Very hot here in the Charente region of France, yesterday it reached 32c in the afternoon.
Took a drive over to Royan, Palais sur Mer and St George's hoping it would be cooler on the coast, it wasn't. Very busy in all 3 places, we had lunch at a nice beachside restaurant, then an hour on the beach sat in the shade of some rocks. To hot to spend more time there as no breeze.
Yesterday I reached 3 score years and 10 😉
Back at the site it was a little cooler as a breeze was coming off the river and with the trees scattered around the site plenty of shade could be found. Only thing missing on this site is a pool but I think it would change the feel of the place. Lovely nice and quiet (well it was until 1 particular Frenchman turned up) why do some folk think everyone wants to hear their conversations 😡
Washing done this morning all hung out and now dry. Think we will have a bit of lunch then go out on the bikes at 2pm when the ferryman returns from lunch. It looks like the Frenchman is in for an afternoon of entertaining (again)
Next stop I'll de Re. Good to read of others travels and that the weather is good for the holiday weekend.

Belated birthday greetings Tammygirl! 🥂 Sounds very pleasant where you are staying. Nicely warm here, no rain in sight, just enjoying the garden after a walk.
Good to hear everyone's trips out, enjoying the photos too.
After all the travel delays down here Debsc I expect it was a tranquil run home..I think a night in student quarters would have tested anyone over a certain age.
Hope you've mastered the car DK, it's a case of remembering which "dials" to set and press. I often have to do a flight check!

Francis, we really enjoyed D&G last year. We rode our bikes across to Portpatrick on a very rainy day, we ended up sat eating our lunch with another couple in the lovely little Bowls Club pavilion. It did eventually stop😁 First time for us on Mull of Galloway, but we would go back, loved Logan Botanic Gardens.
WN, glad you got back home ok👍 I have just got an umbrella for Mum’s garden, too hot without one. Hope MIL liked her earrings👍

David, that sounds like pretty normal behaviour for a keyless entry car. The convenient way of locking/unlocking is to leave the key fob in your pocket and use the small button or pressure pad in the door handle. The same goes for the tailgate. The fob has to be in close proximity to the car for this to work so that’s why your tailgate will not unlock when the fob is in your house.
With keyless entry, you only need use the buttons on the fob if something goes amiss with the handle buttons.

DavidKlyne hope you're enjoying your new car. I love the electric handbrake, ours came back once with the auto apply off 😱. I'd not noticed immediately so it was disconcerting! Luckily no hills locally. Keyless is great if you keep the key in a Faraday pouch indoors. And remember to remove them from a pocket before washing clothes!
Busy week, by our normal standards so chilling for a day or 2. Good family day. Time to prepare for Kiwi friend visit. Great few days, very restful almost like a holiday, weather played ball too. Bad news is I should have visited physio a couple of weeks before, but procrastination ruled 😡. We did lots of walking and I'm now at the physio on Thursday!
Been warm and cloudy but sun coming out now and it's very warm, umbrella needed.

Ttda, OH only unpacked them last night. MiL declared that " Regal Purple is so my colour!"
You've got to laugh, haven't you? She sends her thanks. We measured her today as OH was sure she has shrunk. Now a full 4'9" but we think she was standing on tip toes.To both of you she fully appreciated the Parasol (she doesn't "do" sun umbrellas!) but now wants a table to go with it and one with a hole that will fit her wine glass in so she doesn't spilll any.
Thankfully we escape again on Sunday.

"How many times do you see dogs on beaches where they are forbidden?"
Very rarely where they are actually "forbidden" as a matter of fact. Although many non dog owners may not be familiar with specific rules for beaches such as Perranporth for example where the only restrictions are in July/August when dogs are allowed near the town, but on a lead during daytime (10 till 5 I think) and unrestricted further away from town. And, interestingly, at Fistral Beach, Newquay, one of the most popular beaches in the country, there are no restrictions at all.
(Not denying, of course, that there are a small number of owners who take no notice of prominent signage, but it's much more common to sea folk in the sea, ignoring the flags so carefully placed in safe areas by the lifeguards!).

"absolutely" but rules are imposed much more rigorously over there, on some beaches they have police helicopters that patrol up and down the beach if they spot an illegal they radio to the shore patrol who are are on the scene within minutes, in general over there rules are broken during the early part of the season when beaches are fairly quiet whoich is understandable, same applies to the UK, did not see anybody breaking the rules today, in fact the beach was very quiet considering it was such a beautiful day, this was the beach looking towards LOTS approx 1 hour ago, tide was coming in so just right for swimming

We live in a fairly quiet cul de sac, two children one side and a little girl the other, rarely hear them just occasional pleasant kiddie chatter in the garden, helped by a little park just a few doors down where the 2 older kids play with their friends. The lady next door but one very occasionally, has her daughter, son in law and 2 grandsons visit and stay. Today we saw them arrive and we sighed, we knew what was coming, It’s been bedlam, rarely heard kids shout so much, we’ve closed the windows, next door were sitting out but we saw them retreat indoors. Thank goodness it’s only about twice a year for a week or so, and thank heavens we don’t have to live near them. Our neighbour is a quiet lady, feel sorry for her but I suppose she is just pleased to see them. Grumpy of Devon.

Happy 70th TG from us as well.
Got to 30.2C today although a lot of heavy cloud about this afternoon and did hear thunder but no rain and could see some places were getting the rain and just seen on TV that even Monaco has had rain today for the Grand Prix, just hope it improves for a week today when we got away not too far away for 5 night break as OH has got service and CT on his car from 12th for 3 days.
Sorting a bit of sewing today as I had earache last night and today seems to have eased off now thankfully just takes me back to when I used to have earache a lot when very young, hence a quiet day, may go to a local boot sale tomorrow plus classic cars etc will see hat the weather is like in the morning.

I'll wait with bated breath! But just make sure (a) you understand whether dogs are "forbidden" completely or just on certain parts at certain times (b) you name the beaches and (c) you do an accurate count (not just "loads of dogs".) Photographic evidence would also help back up your claims!

You have my sympathy !!! my daughter has a swimming pool in their back garden this coupled together with 3 very noisy teenagers & their friends, creates a noise that is beyond belief, i find it quite embarrasing when we are visiting, normally daytime/early eveing, but sometimes they are having pool parties until quite late in the evening, i feel for the neighbours, they must be willing for summer to end

Agree M, some of the restrictions are time or zone related, so to non dog owners, might not be immediately obvious. We always comply, but we tend to use beaches away from crowds anyway. Happy to leave popular beaches to families in the main. It is hard on local dog owners, but I think a lot of places operate sensible options during peak holiday times.

Tda, I thought you had posted before that you had been, and to Abbey Dore, which we have a miss to this time. Both of the other churches are worth a visit, as are quite a number more around here. Kilpeck is special, and a close examination off the gargoyles is a must. Should you, WN, or anyone visit look for the "Sheela Na Gig"!!

Hi all, back now from Bavaria where the Concorde mechanics have attended to ALL my requests ,plus some !! Being as i went out on a one way tunnel fare (not knowing length of repairs etc ) i got three rerturn prices Not used ferries for MANY years , prices ,tunnel over £400/DFDS £288/Irish ferries £184.20. .SO I.F it was !! Oh !! BUT ,now i know why i use the tunnel in preference !! Noise ,, screaming kids/uncontrolled ,, swearing parents .Maybe it's an age thing ,BUT but !!

On the question of dogs and beaches I get annoyed by the other side of the coin. Can someone explain to me - why - when there are prominent signs all over our beaches here in Hornsea - banning dogs from certain parts of the beach between May and September - do the families - usually with lots of screaming kids - and who obviously dislike dogs - plonk themselves right in the middle of the one beach were dogs ARE allowed and then start yelling and screaming when the dogs come snuffling around them looking for any little snacks that might be around!
Rant over - but it really annoys me (and that's the polite version!).

It's been a strange week. OH received notification of 2 appointments - one at Addenbrookes and one at our local hospital, PCH. Both of them while we will be away. They came by text and email and OH doesn't 'do' either so rather than me having to deal with everything I found phone numbers for him to ring. Addenbrooks was fine spoke to the consultant's secretary who said she had already sent out a letter and checked the address - it was for the CMC site at Sandringham!! Many years ago on one of our visits there OH wasn't very well and was referred to the GP surgery in Dersingham who obviously put the site down as his temporary address but how Addenbrooks got hold of it goodness knows. All sorted now letter now received with appointment for after we get back. OH rang PCH and spoke to someone who said they could cancel the appointment but could only make a note of his unavailable dates and pass them on. I have now received a text telling us that OH's appointment has been cancelled and OH has received a letter in the post confirming the appointment that had been cancelled. No sign of a new appointment.
As well as all of this OH has had one his chest infections. The antibiotics seem to be doing their job luckily as we go away to Norfolk on Saturday for 2 weeks. We are already armed with another lot of antibiotics 'just in case'. Our surgery was very good.Happy 70th birthday TG. I hit that milestone a few years ago. I hope you had a good celebration. Are you having celebrations with your family after you get home? You are in one of our very favourite parts of France. We spent many happy times at St Georges and made many good friends some of whom we are still in contact with.

Millie - has your friend been able to get in touch with the Cinnamon Trust yet about dog walking?
If not there might be a local group who would offer to walk the dog with theirs - might be worth looking on the local Facebook group? (Mrs M's suggestion, I don't use the F word! )
We are finally off to Northern Ireland next weekend, a long time in the planning! 5 days based in the centre of Belfast right next door to the cathedral. Going to do all the touristy things - Titanic, Samson & Goliath, city tour, Windsor Park hopefully for a picture with George Best, Cyprus Avenue (of Van Morrison fame) and have booked a trip to Giant's Causeway and Glens of Antrim. If you can think of any other unmissable sites it'd be good to have suggestions - it's going to be a packed schedule!

Tough times milliehull, sent my OH to daughters this weekend in EG thought she needed some girlie time, grandaughter fell off trampoline yesterday and has broken her arm just under the humerous...just what she needed not ....
getting boring now, another glorious day, was going to get the mower out but everywhere so peaceful I cannot bring myself to disturb it, looks like some reading on the sunbed, have done my morning bike ride so will not feel guilty, must say the blosom on some of the trees is now tremendous

We are probably just as much annoyed (if not more so) than you about dog owners who don't/won't/can't keep their dogs under control. From what I can make out, though, it does seem to be more of a problem where you spend your holidays than where we do!

It’s along the lines of certain areas of countries have Dogs roaming free, not the Dogs fault but unfair on others that some folk have such disrespect for both the Dogs & their neighbours, it is quite sad😕
