I too have cancelled my membership as of today. Had a week in Torquay area last week on a commercial site and paid £150 for 7 nights, saving £100, facilities comparable to and better than some club sites! Found pitch availability in Haycraft site , Swanage, thirteen nights for £550, booked a commercial site 3 miles away for the same dates and saved £150!. I am not prepared to pay the prices the club are asking. I have only used one club site this year which I booked early to achieve the best price as advised by the club,a month before the holiday the club advertised 20% off the price for that particular site. To get the discount I had to cancel the booking and rebook, the club is in disarray at the moment and offer no loyalty to their members. If I had not seen the offer, I would have paid 20% more than someone making a last minute booking.I will use commercial sites in the future as in my opinion the club is greedy and has lost touch with the membership. I am sure there will be people who have something to say in favour of the club but for me things have gone too far.17 years of membership ended.

Barney, you’ve done the right thing for you. It’s much more creditable to quit CAMC than to hang in there complaining about prices but still paying them as seems to happen so often. 👍🏻

If you read my comment/complaint you will see that the two instances I have mentioned, plus the membership fee,has saved myself in excess of £300! You and anyone else who wants to pay grossly overinflated prices are free to do what they want , wether it be down some country lane or not. I choose not to waste my hard earned cash when there are very suitable alternatives.

Quite right, Barney. We are each able to choose the path that suits us best. I have never once complained about site prices or even called them overpriced but many people do yet still remain members and continue to pay site fees. That doesn’t make sense to me which is why I commend you for voting with your wheels.

Exactly the route I have taken, and only quoted 2 instances. The money I will have saved this year only justifies my decision. If commercial sites can operate at more competitive prices, that only means one thing to me. I hope the club gets a grip on reality and changes tack. I am not alone in my way of thinking and can no longer see any benefit in staying with the club. I have met many lovely people through this club, but my desicion is final.
