Advice on open sites France in March

We travel to the south of Spain in March. We used to stay over near Tours at Camping Les Acasias but they don't allow a twin axle caravan. I have struggled to find anything open that time of year. We usually stay over an hour from Calais on the first night, then around the Tours area and from there to Urrugne on the border with Spain. Any advice/suggestions greatly appreciated.

    You could try Camping Tours Val de Loire I think it is part of the "Only Camp Group" used to be open 24x7x365, but if you are going to arrive after i think 1800 hrs you need to ring the site, the guy will give you code for key safe, not sure re TA but pitches are random so should not be a problem, not a brilliant site but ok for overnight or a couple of days.

    Do you need to decide now?  Wait for the new ACSI guide to be published at Christmas  and it will tell you what will be available for next March.

    If you are going to stay the first night an hour or so south of Calais, how about 2nd night at Poitiers it's a bit further on but not much. We stayed there coming north the other year.

    Another recommendation for Poitiers.

    We've also stayed at Camping La Rochet Belle Isle on the way south for 1 night but quite some time ago. It's on the outskirts of Chateauroux. Not sure if its still open all year or even if its still a municipal.

    You could download a couple of apps that list a lot of sites posted by users. They are intended for Motorhomers but they include campsites open to all units.  

    I mainly use Park4Night. It has photos, basic information, usually including opening times, links to campsites websites and quite useful (and entertaining) reviews, which it will translate. Because it’s written by motorhomers you’d need to check the actual website for your tag_axle.  You can specify a route, filter just for campsites, perhaps for rating too to eliminate the dross and it will show all the campsites on your route.

    One suggestion-look at Search for Sites and 'tick' the open all year option.

    A quick look doing this shows 310 sites in France-but also shows La Futuritste has an 8m length limit.

    Good point, but there are also sites which are closed in December and January but are open again in March in time for Easter. For touring in March there is a bigger choice than the Open All Year sites. 

    One of our old favourites Camping Figurotta at Narbonne is one such which re opens on 1st February. - and is useful for people going into Spain via the Mediterranean coast route

    Ive stayed there  twice with my twin axle, on way to Spain and return.However, that was pre lockdown

    By mid March a number of other sites which were closed in winter are opening up.

    For caravanners going down the west side of France Camping le Cadoret at Fouras (a little way south of La Rochelle) is open in the middle of the month and reachable in a day from St Malo ferryport (220 miles) or from Caen (290miles).. Then it’s an easy drive toSpain from there.
