutes easy stroll into centre, which is a nice interesting place. Great walks and cycling direct from Site, including lots of canal paths. We like being on the rails on the HS at Warwick with our little MH, it’s popular with MHs/campers, as it’s close by some main holiday routes, but there’s lots to see nearby, including Gaydon Motor Museum.

We haven’t stayed at Cheltenham, friends have, they didn’t like it. We do love Exeter Racecourse, in our top three Club Sites. (I had the Strava “local legend fastest circuit on a bike” award at one time😁🤣🤣)  Back in the 1980’s the racecourses were know as Trax AS sites.

From memory Cheltenham Racecourse is a great place to stay especially with its easy access to public transport and you can walk to the steam railway. The only issue is that the pitches are not that level, depending where you pitch. An alternative is Briarfields on the other side of the town with good bus services into town or to Gloucester.

We stayed at HH on the way home one year. Just for the night. It was handy and a shame it's no longer available. Cheltenham literally is a Car Park. Great views and a P&R is walkable nearby but otherwise soulless. Thirsk turns into a Car Park on racedays when everyone has to move into the centre of the course so check your racedays before staying

Didn't know Uttoxeter was earmarked for closure.  Stayed there once some years ago and, to be honest, I wasn't that keen.... didn't like the 'closed gate restrictions' on race days.
