Doesn't the fact that "we  are continually working on improvements to the website" some 6 months after its launch indicate that they made a complete dogs dinner of it in the first place?

In addition some issues such DOB requests should have long ago been sorted out if they have been continually working on it.

Rowennas' OP says they are working extremely hard to resolve etc. What? 6 months and still members are experiencing difficulties? If they can't solve their initial problems 6 months after launch isn't that proof that they are simply not technically good enough to do so?

I understand that some members are finding work arounds or have no problems at all but there are still people encountering it for the first time and finding it a minefield.

Possibly but there could be other reasons especially if they have outsorced some or all of the work. You then bring communications and contracts into play. Even so the fault in all these problems being experienced still rests with the Club.

You forgot to say 7 weeks all at a bargain price. They should have increased the price years ago 🤣

7 week at average £45 = £2205 🤑 Let's hope they impose the Food Price Inflation rate of 17% in April and we can look forward to even better availability !

I don’t know if this has happened during the latest bout of maintenance but closed sites are now showing as closed. I’m sure the last time I looked they showed as full. Anyway checking availability  now works well. The photo shows availability for this weekend. Even on an iPad screen you can cover a fair area and still see the status, on a larger desktop screen it would be even better.

I have become super cautious about improvements so I checked the map on my android phone and it's awful, all over the place. I tend to rely on the lists only, which have improved. The big problem appears to be the device specific experiences. The "chat box" is getting in the way of my searches at the moment.

At home we have moved away from a large desktop and possibly like many we now rely on smaller devices. When away we use our phones, chrome book etc as mini computers.

This is just to say that individual experiences vary so much according to devices used and search preferences.smile

That is not the only thing that appears to have changed, there is now a from price included for each site in the list of sites when you search an area.

+1 brue.  I am also using Android, on a tablet.  I have just tried to have a look at Cumbria.  In contrast to SteveL's post, saying sites now show as "closed", on my map they still show as "full", just as before.

Like you, the screen was extremely cluttered: the right half was taken up by the map, the top left by the search panel, which left only enough space to see one site at a time below that panel.

Another anomaly I just found was that, when I clicked to include CLs, then filtered to include toiletblocks, the number of sites changed from 115 to 9!  I really don't think that out of a total of 124 sites and CLs, only 9 have a toiletblock undecided The map covered from the NW coast of Cumbria, above Maryport, to Ingleton in Yorkshire in the SE area of the map.

I agree brue, Individual experiences vary so much according to devices used and search preferences.  I consider myself computer literate, although of course with anything that's changed, it does take a bit of getting used to. But IMHO the problems encountered with the new system have nothing at all to do with an individual's ability or inability to use the system.

Our daughter is currently at Clumber Park ,she tells me it very quite, only about 20% occupancy. Checking the availability callender it shows full today and tomorrow then low every day after that. Does anyone at HQ check the reliability of the callenders ??

It’s half term around S Yorks as well, and weather is quite decent so if Clumber isn’t busy, I would say there’s an issue somewhere🤷‍♀️

You are correct, I wonder what the issue could possibly be 🤔

I've wondered that too.  Having looked at a few sites in Cumbria (following on from my earlier post) out of interest I looked at Meathop Fell; a site we've stayed at a number of times in the past.  It's open all year, yet the calendar states it's closed at the moment.  Nothing about any closure on the site page, or anywhere else that I could see.  It was showing as closed until the 24th of February.  Very odd.

Indeed, very odd. Looks like it might be another device related problem, as with sites showing full when closed. It is showing as open, with prices displayed on my iPad.

Maybe information is being retrieved from cache rather than from the net?

I notice if you are searching on an area and don't put in dates they will show "Full" Put in dates say early March and they will then show closed.

I suppose pulling data from the cache could be a cause. It certainly does that in relation to avatars, with it not changing until it’s been cleared.

I tried it  without dates and again there seems to be a difference on an iPad. The photo is roughly the same area as before and all CAMC sites have prices, I think the base price for the year.

Agree, what are you getting if you search "Cornwall" and what does it say for Marazion? I am using W10 Firefox on my desk top.

I notice when it does say "Full" give it a second or two and it does change to the price. The length of the delay may depend on device and internet connection in use? The exception seems to be Marazion.

If I search for Cornwall I get dates on all but Marazion, which shows as full. I have noticed it briefly (almost unnoticeable) flicking from full to closed or a price when I change zoom level. Marazion shows as full for all dates it is supposed to be open on availability as well.

Most definitely. It was hard work moving all the furniture out of that tiny office door!

It's unlikely to be a campsite again as more mineshafts have opened up over the winter. The cost to fill the two that opened in 2017 was unbelievable.

That's a great shame - another good site lost.

However, one wonders why it still appears on the website in any form given it's gone, finito, extinct.

The new system is a nightmare as far as I am concerned.  If you make a block booking for several sites meaning the various deposits are added into one payment.   If you then need to amend the booking by changing one site for another, the only way to do it is to cancel one and book the new one separately.   That would not be so bad but you do not get your deposit back for the cancelled site although the total cost of the block booking is reduced by the value of the deposit paid.  You also have to pay a deposit for the new site.   To my simple mind this is tantamount to fraudulent practice!

On ringing the booking team there appears to be only one way round this and that is to book each site individually resulting in more transactions and ultimately costing the club more.  I do not understand why it has been made so difficult.   I am retired and usually make several two, three or four week trips per year.

That’s the most interesting piece of information I have read in a while JK. As Marazion was our very favourite Club Site, you can understand how disappointed and upset we have felt about losing this lovely little site. However, we know about the ever present risk of mine shafts in the area, and the risk and cost of it happening again, is possibly something the Club doesn’t want to throw huge sums of cash at. Why this hadn’t been explained as part of the reason for closure I don’t know, it’s a lot more of an explanation than just closing it. Thanks anyway for that, makes the decision more understandable now. But very sad. The nearby CL has gone as well, and I don’t think the private campsite on the back road into Hayle is still open, so we would need to have a rethink to find a location as convenient as Threeways.

    Sorry to go of topic..

There’s a site opposite Wheal Alfred NAWT animal rescue centre on the cross country road to Hayle, TDA. I can’t remember its name and know nothing about it although I’m very familiar with the kennels 😀

I’ve made several bookings under the new system but all separately. Personally I would never use the multiple function, as I like separate confirmations. They say we asked to do it but it wasn’t me, I am happy booking one at a time.

Typical club lack of communication yet again. Abysmal

Thanks Tinny, didn’t know about that one. I quite fancy WhealRodney during quiet times as well. We used to swim there, and do our laundry. Pleasant place. 😁

For clarity I just need to say my post above was not the official reason for that site closing, just a summationsmile.
