Brian, don't know if you have seen the news on aol about a young Osprey, born this year at Glentress

"Glen had hitched a ride on a couple of ship before flying to Spain.

The first was bulk carrier Agia Triada, going south to Dar es Salaam in Tanzania, and the other the Eco Nical, an LGP tanker heading from Morocco to Immingham back in the UK.

VesselFinder graphics show Glen was on the first ship for about 80-90 nautical miles and on the second for about 50 before he realised it was going the wrong way and took off."

There has been a discussion on the RSPB's Osprey web site about then hitching rides on ships.

Oh 'eck, surprised who says using LPG is bad for the planet,  NTH  ~~  laughing fit to burst  laughing  Hope the return to GB is a tad less stressful although likely to be in about three years time unless it has a short--time return ticket surprisedsmile

1B3/Farnley is still about the River Tavey, accompanied by an unringed male osprey, but they should soon be heading south on their migration. Wonder when or if she will return to these shores?

A couple of interesting updates concerning one of the juveniles from this pair, Blue 694, who has been seen in two different locations in Portugal.

A further update on 422/Featherstone, and more.

On 31st August there was a sighting of Nest 4 sole offspring, 442/Featherstone, in Lincolnshire very soon after she started her migration. She was still in the UK today, and was photographed by Lee Collins at Dawlish Warren Nature Reserve on the Exe estuary. Since leaving Lincolnshire at some point, 442/Featherstone has gone SW. The straight line distance is little different to that from Kielder Forest to Lincolnshire.

None of the Kielder GSM/GPS satellite tracked juveniles stayed this long in the UK, and 1B3/Farnley from Nest 6 was still in Devon yesterday.

As it will soon be the season of the "Return of the Ospreys" I thought that this short video would appeal to those looking out for them, Brian in particular!

Saw first Ospreys of the season when 2 overflew us today. No idea if they will hang around to feed or whether they will carry straight on

The first of this year's Ospreys to arrive at Rutland was spotted today on the Manton Bay nest. A female, Blue 25 (10 ) arrived at 11:51 this morning, she stayed a while before departing probably heading to her own nest at another location by Rutland Water.

    How can this be true?

We are shivering still and Sand Martins and Ospreys are back already.

Doesn't seem possible, only feels like a couple of months since the last one passed by our local reservoir heading south. How fast time is speeding by.

Yes, say the report this lunchtime. The nests with cameras should soon be showing the return of the previous occupiers, all being well.

A further update on the Manton Bay nest.

At 12:58 today Blue 33, the resident male Osprey arrived back at his nest for the start of his season there. He is 5 days earlier than last year and now waiting for his partner, Maya, to return.

On our way to a local DIY store yesterday I looked up and was surprised to see quite low 3 Osprey's flying over a large field made mine day, perhaps they are on their way to UK or the Brenne have see single birds flying over us at home but never 3 together.

An update from the Ranger at LotL

"Female NC0 arrived at her nest in the Scottish Wildlife Trust’s Loch of the Lowes Wildlife Reserve in Perthshire at 7.43am on Friday, and six hours later her mate LM12 (Laddie) returned – performing a sky dance just before landing.

Ranger Sara Rasmussen said she was delighted to see the pair back again at the loch, the first time ever the pair have arrived back on the same day."

As far as the Manton Bay nest is concerned the first Osprey to arrive, Blue 25, not the resident female, has returned and there has already been a mating attempt by Blue 33. Wonder what Maya, his former partner, will do if or when she returns.
