It would be interesting, following your dummy booking for a grass pitch with a MH on the C&CC site, whether a CAMC site, which offers grass pitches, would have the same result.  I know what you mean though, when we had MHs, we wouldn't want to be on grass if it looked dubious.

I must be more tight-fisted than you wink when I saw the price of £30.10 for Chapel Lane I just wondered about the cost of a C&CC site, as they offer a discount for over 60s.  Didn't take long to find an altrnative at less than half the price for what we needed; as explained upthread no EHU needed, so cheaper still as CAMC don't offer pitch without EHU.

I hope you will be able to go abroad later in the year AD.

Having seen complaints about pricing I believe the club thinks it is Tui or Jet2 with its pricing policy and not a members club. But I am afraid it is all falling on deaf ears.

Have you been there before nellie?   OH is a bit worried about possible road noise.

Sorry but I have to disagree with you on this, what about the rallies and events put on by the members for the members. Isn't that the definition of a members club.

    Kj

We went some years ago and noted in my site report that there was some day time traffic noise but quieter at night. http://www.davidklyne.co.uk/chipping_norton_ccc_site.html Most of the hardstandings, but not all, are a bit further away from the A361 than the grass pitches. Google Earth gives to a good impression of the layout.

Isn't speculative booking the reason that the Club gave for bringing in deposits and what has turned out to be a "booking experience" that a lot of people are very unhappy with, for many reasons?

The good old days, that's what I'm harping on about. The days before you bought a clapped out parcel van, threw a mattress and a slab of lager in it and ruined it for everyone, prices, standards etc etc. Come on you do gooders let's have it

Ah the good old days, what happened to them wink

I think on this thread we've learnt that many sites, club or non club are much less busy than usual. I presume bookings for the spring holiday week will show if there's more uptake?

There are alternatives as others have said..

I personally think CAMC boxed too clever early on with higher prices and the "threat" of flexible pricing increasing prices further. The 20p etc overnight individual price rises seem particularly mean spirited and disconcerting. People like consistency, I think?

Now there are offers and reductions but will that save the day for members who have been very patient coping with a wonky new booking web site too?

If CAMC are adopting dynamic pricing the costs per pitch should be dropping right now & will continue until demand is met, if not then they should continue downwards👍🏻

Exactly what I’ve been saying from the start of DP, Rocky. It’ll be commercial suicide if CAMC don’t make the prices match the (lack of) demand.

Mind you, I tend to agree with Brue that CAMC were too hasty in saying prices would rise later. It was clearly ill thought out, even stupid.

Yes, we had a look on Google Earth.  Just hope we do not end up too close to the road as we could only get a grass pitch.

I think they should have thought more about how many members would, out of necessity, react to high inflation and increasing prices before, it seems, just applying large increases and assuming members would all be willing to pay.

They could  have done what many of us are presumably doing, reduce or stop unnecessary spending for a while, such as buying new sites and upgrading existing ones.  Even use some previous years profits to absorb at least some of the hit on electricity prices, instead of loading, in some cases, 2 increases to cover those costs, onto members.

TomSue, In your situation I would book one site at the last minute when you are ready to travel. While you are there you book the second if you are moving on - but if the site you try for is full you choose a different one- it can be  in either Club or privately owned.  And so on stage by stage, one booking after another  instead of trying to put together a whole fortnight before you set off- and without paying all the deposits in advance.  Dare I say it’s the Continental touring model.

Sorry to say but the road noise is horrendous at this site.

We spent 1 night there and never again, it was just 1 continuous noise. Our stay was the 16th June last year, we had the last pitch left on site and the site staff apologised profusely that he couldn't offer us anything else.

We were under huge tall trees right next to the road it never got any light to the pitch at all. The noise from the road was something else, it never let up and when lorries thundered past the MH actually shook, motorbikes were awful.

If at all possible I would look elsewhere, if this is not possible I would contact the site prior to arrival and see what they can do.

Of course they could book stage by stage and I am very sure they know that, but many people, including myself,  prefer to book prior to their tour, so they know for definite where they will be going to and what the next site will be like!

Oh noooo!   OH is very worried now!

She did read all the reviews, but thought it should be OK at night, we will be away from the site all day.

Motorbikes......are they a big problem ?  During the night?

We could try for the CL we used before, we have time to cancel the CCC site, but as we may be getting guests for a meal, we thought it would be better to use a site with facilities.  Our friends were caravanners, but had a seasonal pitch on a site with great facilities, so not used to using on board toilet!

Have you been there before nellie?

Kjell, we have been there before, but a long while ago, but, contrary to TG, I can't remember excessive noise being  problem. I guess we will find out in 2_weeks time, and will let you know if that gives you sufficient time to alter your booking if it is too noisey?

I understand what you mean about convenience pre-deposit days.  We've let C&CC membership lapse a few times in the past and then re-joined.  We do use their club sites from time to time as friends are members, so we can meet up on their sites or 5 van sites.

We may also start thinking about going from Portsmouth after this year, so a new area to research for overnight stops.  Doubt whether it will be a CAMC site though with their eye-watering prices frown

Best wishes, I hope you'll be on the Salamanca at the end of August.

Last booked Clumber Park two years ago in june for 2 weeks price £425 was going to book this year for same two weeks £520 that`s almost £50 per week or £7 per night it`s hard to see where the prices for gas/elec have increased that much.

I notice that quite a massive amount of money 2.000.000 has been spent for our benefit on a site that did not need it in my opinion did you that ? i certainly did not.

As a not for profit club i notice we were not consulted on this,i am reliable informed that only 3 or 4 people at the top of the club have actually used a caravan and these people are spending huge sums of money ( on our behalf ? ) with no consultation to the members.

We wanted to book Hampshire this June for 14 nights to meet up with friends we tried a club site which wanted £520 so i looked at CLs in the area and booked a fully serviced pitch for £326 no brainer really, this site also includes has Holiday Lets etc on an old farm, also includes Showers / Toilets .

MEL60BAR - it's been discussed before but the club does not have to consult members about anything. There are various surveys but that's it. We elect officials to run the club as they see fit. The only power we have is not to use club sites and/or not rejoin.

As always if one finds a better and cheaper site than a club's then book that.

Have you not noticed that in the last 2 years the cost of living in general has escalated dramatically?

Why would members be consulted prior to a refurbishment of a club site when we empower elected members to make decisions for us? It’s clear you haven’t familiarised yourself with the governance of the club.

As for being “reliably informed” about the club’s directors using caravans, that’s pretty unreliable hearsay in my book.

Ultimately, and the crux of the matter, you’ve made the right decision for you and voted with your wallet. 👍

My opinion is that it did need it. The facility blocks in particular were in drastic need of an upgrade and the MH service points an afterthought. All now corrected. At the same time they also installed quite a few service pitches, which it seems given their popularity is what members want.

    +1

I'm not sure is we're talking about the same site but River Breamish was recently upgraded and is only an hour away from us but we never in 24 years ever wanted to go as it was a mainly grass field and nothing wrong with that but not for us. As I recall it always had plenty of pitches available at any time of year.

But now it's all hardstanding with some SPs and if you look at availability it's all lows for next two months for the 71 HS pitches and low for SP till September.

    It's on our booking list.

Yes it’s excellent now with that little enclave of service pitches and all hardstanding. We’ve been a few times. Before the refurb we once ended up on grass and I use the term loosely as it was mainly hard mud. Fortunately it was a dry stay. The last two times we have been the site has been 90% or more full and that’s out of season.
