Has anyone seen any evidence of "Dynamic Pricing" working in favour of the customer yet? Or is it just a One Way Street?

Actually Rocky I was thinking more in line with CAMC pitch prices but good to know the club can look elsewhere to see how its done.

Same theory W. When the demand drops so will the price, if it don’t drop then yes-‘it’s a one way street’ Or retail suicide🤷🏻‍♂️

I had to make a last minute cancellation for a one night booking, it came in at just below the deposit rate so I lost the total amount. Had it been a longer or more expensive rate I would have lost the deposit plus a pro rata percentage of the booking costs. The club recently offered vouchers due sites being closed in bad weather.

I just read on FB that due to an illness a member had to cancel their booking, the member was offered a credit of the deposit held against a future booking.

I'd be happy to accept that.

This year we have joined the CCC for the first time ever, alongside the CAMC.  We have yet to use a CCC Club site. Our first booking was for 4 nights from 17th April. Unfortunately I had to cancel that this afternoon, so 20 (?) days before hand.  Yes I had to phone up to make the cancellation, but about 2/3 mins on hold, having been told I was in position 3. I was informed that I could have the deposit (£25) transferred to another date (which I was unable to do) or lose the deposit, no further charge being made.  I lost the deposit (which was what I expected)  I was then also asked (after the cancellation) why was I cancelling - in this case because the van is poorly, and cant go into the dealer until the week of this booking.

All in all about 5/10 mins  max, inc hold, with a very pleasant male member of staff.

C&CC do all their amendments etc via the phone and are usually amenable. I hope CAMC gets into a similar mode I think all these things need the human touch. Everything seems to depend on being on the right side of the 21 day limit.

TG your comment about the FB post seems like a positive resolution. smile

Yes, that’s quite positive, particularly if you use Club Sites a lot.

We booked a site 14 days before we were due there, then after 2 days I found out I had to work on the first night of the trip. I wanted to amend the booking but it was going to cost me £25. Instead of staying for 4 nights we were going to stay for 3. I emailed the club and was basically told tough, you agreed to the T&C’s at the time of booking.

So I thought, right it’s £25 to amend or £25 to cancel so we cancelled. I’ve just booked York Beech Wood (previously mentioned in the thread) and it was £78 for 3 night (2 adults and 1 child). The CAMC site right next door is £150 for the same 3 nights!

How is the clubs new DP system helping me (or other members)? It has literally made us book a competitor site. I don’t mind paying a little extra but I can’t justify nearly twice the cost. As my wife and I both work full time (I work shifts) I’m not able to book months in advance and sometimes we need flexibility. I understand some sites such as York Rowntree got booked up and you could never get on until someone cancelled so I do support a system to deter this from happening but it seems that the club hasn’t explored all options and just looked at profits.

on a side note, we usually have auto renew on our membership but I’ve stopped this now and will most probably not renew.

It is very good value, but if you cancelled it within 14 days it would cost you £78. Personally, when I see full payment required on booking, no matter when you book, I look elsewhere. You say you need flexibility, sites like Beechwood certainly don’t give you that.

That is, of course, the rub of using commercial sites that require full payment 4/6 weeks before arrival. The CMC system is still more generous than others out there in the camping market.

Not necessarily. If you want a very late booking, outside of school holidays, some non Club Sites are very generous. They use dynamic pricing to fill any pitches just short of their sell by date at a reduced price…….if you ask😁

There are of course exceptions to every rule. However, even after the recent changes CAMC T&C’s are more generous than most other suppliers. They may be more expensive, but how many other sites will let you book ahead for a single night during a bank holiday weekend.🤔

We paid in full as we booked it on the Sunday night and arrived on the Monday morning! Booked and arrived in 12 hours (ish), if something happened within that time you’ve got no chance at any site including CAMC.

So what you are saying Steve is you’re not prepared to pay in full if you book the night before? Can I ask why? Surely this is something the club are moving away from as part of the booking you can pay in full or pay the deposit. It sounds like you’re not prepared to pay as you might not turn up and only want to loose your deposit?

The flexibility on this booking comes from late availability and a cheap price, something that CAMC didn’t have. Yes the club site had availability but at near double the cost it’s a straight no.

So on the back of the DP I’ve just checked Beechwood club site and the site is most probably less than half full. I’ve just looked at booking to stay there from tonight and the price is the same as a week ago which shows it doesn’t decrease if the site has an abundance of spaces available. It also shows the price at just over £50 (2 adults, 1 child) which is ridiculous. It’s no wonder the place is empty.

Dynamic Pricing has a different meaning to the CAMC than other leisure industry providers.

We've just had an email from a holiday cottage that we stayed at  2 years ago offering a £100 reduction for a weeks stay over Easter, as obviously they still have availability. Could be any reason, late cancellation etc. but this in my view is what should be happening with unsold pitches on club sites. Not "we'll leave the price unaltered and the pitch unsold."

Agree WN. We pick up some real bargain cottage prices via late availability. Given that the Club don’t use DP to offer similar on book on the day prices at half empty sites, I have come to the conclusion that they simply make so much income having a site even half full, they don’t need to bother!🤷‍♀️

Another email today, telling me there’s lots of pitches available at a good number of site locations🤷‍♀️

From experience ttda you're ever so slightly off the markundecided. Sites like mine at £20 per night are struggling already. Your email should have read that those decent value service point only sites need supportwink Another year at a massive loss won't bode well I think.

Not sure where I said that, I stated “when I see full payment required on booking, no matter when you book, I look elsewhere.” As we typically book at least 6 months in advance there is no way I would hand over the full cost. Similarly if I buy a product on which there is a long lead time I don’t hand over the full amount but am prepared to leave a deposit. Like most we would honour a booking except in exceptional circumstances. However, those do occasionally happen and whilst I am prepared to leave the box ticked to pay before arrival, it would have to be a very special site to convince me to part with the full cost more than a few days before.

Off topic I know, but when are they going to have the courtesy to start posting a warning about maintenance. I tried to post this last night but when I hit save post I got a picture of Bunree  and lost everything.😡

I agree Steve, while I'm happy with a deposit I'd never pay fully up front even 12 hours beforehand.

It's been most nights this week I think Steve, I too was in the middle of a post! Best we all go to bed at ten o'clockundecided

I didn’t pay that much attention to the actual sites mentioned at first JK, but here is list I was sent

Great news - We still have availability on some of your favourite UK Club campsites for stays this Easter and throughout Spring.

Carnon Downs Club Campsite - Cornwall, from £26.70*

Chapel Lane Club Campsite - Birmingham, from £21.20*

Culloden Moor Club Campsite - Scotland, from £22.70*

Godrevy Park Club Campsite - Cornwall, from £23.60^

Hillhead Club Campsite - Devon, from £27.30*

Looe Club Campsite - Cornwall, from £25*

Modbury Club Campsite - Cornwall, from £18.70*

Ramslade Club Campsite - Devon, from £22.90*

Southland Club Campsite - Isle of Wight, from £20.80^

St Agnes Beacon Club Campsite - Cornwall, from £15^

    Book your last-minute getaway now!

All the prices quoted are for one person, some are for a grass pitch and the prices are for a nine night window as far as I can see. I know St Agnes and Chapel Lane are no facility sites, but unsure about others. I guess it’s the Sites mainly in the SW that struggle to get visitors.

Bad news if Carnon Downs is struggling after only just coming onto network. But it’s certainly not a basic no facility Site, and neither is Hillhead or Looe as far as I am aware. 🙂

Thanks for that, my mistake😁 We have never used a single one of those Sites, but are familiar with Looe, Godrevy and St Agnes. Would be tempted with St Agnes, it’s a place we like, especially Chapel Porth Beach, but unless it’s changed, Summer was no dogs. Some lovely walks though.

Edit🤔 we had one night at Carnon Downs, around 1986 or 7 I think. It was Autumn, just us and a couple of others on there.

You are right TDA. The SW sites struggle to fill up over Easter, most people only have the bank holidays and families don't travel the distances done in the summer break. (No dogs at St Agnes beaches from Easter onwards TDA.!) We often stayed there but the risk of cancelled breaks due to waterlogged ground finally put paid to our efforts.

We liked Carnon Downs in the winter but there are some very good CLs in the area which offer excellent value and ambience.

Dogs are only banned on Chapel Porth beach in July & August from 10am to 6pm so not too bad.

PS we're paying up front for our next two sites, a CL and a private site. However the losses, if we don't make it will not be on the scale of the main CAMC sites except the "value" ones which are similar price wise.

That's an improvement TW, previously there were very few dogs or people over Easter unless the weather brought them out so a sensible decision. smile

Thanks Tinny, we have lost touch a bit👍 We have done the odd late swim if the weather has been kind, and the tides are right.😁

Yes, it’s a long trek for a lot of folks is the SW. We used to do long weekends a long time ago, keeping a van stored down near Marazion, all year round. But the traffic is far, far worse nowadays. Three hours from home will get us up into Northumberland on a good run via A1, but three hours South, we would possibly not get beyond Moreton in Marsh nowadays, so we tend to head North.
