Very regular showers, some quite heavy, today. Shopping this morning and more wardrobe, cupboards etc sorting this afternoon. Mrs WN keeps finding bags in her wardrobe. Not many finding their way into charity bags I have noted. Wait until garage needs doing!

Feels like a day for some kind of stew, maybe a SpagBol.

Hope you can arrange a Blue Badge for Mr.H Millie.

I sorted out my shoe drawers last week and put some out for the charity shop, moaned at OH that he should do the same. I then found a bag of his ready to go but by then the 4 pairs I had put out had dwindled into 1 pair, the other 3 I had put back - just in case I might need them! I’m not much better with clothes, I sort old stuff out but then, as I make rag rugs, I think, ‘that’s nice material for a rug’ and it goes into my material bag back into the bottom of the wardrobe.

Was about to go out and get on with some gardening but it’s come over very black and now raining again.

bureaucracy gone wild, i applied to renew our bus passes 2 weeks ago Hampshire county council said i did not need to provide new photographs  as they could reuse old ones which were only 3 years old, it took 5 working days for new passes to arrive in post, same council issuing blue badge cant use same photo as used on bus pass for blue badgeyelltoday my OH had a check up appointment at the Stroke unit, due to some emergencies we were there 5 hours, at a cost of £8.20 for parking, if we had had the blue badge it would have cost us nothing, little wonder people hang on to them even if they dont need them any more, i think they are valid for 3 years, I will be hanging on to ours OH is walking and driving but has problems pushing shopping trollies, carrying shopping etc so being able to park nearer to places she uses will be a big advantage.

much better day, off swimming to calm down a little, spending 5 hours waiting for a 10 minute appointment is not my idea of fun, but i appreciate out there somebodys needs were greater than ours and similar probably happened when OH was admitted.

If we had an MSP that was any use I would agree with you, chocolate teapot springs to mind.

We've often seen folk hanging onto blue badges after they are no longer required, disgraceful. It took my father 3 goes to get his badge back in 1988, he could barely walk unaided but was proud so struggled to do so at the test. It was his GP who said stop being proud and struggle, hang onto the walk, you need a badge.

TDA, haven't forgot about posting a photo of the cushion. I've done another one now so will borrow OHs phone to post (mine doesn't work on here)

Dry day so far, yesterday not as forecast thankfully but weekend doesn't look good and we have a wedding to go to on Saturday😔

Still not been away in the MH between working in the garden and house, the weather being rubbish, I think we may wait now until the Scottish kids go back to school. Sites will be less busy as will the roads.

The A9 north of Perth is now fully open both sides both lanes, still 40mph speed restriction but they are ahead of schedule for the cross Tay link 😀

Not going anywhere tomorrow as the UCI cycling is taking place all around us. Never seen so many foreign cars and people as we have this week. Cyclist's everywhere, I hope they are enjoying our Scottish summer.

OH busy looking into a new alarm system for the house. Think I may brave the garden for an hour.

Most envious TG, we would have been up there for Worlds had we got the chance. Always huge crowds, free event are the road races. We stood out in a deluge so bad they had to change the route here in Yorkshire a few years ago. All to see a couple of minutes of top class riders roll through. But it’s great fun, a spectacular sight. Worlds don’t happen often and I know it will inconvenience some, but Scotland has given the World some fantastic cyclists, so good to see top class events on home soil.😁

    Agree with you there Ttda.

We found ourselves on a campsite at the foot of the Col du Tourmalet one year when the TdF passed by. It was the year of Marco Pantani. We watched the peloton pass by chasing 2 in the breakaway before heading down into Luz-St.-Saveur to watch the finish in a bar.

Great experience especially watching so many amateurs attempt the route the day after.

Yes, nephew in law has done the Tourmalet, and Alpe de Huez. We have had an enjoyable evening watching World Champs in Velodrome on TV. Some brilliant and exciting finishes. It’s on BBC3, good coverage with Chris’s Hoy and Boardman. Great that the Paracyclist races are held at same time.

We have had another fine day here, and took a drive over to Lake Vyrnwy this morning. We were surprised  just how quiet the roads were and  only the Alltforgan car park was busy. We did the Dam Walk from the visitors  centre before lunch, and then drove round the Lake, stopping for Flyte and I to walk up to Pistyll Rhyd-y-meinciau waterfall.

Sorry to hear that others have had heavy rain again. Pleased to read that your van is watertight  once more, R&R, and ready for collection.

Thanks nth - now safely back home.  Left the house at 6.30 yesterday and was back home by just before 2.00pm. That said - even though the traffic wasn't too bad once I had cleared the A64 around York, 300 miles and over 6 hours driving isn't something I want to repeat too often!

Dealership were very good - strictly speaking, I owed them £300 for them collecting it on Sunday (they charge £1 per mile!) but the Service Manager said that since they had messed me about so much over the fitting of the Omnistor - to forget itsmile. Service like that is one of the reasons I stick with them, even though they are so far away.

Arrived at New Forest Centenary CAMC site this afternoon, for a few days.  Weather tomorrow not looking too promising sadly.... strong winds and showers.. ☹️.  We had such a lovely June, but since we've been away, the weather has, at best, been 'mixed'..

Been a good day here in Glasgow weather wise.

Left home before 8am to take a second load of logs to DS in Ayrshire.  Then to DD to help her with collecting an item she had secured on Freecycle.

OH stayed home and did washing and drying using power from our roof, was very hot in our south facing sun room.

A LOT of disruption on the roads due to this cycle thing.   Sat for 25 minutes on Clydeside Expressway just after 8am, for no obvious reason, road was not  closed, no warnings posted.  Sport is one thing, disruption to the rest of us is not however acceptable IMO.  No idea why there was such a hold up.

People here are trying to go on holiday, and going about their lives,  but being seriously affected.

We have found that  Glasgow  Council are keen on having filming and other things such as this happening here, but do not care how inconvenienced the residents are.

Earlier this year DD had to endure 3 days when she was not allowed to drive to her own house as the road was all closed off to allow BBC or similar to film in the street, and fill it with their vehicles as they were using a house in her street as a location.    No doubt the house owner was being handsomely paid for the use of their property, but the rest of the residents were just ignored, and inconvenienced.

No, Kjell, but fairly close by, we were at Powys Castle. I can recommend the CL we are on, full serviced pitches, good access and a view. The only down side is the Wi-Fi reception for our MiFi is rather poor, only working in the late evening, although there is site Wi-Fi for an extra charge. Great value this year at £18 pn.... The Vine Touring Park😊

And another fine day, better than forecast. Drove across to Nesscliffe Hill Counrty Park where we walked up to the Hill Fort and Olivers Point before lunch. Then round to Knaystor's Cave and over the sandstone quarries  afterwards. Called into Llanymynech to view the Hoffman Lime Kiln on the way back to the van. OH was able to get a round of washing done and dried by 6:30 before  the sun disappeared. Unfortunately  the forecast  is not good for tomorrow.

good old English weather, it is the local Wickham Festival this weekend, a scaled down Glastunbury, but as a result of previous rain the fields used for parking, camping and the main arena are very wet and very smelly. Daughter and SIL went on Thursday to erect tent etc they report that approx 1k vehicles stuck in the parking field all of which will probably need towing out on Monday, today we have storm Antonio, not as bad as forecast just yet but it is raining to add to the woes, such a shame, but village was buzzing yesterday so hopefully the local shops have seen some trade.

Looks like a stay at home reading day, Club magazine arrived yesterday so lots to read undecided, and i now need to write our life story in the hope that we will get a Blue Badge, received email requesting new photo, now received 2nd email requesting more info, unfortunately the discharge papers from hospital in Spain have been lost, not sure how relevant these would be now and in any case due to data protection laws if we want new documents my OH will have to go to hospital in Spain in person, the joys, might just succumbe and give up, however, when OH attended hospital this week we had to park miles away from part of hospital we needed so had to use the wheelchair and it was hard for me to push the wheelchair up & down ramps etc, although i consider myself to be reasonably fit, since having both knees replaced walking for me is not great, cycling & swimming are ok, non impact so all good.

cut the grass and did some pruning yesterday before the weather turned today

You don't seem to be a very good advertisement for knee surgery? Am I clearly mistaken in thinking that replacement knees are as good as replacement hips in that you should be pain free and be able to walk normally? I have problems in both my knees now but funnily enough the last Physio I saw suggested putting off surgery until absolutely necessary, mind you I am not sure what absolutely necessary means! Most of my discomfort is at rest rather than moving. Met an ex colleague in Waitrose yesterday and she is having a knee replacement next Wednesday but she is paying for it to be done privately, funnily enough by the same surgeon that did my hip. So I assume she must be fairly desperate?

Appalling weather here this weekend. It was a series of deluges yesterday and I seemed to get caught in most of them every time I tried to go out. Today is permanent heavy rain. We were supposed to be going to Peckover House today with son and family but that has been cancelled and we are going over to theirs for a Chinese meal later.  In the meantime I have loads of paperwork I need to sort out and dispose of - I have been putting if off for ages and I think I might still be procrastinating by being on here!

Such rotten weather for those of you on holiday. I hope you are managing to keep dry. It must be a nightmare for those with children. Trying to keep them amused can be very expensive.

New addition to the family yesterday after much discussion between us all.

Just have to come up with a name. So, what do other members call their Air Fryer?laughing

MiL can't now reach the smaller top oven, where the grill is also sited and therefore when cooking for herself will heat up the large oven, say for a baked potato. Now have to train her, as well as ourselves!smile

Think everyone getting some rain and wind today. Good luck to those away.

Got to be “Frier Tuck” surely🤣

Our Jeep has a new nickname, “Das Boot”. Wranglers are notorious for the roof area around the removable roof panels leaking, ours had been fine up to this last month, but I think the seals have gone. So it’s a bit damp in the footwells if it slopes in the wrong direction. Drain plugs in footwells, so it’s not terminal, but carpets get a bit wet. We have a temporary fix, a rain sheet to cover car, but OH has sourced a proper fix in the States. Deep joy will be finding out how much HM Gov fleeces us on import taxes………meanwhile, it’s up periscope!🤣

It will be worth every penny WN, we now have one at home and one in the static van. Our oven isn’t often used now. And the one at the van saves us a lot on gas bottles. As no frying is involved I think it’s a deceptive name though, it put me off getting one for a while, Air Oven might be better.

OH out all day yesterday so I got more gardening done. He went with our daughter for her pre op many miles away. She has been waiting for 2 years on the NHS for another back operation, she had a fusion 11 years ago, which worked well. But for the last 2 years she has been unable to walk almost at all, using an electric wheelchair and doped up on morphine for the pain. Few Drs can do the op she needs. She has been told that she could be waiting at least another year or more. Hearing this her daughters set up a Go Fund me page and organised two fund raising events, also her village community, where she has lived for years, gave generously. We have agreed to fund the lion share though. Fingers very crossed that it works, and that her family life can get better, also that she is then able to help more with our poorly granddaughter. From booking date to op was just 2 weeks, we are so glad it is being done but it does seem rather unfair that it’s so different if you pay rather than use the NHS.

Its blowing a hoolie here along with heavy showers. Just hoping the cooking apples stay on the tree they are not big enough to pick yet. Also rather concerned about the large trees in the wood at the end of our garden, some large branches in full leaf blowing madly.

David, I am not a good advert for Knee surgery, if anything could go wrong with mine it did,

    1. the anaesthetist got it wrong with the epidural squashed a nerve in my back so now i have permanant numbness down my left side including my hands and to less extent down my right side and it feels like i am walking on small stones in my left shoe, of course they will never admit it, they referred me to a very senior back doctor who said he could give me injection to fix, but said the odds were not great 10% to fix 60% to make it worse 30% no change, refused it.

    2. both knees are very stiff and i am in constant, not pain, discomfort, but you learn to live with it after 6 years, i did ask the consultant if he could drill a hole into my leg and then i could squirt in some WD40 at regular intervals, i did ask for a reconstruction but no way were they going to do that, not even privately.

    3. consultant told me that 25 % of knee replacements were not 100 pct successful but they did not know why, but the 25% always seemed to be the people that were the fitest, i would not say i was super fit, but i cycled, walked a lot, keen wild swimmer, i was planning to tackle the Munros, every time i look at my book case the book title glares at me.

I did some research into failures and it was suggested that unlike most EU countries e.g. Denmark, replacement knees in the UK start out as being generic, so you go into operating theatre and the consultant says ah! yes size 9 takes it from the shelf and then proceeds to make it fit by shaving bits off etc, whereas in Denmark your knee is scanned prior to the operation and each measurement taken and then applied to a replacement knee more or less tailor made for you.

but having said all of that, i was at the stage where i could almost not walk so replacement for me was the only option, back then you only waited 3 months tops so although i thought of going private £14k was a lot of money. I have lots of friends who have had knee and hip replacement and they think they are wonderful, guess i was just unlucky

My knees are embalmed with ibuprofen Gel, i get thru approx 4 tubes per month, they give it me on perscription to keep me happy.

I believe the waiting list is now in excess of 2 years and to keep pace they are almost doing the operation as day surgery, so when you leave the operating theatre the physio is there waiting to put you thru hell, that must be painful, the hardest part is getting your leg straight but if you dont comply they used to have a magic machine which they put on your leg that stretches out your leg, i have heard people screem when this is used.

But "you need to feel the pain to appreciate the gain"

i would at least try to get on the listlaughing

Unbelievable start to our holiday yesterday as I woke up to the pleasant but unusually loud sound of our local flock of sheep, pulled the curtains back to find they were in our garden! Early morning call to farm but they had already been alerted as sheep had been spotted elsewhere.

Finally left home and spent 9 hours on the M5/M6 instead of predicted 5 hours (Taunton to west Lancs coast.) Terrible weather today so can't do intended sight seeing. Move on tomorrow...

Hope things are going better for everyone else!

Blue badge highly recommended for all those that need them, it was a life saver for helping my late Mum, made things so much better for us.

DEBSC - very best of luck. Not been the easiest of times for the family. Disgraceful that a person with a disability is being prejudiced against by the bods that run the NHS. They should be ashamed.
