👍 Bodmin Moor is another notorious snow hot spot, as is Kent. Cousin sent me a photo of central London last night, far more snow than we have here. 😁

My car in for a service and MOT today, it got through but a list of very expensive ‘advisories’ which I will have to have done in the new year. On top of that their car wash had frozen so I didn’t even get the complimentary car wash, which my car desperately needed.

We have a small fridge in the kitchen but also a fridge freezer, which we inherited from an aunt, in the integral garage, only use the fridge as an overflow. Now we do know that when the ambient temperature drops lower than the fridge setting it goes off, but we forgot! Had to throw out the top tray from the freezer, fish, fish fingers and some chicken. Managed to get the bottom two trays content mostly veg, into the chest freezer while it was still frozen, very annoyed, hate wasting food.

    1. Our car had an advisory for split. rubbers on the steering joints ,this year at a different garage i asked  the person doing the mot to check the steering , it passe without any advisory, mot person asked why did I ask about the steering ,I told her about last years advisory, she said there was nothing wrong with any of the steering as she had looked especially
    2. The previous  national chain  garage wanted £167 to maybe? Change the rubbers
    3. Yours  might need some work but I would get some advise

Finally got to bed about 01.30 this morning, up again at 07.15 to prepare for   arrival of builders, worn out now!

We had -6 overnight here, on the south side of town it was -7.  Never got above -4 all day, but was warm in the house as it was sunny. No heating needed between 10.00 and 16.00, washing and drying done using power from the roof.

Builders have done grouting and drilled the holes for the various things to be fixed in place such as towel warmer and radiator.  Fair bit of grout landed on floor, but seems to have been cleaned up.  Not sure whether they will get everything finished tomorrow.

Wrote all our Christmas cards that are to be posted, 14 in all, but for one we have no address as the recipients have moved.  Printed up labels with postage on and 13 cards now sent off.

OH has written ones for the family, so almost done now.  A few local ones still to do, they will be hand delivered.

It’s a garage that I always use and I trust. I did consider going to a certain cheaper garage but I’d used them once before and when they changed two tyres for me they told me work needed doing, I’d only had the MOT done at my usual garage a month before so thought it didn’t and for that reason returned to my local this time. Being a retired Trading Standards Officer does have advantages in knowing local businesses to trust.

Snow here tonight, had to get up early for dentist today, note to self, no more early appointments. Got to return on Wednesday so hope the weather improves, our dentist has moved to new premises further away. Not allowed a mouth rinse, is that the norm?

    Keep warm folks!

Millie, have now driven through Northallerton twice and it's been traffic queues both times. The train crossing on the road to Darlington is causing the hold-ups as there were to be a train every few minutes going through it at the moment. We had to do some shopping and struggle to get a park in both Lidl and Tesco, although neither shop was packed. It suspect the free parking there is the incentive as all street parking is now "pay and display".

It has been cold all day with heavy cloud but thankfully no snow, so far anyway. Showing -2 at the moment and I doubt that it got above +1 during daylight. Only bothered walking from the van  but hope to get out somewhere tomorrow for a decent walk.

The only dentist appointment that I could get (4months ago) was for 8.30am three days before Christmas. So not looking forward to that either Brue, hope it’s not icy then. It’s for the other half of my mouth, teeth to be cleaned. Now I’m older and it’s so painful they will only do one half at a time, fully injected all around with anaesthetic. I do get mouth rinse though, can’t think why you wouldn’t?

Nothing has changed at our dentist, other than that they have now gone private and it costs us £16 each per month.  The mouth rinsing is still there.

We have -7.5 at the moment, and freezing fog.  Frost stat on CH in granny flat has kicked in, it is located in the loft.  The one for the rest of the house is under the floor but has not activated, so our  heating has switched off on the timer.

The only way at the moment to get the one in the loft to turn off is to open the loft hatch to let some heat up there, I will need to fit a pipe stat on the return pipework instead.  This must be the first time in over 25 years that the frost stat has been activated.

Bathroom is progressing well, fittings now going in, but it will be tomorrow before it is finished.

Our Dentist doesn’t do a mouthwash.  Hasn’t done since the first Covid lockdown, no idea why!!   We do hope they don’t go private though, £16 a month you pay KjellNN we wouldn’t mind but the private dentist in our village wanted twice that when we enquired.

No chance of getting another NHS dentist in North Devon after we lost our one. We waited almost 12 months with no joy when we had to go private. £22.75 each a month for us.

All we get for that, via Denplan, are 2 check ups and 2 scale and polish each year, plus a 10% discount on the private fees for any other work needed.

There are some NHS dentists around here, but few are taking on new patients.  We have been with the same dentists for the last 34 years, so decided to stay, and pay.

10% discount as we have 3 of us on the monthly DD.

Builders have loft hatch open for working on water and CH, so frost stat has now switched off.

Unfortunately, we were so cold we had to turn the main house heating back on, so a fair bit of that is also going out through the open hatch!

Going to be a large gas bill this month   😟

Usually it directs you to different email addresses depending on which dept you need to contact but you have to tick the boxes first to be directed to the right dept.

I followed Brue's link and the answer was

"A new Sites Directory and Handbook is issued by the Club to all Members 3-5 days after joining, and a new copy will be sent each time the directory is updated (every other year). The next Directory is due early 2023."

Maybe an email could produce something more specific.

We've been going to the same dentist in Chester for the last 38 years and have been using Denplan for about 10 years now.

Just cancelled the direct debit as we were due to pay £60 p.m.(that's in total for the 2 of us) but did include foreign use. We get 2xHygeine visits and 2xCheckups free plus any filling. Caps etc are extra. We've decided to self fund as its gone over our VFM limit. If we do get to tour abroad again then they have an insurance specifically for that at a low level fee. We have used their service abroad once when MrsWN had a filling fall out in Germany.

A grey miserable day here, no sun at all.

I did follow the link that brue highlighted and asked that we did not want the new directory/map sent here so have asked for it digitally and got a automatic reply from HO saying it will be dealt within the next 7 days  will wait to see if they do. Thanks again brue.

A lot of rain overnight last night but none during the day but more on the way  although warmer it is going colder again by the weekend then warmer again next week.

We are similar with our payments WN, our dental practice stopped Denplan and started to run their own system but we both feel we're pressured now, with various offers and it's all a bit OTT and I often emerge feeling things aren't right. I can't imagine what it would be like in a USA style system...we'd probably both have matching sets of large glowing white teeth! wink
