Slightly more than the average house thensmile

Are you going to have batteries as well? I imagine that milking times, for most of the year, doesn't coincide with maximum output? I am sure you will have some sort of arrangement with your power supply company. I have ummed and ahhed about solar panels on the house over the last couple of years but have decided against as the latest hike in energy prices seems to have coincided with an increased cost of installation. I probably should have done it 10/15 years ago!

We may install batteries later on.

This installation coincides with the end of our fixed electricity tariff, and we investigating various possibilities (with the help of an expert from a local land agency).

We have two meters/accounts - one for the farm and one for the house. We’re thinking of moving the washer and dryer into the barn to take advantage of the solar.

You are right DK, we had our fitted 12 years ago. Never regretted the cost even back then, we recovered the outlay in year 8.

We have thought about batteries but would we really get that much benefit from them with being away so much. Our electricity usage is fairly low even when at home. On a sunny winters day I will have the washer on and the dish washer plus anything else that I can. Summer isn't as organised as we have much longer days.

OH been busy up at our sons house again today, they even had an apprentice (14 year old grandson) hopefully tomorrow will SE the kitchen finished, I think OH is feeling his age.

I've been doing jobs around the house and this afternoon started making a sleeveless top on the knitting machine, I've gone for a Burgandy and cream fairisle pattern. Front looks good, OH fancies it so might have to do another one.

Reading back through a few days posts and hope those suffering from ailments see some improvement soon.

You seem to have been busy Ttda and TG in the garden. Mrs WN has managed to fill both brown garden waste bins, collection starts March, and I even chipped in one day. Things going well here albeit slowly. We've been making use of the clement weather and walking quite a bit.

Have I missed something as I haven't seen anything from JVB recently. Hope all is well with him and his wife.

Margaret actually managed to book and attend a face to face appointment at the Doctors today without a pre consultation phone discussion, perhaps things are getting back to normal? Before the pandemic you could phone and get an appointment that day but there was also an opportunity to book an advanced booking if you needed a slightly longer appointment. We have noticed that a few of the longer appointments have started to appear, only problem is they seem to be snapped up as soon as they show on the screen.

I have also been a bit concerned about JVB, unusual as he was such a regular poster. Early January since he last contributed, hope he and his other half are OK.

Good to read all the news...  I've spent today sorting out where we are going in the summer, and I've now booked all the sites.  Mind you, I did have a problem with the booking system!!  I don't know if it's just my internet connection, but I had difficulty in getting the calendar' to populate with the 'cost per night' information.....and you need that to happen before it will allow you to book the dates.  Did it eventually, thank goodness.... but it's taken an age.

Glad to read that you had a good night's sleep at last, brue.

I too have been wondering about JVB. Not like his to miss posting on some of the contentious post that have been made recently. Hope all is well with him and his OH.

Visit for me this morning to our doctor's surgery for a BP check. It is 5 yrs since they checked it, but thankfully all is fine, so hopefully it will be as long again before I have to get it checked. All ready for the off again in the morning.

A day of successes and failures. Latest being lost my entire post 😤

1st success I feel better today, not quite the same for OH.

Hard landscaping work halted about lunchtime, lack of materials. Can't be typing it out again, should resume tomorrow.

New gas meter fitted after 4 month wait. Blank screen. Estimated bills on 40 year old boiler and previous inhabitants.  Another conversation/discussion to have.

Dora had her groom, price increase, she loves going she cries when she cottons on where she's going! 7 minute journey took 20 to collect her, you name it encountered it.

Arrangements for ensuite ceiling insulation and window replacement made for Monday.

Out with Dora 7am to get ahead, finally got my shower 5pm. And 2nd job for today now number 1 for tomorrow.

Son and grandson coming so I doubt it will be quieter than today 😱. 2 dogs, an almost 2 year old boy and hard landscapers. Still mini digger left yesterday so that won't be a temptation 😉.

I too have been wondering about JVB and his OH. I know we shouldn't ask, but we care like a community. If you're reading JVB thinking of you.

    Posting now before it vanishes

I'm glad I'm not going anywhere at the moment but have a good holiday Corners, my cough is keeping me firmly on the ground. wink

OH has asked me to view his good works at daughter's house so I might have a few minutes out doing that.

We are waiting for a food delivery just now and then I'm going to do as little as possible today.

Good to hear you feel a bit better B2 hope your OH gets better too.

Sounds sensible to install solar Goldie, do you run generators too? At least you have room for solar. Our village might install some solar in part of a field to benefit a few local premises.

We have a generator as an emergency backup if there's a power failure. It's capable of running the whole farm (including milking parlour and it's systems etc) and the house. Thankfully we don't have to use it much (less than once a year), but it's good to know it's there. It runs off a tractor, so powered by diesel.

Sitting in this morning whilst the Ladies visit Tesco.

We're due a parcel, rather large one, and the timescale given for delivery is 08.00 to 20.00. Narrows it down a lot, doesn't it? Anyway I heard a van door slam 15 minutes ago and opened the front door to find it sitting there and the back of a DHL van disappearing up the close. Not a ring of the bell or a knock of the door. The parcel is a Space saver tyre and wheel for Mrs WNs "new" car. I still have some strength problem with my hand as I've got a slight sprain in the wrist following an over vigorous exercise so had a Dickens of a job moving it. Not impressed with the service. Bet I don't get an email asking for feedback this time.smile

Will get out for a walk later.

That cough isn't giving up is it Brue? Good to see B2 has improved. Where's CS off to?

Had a cough for about 8 weeks so went to the docs yesterday.  Very strong antibiotics prescribed.  Strange things, take 2 first day then 1 for 3 consecutive days.  Not allowed to to go out in direct sunlight.

Hope JVB and other half are ok

I would get in touch with whoever sold you the item WN, and tell them about your experiences. Sellers will want to know how good the delivery service is, and given just how many companies there are out there, a few bad reports and they might switch. Recent strikes and uncertainly around PO deliveries have seen a few companies move to try other sources. Mind, you get good and bad with all😁

Sensible advice David and I'm sorry you haven't been well. I've been unwell for about 10 days, it took OH 3 weeks to get over the same illness so I was giving myself a bit more time. However I will take action before the weekend, it will at least stop me grumbling on here!

I do hope you are making progress, take care.

    Also good wishes to Oneputt.

Deleted User User, wishing you better.

Likewise brue and Oneputt OH has been full of cold/cough/whatever since early January and 2 days of antibiotics making a definite improvement. He seems brighter 🤞.

Goldie sounds like your OH doing very well and another sensible decision on future proofing the farm power.

Wherenext definitely a comment to supplier over delivery. That's not good enough regardless of your personal health situation. In our house it couldn't have been moved.

One reason I like IKEA is delivery to any room of your choice. Great when I couldn't move a box without unloading even in an upstairs room 🤣🤣

New bathroom light on order ready for ensuite ceiling insulation. Messy Monday on the cards as it's to be done from the inside.

Great morning with son and grandson. Just clearing up 😀. Nice to happy mess to deal with.

Still only single workman on hard landscaping. So it's mixing, coating the back of the slabs, laying and cutting to fit. Boss came today he said it he's a bit slow but does a good job. I said I very happy with the finish but working alone bound to slow progress. Looks like the back and side should be done busy early next week. Monday the digger comes back and we have to decide how to reshape the block paving path and incorpate into existing. Hosepipe laying fun. That'll be the end of that work.....

After flying over Tenerife then after a further two hours we're in Boa Vista in Cape Verde! A private swim up pool, and 24/7 all inclusive food and drinks. A bit cooler today, we are told, at 24C but it feels brilliant. Hope everyone is well. I will certainly toast all of you at some point later.

Both we and DD have that sort of problem with several of the delivery companies, especially Evri.

We have a vestibule with double wooden doors that can be pulled shut, so we ask for parcels to be placed there if we are out and the second door pulled shut.  Some deliverers do comply, but Evri do not seem to understand simple instructions.  They just leave the parcel on the step out side the doors, in full view of the street, and do not even ring the bell.

DD also has a vestibule with outer door, and even a sign on the door asking for any parcels to be placed inside the outer door.......they still leave parcels outside on the step, again in full view of the street, even in the rain, and again do not bother to ring the bell.  She is home 90% of the time so would hear it.

She ordered a bread maker from Lakeland and it never arrived......or did it?   Who knows! OH rang Lakeland to report it missing, and related what Evri usually do, so they  sent a replacement, with specific instructions on it to place in vestibule.  We found it on the doorstep as usual.

DHL are almost as bad, only the Amazon guys seem to be able to either act on DD's instructions, or manage to ring the bell.

We have a porch which is all glass panels with a single door and generally we don't have issues with deliveries if the instruction is to leave in porch. Yesterday afternoon I ordered a new battery for the motorhome and it was due today. It was being delivered by Yodel today although when we left this morning to go shopping there was time mentioned and the email from them suggested they wouldn't leave it. When we got back from Waitrose there it was sitting in the porch. I thought they needed a signature but all they wanted was a picture of it inside an open door, which the porch provides! Glad we didn't have to go and collect it because it was B***** heavy!

It's all down to the individual driver Kj.

Our Evri driver is great but the company is one of the worst for getting the stuff to you. Amazon seem to change drivers regularly. Last week he left a parcel addressed to us in next doors garden as there was no-one in there  to accept it, I saw him deliver it thinking, rightly as it turned out, that it was ours but they do have a lot from Amazon themselves. Their drivers report stated he had handed it to recipient! Found this out when we reported it.

Had a feedback form from DHL for today so I've sent that. Also states I personally took delivery! DPD seem ok and pretty quick. Post Office are slow but our postman is very good and knows where to leave it if we're out.

I've been very impressed with all deliveries since arriving in Huntindmgdonshire. Mind you there have been posts on village fb page with a photo - asking for recognition of door and step when they've had it as evidence!

Today our postman knocked with parcel and letters about 1130. Doorbell went before 4pm, our postie with a parcel.and apology. He found the parcel left in the van when he got back to the yard. Could so easily have left it until tomorrow. Fabulous service.

Downside, son accepted 1st post delivery, 2nd item was our chimney sheep. It would have been so simple for him to fit, so much younger for scrabbling about in the floor 🤣🤣.

Hope all those not well feel better soon.

Deliveries, we don't seem to suffer with deliveries, doorbell gets rung, if we leave a note asking them to put it someplace else, it's placed there.

We sometimes take things in for neighbours but not often. We do see photos on village FB asking who's door is this.

Kitchen at sons place almost finished, OHs back is giving him some pain but it should be OK once he rests it.

I had a day of failures, first resealing the shower base didn't go well. Then this afternoon I knitted the back of my sleeveless top, all went well until the last 6 rows, took the carraige from left to right and it fell off the needles 😩 couldn't pick it back up. Had to unravel it all. Will try again tomorrow.

Bakers, I bet you wil be glad to see the garden finished, it sounds like it will be much better for looking after.

Now on another new to us very quiet CL after an easy if rather misty drive up the Cumbrian coast. EHU,  H/S, a toilet and a dog walk through the wood, all for £16 pn, with one other van on which appears to be a fixture. Dry afternoon after a damp morning, but rain from about 16:30.
