Maya arrived back at her Manton Bay nest this morning, resulting in 3 Ospreys on the nest until Blue 25 took the hint and departed, probably to her own nest close by.
There are now a pair on the nest at Theaves Castle too, who we may go and try to see next week.

ABM, I guess the nearest Ospreys nests to you will be those in Wales, Llyn Clweydog, Llyn Glaslyn, and Dyfi at Machynlleth, or perhaps Foulshaw Nature Reserve near Kendal, and perhaps at Leighton Moss should any occupy the new nest there. It would save a very long journey up to LG, each of the others being roughly a quarter of the distance!!

A juvenile Scottish Osprey, ringed in Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park, Renfrewshire, on June 23rd 2022, has been photographed "holidaying" in Barbados on 9th March this year, a distance from home of over 4100 mls!!

Also the first of the Kielder Forest Ospreys has returned to her nest. At 11:50 today Mrs YA was seen on her nest, Nest 1A. Her partner, YA, disappeared last July so she may well have to attract a her partner.

Here is another web site worth a look at, Border Ospreys, who's nest is located by the R. Tweed between Jedburgh and Hawick.
The second of the Keilder Ospreys arrived overnight, Next 7's KX7
Also Seren has returned to her Llyn Clywedog nest, the first of the Welsh ones to be seen.

Reunited! At Esthwaite Water the unringed Female returned yesterday evening and her partner Blue 7A joined her this morning.
In the Rutland area more Ospreys have been spotted feeding on the River Gwash. Male 30(10) seen fishing as well as male T7 and that 11(10) was back fishing with them on Friday! Great news for 25(10), the female that intruded on the Msnton Bay nest before Maya's return. Another pair reunited!

Lots of last year's pairs have arrived, but no sign yet of those at Loch Garten.

The first Ospery eggs have been laid, at both Manton Bay nest and at the Loch of the Lowes one and both on the 14th. It is anticipated that the next could be at the Threaves nest, which we went to see on Monday.
There has, at last, been some activity on the Loch Garten nest, but although the female could well be the same one as last year the male is unringed and so isn't her previous partner, Axel, who has not yet been sighted.

This morning the third egg was laid at both Manton Bay and Loch of the Lowes, about 2hrs apart. It is also thought that there are 2 eggs in the Threaves nest.

Aran, the partner of MrsG, has lost no time in finding a replacement, or two, both unringed. It seems he has settled on the lighter coloured one, nicknamed Dot, on the RSPB's Osprey watchers website, having brought her a fish or two, and they have had a succession of matings. See the link below.

I think that it might be a bit late for there to be a breeding pair this year s Ranworth, especially if a female has not been sighted yet this year, but should she arrive soon the two Ospreys may become a pair, and then return to the nest next year to breed.

I have not posted on Hereford while so here is a bit of an update. There have been 3 hatching reported on the viewer nests. As usual Manton Bay was the first, early yesterday, and rather surprisingly at the Threves next later in the day, with reports of the chick being fed at both.This morning it was the turn of the Loch of the Lowes nest, with a second one already making a hole in its egg. But unfortunately Laddie, the male at LoL, has not delivered any fish to the female, NC0, for a few days, which is not good, as she cannot leave the next to fish for herself.
At Loch Garten last year's female, Asha has returned, but not her partner from last year, Axel. She has however a new unringed mate, now named Brodie, who looks so very much like Asha that it is difficult to tell them apart. So far there is no sign of her laying, and it is getting late in the reason for a successful outcome, but things may get work out.
All the other nests which are watched, with the exception of a couple at Keilder, have eggs and the first round of hatching are fairly imminent.

Edit. There are two eggs in the Loch Garten nest, father unknown, as Asha had a mating with a male who has since disappeared since the arrival of Brodie.

I have not posted on this thread for a while and a huge amount has been going on, more later. However there are some brilliant photos of the pair at Balgarvies Loch on the last 3 pages of the attached link which should make ABM happy.

Not bad a chance to gather all the latest news from the observed nests, however at Manton Bay the 3 juveniles were ringed today, so it won't be too long before they fledge.
The two chicks at Loch of the Lowes were ringed on the 22nd, and identified as one female and one male.

If anybody looks on the BBC news website and scroll down o photos of Scotland for the last week there is a good photo of an Osprey with a fish in its claws and a seagull behind that did not get anything.

Bad news at one of the Keilder nests where a Goshawk has taken 2 of the nearly fully grown chicks, despite the parents doing their best to protect their brood. Nature in the raw!!
