I hope your OH is doing ok Goldie, two not very nice incidents. We are learning to manage the perils of older age as well, joint pains, things that suddenly don’t work like they should, but you can’t do much about the unexpected accidents.

Nice day yesterday, plenty of sunshine for classic car show, some lovely vehicles as well. We took MH, so had a nice picnic meal out.

Decided to watch Men’s Elite Road Race on catch up last night. What a race! Scotland looked absolutely wonderful on the helicopter and drone shots, the race itself was excellent. Not usually a fan of city circuit racing, but it was superb around Glasgow. Drama right up to the very last lap, and a wonderful end result. Crowds were huge as well.

Lovely warm and sunny here today. We are hoping our postponed trip might happen this week🤞

Lucky people who can take pain relief meds. I'm not allowed anything stronger than paracetamol. Ibuprofen's a no-no. I thought diclofenac had some bad reports suggesting it may result in some cancers if taken for a long period.

Rufs - Following my Stroke I had an inflation of my right wrist and it was almost locked. It affected any rehab I was doing for my fingers. Just at the end of January a chance remark by a neighbour suggested Arnica Gel as he knew I couldn't take meds. I was sceptical but gave it a go.Within 2 weeks the swelling had reduced significantly and within 1 month had gone. This is why my finger rehab has been delayed but I now have fingers not sausages on my right hand. It genuinely worked.

The ladies escaped to Ruthin this morning, mainly for OH to take her mother to a craft shop there and also it's a lovely run from our home. They enjoyed themselves and MiL still managed to find a clothes shop to spend some money in.

I went to Tesco and then went back into town to take some of the books we have decided can go to a Hospice charity shop. Just the first instalment of about 50 books.

Every Christmas we used to sell hundreds of Foot Spas, I often wondered what happened to them. I just imagine every loft in the country has a Foot Spa tucked away in corner, unused and unloved? When you went to large exhibitions in the likes of Earls Court they used to have those chairs with foot massagers which were meant to relax the back of the legs. A pleasant sensation but I suspect no long term good?

The problem with pain killers is the longer you take them they more the body gets used to them and the less effective they become. Putting aside any other long term damage they can also do. So probably not a good idea to take them all the time but have periods of rest between taking them. Especially those that reduce inflammation. They should start to do their job within a week and have calmed the inflammation within two. There are other remedies between sessions. I find an ice pack on my knee works well for immediate relief but it is not long lasting. When I was in hospital having my hip replacement the (older) guy next to me had obviously had a knee replacement. The Physios were have great difficulty getting him to bend the knee. They put a large ice filled cuff around the knee to provide some relief but it was an uphill struggle. I assume they must have sorted him out eventually?

I’m the same Wherenext, nothing but Paracetamol.  When I had my hip replacement the hospital gave me something as a painkiller after the operation, I wasn’t asked if I wanted it, they just assumed I did.  I was away with the fairies and felt pretty bad.  I said afterwards I can only take Paracetamol but they still said I will need something stronger.  In fact I was fine with Paracetamol it wasn’t desperately painful, just uncomfortable at times. Doctors do seem to want to give out medication, not always required sometimes.  OH takes an occasional Naproxen for his knees.

Well my blood isn’t at boiling point yet even though we’ve had 24 hours without rain, that’s the first time in nearly 3 weeks.  The temperature got to the giddy height of 18C, still it was nice to feel the sun on my back.  Went to the Mach Loop today and after 4 previous failures managed to film 4 x Hawk T2. Came over at about 250 feet and 500 mph

Better day today, more gardening done. The big cotoneaster bush that I've been wanting taken out for years is now finally gone. OH had a hell of a job getting the roots out but I think it should be ok. I plan to re plant the bed it was in with more interesting plants.

Our young next-door neighbours are back after their weekend away at Loch Lomond. They have a big air tent and have been getting good use of it this year. They were away with his parents who have a caravan. The young ones had taken up paddle boarding and their children are joining in. Last year we offered up our full wetsuits which we no longer use, luckily they fit them both well and they were very happy, so much so that our female neighbour came running outside, jumping up and down shouting "it fits it fits" she also has my shorty now. I cant see that I will ever go back to scuba diving and if I did I would need a bigger suit surprised

Think we are going to get another couple of nice days, I will crack on with my garden and OH will work on the MH once the new air suspension and shock absorbers arrive.

Paracetamol doesn't really do a lot for me other than reduce a fever when I get a cold. if I need pain relief I take Co Codamol.

TDA, have a good trip and let us know if the CS lives up to expectations.

DK, I have a Foot Spa (a gift one christmas) I do use it especially during summer when I tend to wear sandals and flip flops. keeps the feet nice and soft (and clean) eldest granddaughter always gets it out when she is here and expects me to give her a pedicure.

When I had my hip replaced I woke up from the operation with a Morphine pump attached to the back of my left hand! I don't know whether that is still standard practise? I think the idea would be so that the patient can self administer, at least up to a point, so the nursing staff don't have to get too involved with pain relief. If that's what you had it could well have had that impact on you! I was sent home with a box of Codeine tablets but I don't recall asking for more than those given to me. With hips once the operation heals you tend not to get a lot of pain especially compared with what you experienced prior to the operation. I think knees might be different. When, in the past I have discussed pain killers with my Doctor he always says there is no problem with Paracetamol as its safe for pregnant ladies to take so its safe for you!!! I think he meant only if you take the recommended dose! You would have thought that in this day and age someone would have invented an effective painkiller that was safe to use by all regardless of other conditions.

Another fine day, high cloud and sunshine on and off. We had a walk this morning up Picnic Mountain,  the regenerated spoil tip from the old Hefod colliery. Then restocked at Aldi in Ruabon before returning to do another round of washing, which again dried outside, the wind and sunshine helping a lot.

Lodge Farm Nellie. Just North of Spofforth, easy run to Harlow Carr from there. It apparently has good showers and loos, but no hook ups, hence £15 per night. Site has some good reviews, very pleasant and helpful when I phoned. We are finding this a good set up for us, as we need and use little in the way of electrics in the Summer. Devices charged while on the move, plus we carry small recharge packs. We decided it would be cheaper than stopping at a free pub, as we end up having a meal🤣 Might do Harewood as a second day out🤔

I had my hip replacement 18 months ago David and I didn’t have a morphine pump but perhaps they had given me a dose while I was waking up?  They did keep thinking I needed more pain relief but I wasn’t in pain as such just discomfort from the operation site.  I had mine done in a private hospital, on the NHS, and staff were appearing every hour or so to ask questions and do ‘obs’, they were very good.  I was also sent home with a box of something but I never went near and it was sent to chemist for disposal.  A friend of ours had a knee replacement a short while before we moved and that went well for her, I think she had the second knee done a few years later and also one hip.  She must have had a successful outcome as her Christmas letter said she was keeping up with her 10,000 a day step count.

tks for the tip WN, right now i am finding that a daily dip in the Solent is proving quite theraputic, and i cycle down which keeps my knees revolving which is good, now that we do not have a dog i do not walk much, OH craving for another pooch but since her stroke November gone she is having difficulty with her balance and i am frightened that a dog may pull her over. I still take Tramadol as a pain killer, only occasionally if really bad and i still get this on perscription had this since my knees first started playing up, not seen a doctor for probably 4 years now but the surgery just sign of my script for Ibuprofen and Tramadol and yet they cxld my OH's energy drink which was perscribed by the Stroke unit, apparently there is no money left in the budget for food suplements, i can buy them at reasonable cost on Amazon so no big shakes really.

was a bit grey out this morning but much warmer, washing day, change the bed linen, my pet hateyell

Weather quite good in and around Keswick, always love seeing Hope Park, nice before the crowds descend.

Good luck with other holidays, I think there is a definite break in the clouds!

Nellie, we've used Ruabon tiles on several kitchen floors.

Hope you enjoy the CL TDA. Our recent CS at Knott End was called Bluebell Cottage, £16 10amp, two shower rooms, washing facs etc. 3/4 acre with 5 hardstanding for vans and grass for tents.

At last! Yesterday we got he new mowers out and managed to cut the remaining fields in the dry. Spirits are slightly down this morning as it rained in the night, but the plan is to starting picking up the grass about dinner time.

Photos of two shiny new MF mowers in the yard and field (front and back - does the job in twice the time!).

We like that area around where you are Nellie. We had an overnight stay when we took Mum and Sis to Wales a few years ago. Stayed in a lovely village called Hamner, pub did great food, and had very nice rooms with a beautiful garden. We hope to go back, and see if we can overnight with MH, but eat in the pub. Be great as part of a tour.

I have to say that watching the land being worked is one of lifes pleasures, but how things have changed since I went bale stacking for my Uncle in the 1970's.

Mechanisation really has come on leaps and bounds.

In the winter our dinning room is rarely warm which for most of the day is OK but when we are eating in there it could be a bit more comfortable. It only has a single panel radiator which I suspect is not man enough for the job so I decided to order a double radiator to replace it. I found one of the Screwfix website and placed an order for next day delivery, that was over a week ago now! I did email them but no response so today decided to ring them thinking I would be holding on the phone for hours before it was my turn. As it turn out my call was immediately picked up and I explained the problem. The guy said leave it with me. True to his work he got back to me about an hour later and told me there had been a problem at the warehouse and he had cancelled the original order and done a new one which should arrive tomorrow. We wait and see! I could have just picked one up at a local branch but it is a bit heavy for Margaret and I get it in the car, hence the delivery.

Raining again most of the day today and I could do with some sun and breeze to dry the washing. Granddaughter was staying with a friend but had to come back early as taken poorly and two ambulance rushes to A&E, she has brought a load of washing with her plus I have bedding to wash. She has a hospital appointment tomorrow but for another problem. That will be fun as she accidentally left her blue badge at her friends, OH will now drive us and then park up, which should help.

My cousin and her husband and us have been planning a trip to Yorkshire since before covid but what with that and then some illness for them it has never been booked, until yesterday. So we are now booked in for next June to stay at a farm near Thirsk. Then I have booked for the following week for me and OH to go on to our usual lovely little B&B in the Lake District, So looking forward to it already. Enjoying your photos of Keswick Brue, we will spend a day there next year.

I have a heart condition and was told ages ago not to take one type of painkiller, problem is I can never remember which one, so I always just stick to paracetamol, fortunately it seems to do the job.

Brue, when we go to Keswick on the way out we always visit Castlerigg standing stones. OH loves it up there, it’s like a little pilgrimage for us. We love standing up there and looking at the hills all around, it is a special place.

My must do visit at The Lakes is to walk around Tarn Howes. I was just sad last time to see how many trees had been torn down in the gales, maybe replanting has been started now.

And our favourite meal out is always at The Tower Bank Arms, next door to Beatrix Potters house and featured in her books.

Glad you all had a good day, and that the weather stayed good.  We visited Llangollen earlier in the year when we stayed at Lady Margaret's Park, Chirk.  Haven't been to Valle Crucis Abbey and Horseshoe Falls, though, for years.  Must visit them again when we are up tbat way.

Weather here in Winchester has been a bit dull and showery, but we are expecting better for tomorrow - our last day, before returning home on Thursday for a 'quick visit'.
