What are you all up to

Yes we should indeed and the response from staff has been amazing, but also with many friends and families of the staff joining in. I was with a tear in my eye last night when a dear friend I mentioned it to came back with their donation even though they are miles away with no connection to the school!
I think what has made people so eager to help is that these gifts will really go to those that really won't be getting presents any other way. There aren't many times I'm lost for words but when talking to the SENCO and welfare team today I learnt that a student at the end of each day fills up two hot water bottles to help keep her warm for a while in the evening! I don't think the lessons from a A Christmas Carol have sunk in yet.
The school is one of the best for looking after its students in need and thinking things through. Next week every child is getting a Christmas lunch and while it will cost more to give it to every child but it shows that they realise it won't single anyone out as needing it.

Keep up the good work, Corners 👍🏻

I will. And don't get me wrong some of the kids are very rich who get get dropped on in cars I can only dream about.
And some are 'little tinkers' I spent one lesson on duty taking these tinkers in the sin-bin, actually I get told off for calling it that, its real name is the SRR - the 'self regulation room' where they sit by themselves and I suppose regulate themselves but a rose by any other name...
Bringing this back on track I was talking to some year 11s who were talking about how to arrive at their prom, which apparently is far more important as it will be remembered for far longer. Now limos are now not 'in' while something like an ice cream van or a tractor is (?)
I did suggest a motor-home but this was dismissed in the same way as a limo however a caravan was considered as being a 'cool' way to arrive - what a turn up! They were upset to hear that traveling in a towed caravan is illegal or at least unsafe so they progressed to a horse drawn caravan.

Proms, eh, what fun 🕺🏻💃
Maybe there as future members of CAMC amongst those pupils 😗😀.

Been busy here, can't really say why. Time seems to go fast, I know I wake up Monday morning but I think it's Friday night when I retire......
Very cold here, got to 2c today didn't yesterday. Beautiful sunrise with the moon setting yesterday, not quite so clear today. But lovely hard underfoot walks through the fields - so much nicer than mud. Dora adores the different smells....
Back to Essex Tuesday for dentist, managed both directions in daylight thankfully, but low sun a pain. 3 M11 jncidents, not surprised watching some driving 😱. There's an area with chevrons, please stay at least 2 apart. Queue of lorries and one bearing down on us like he'd like a lift 😱. Got into outside lane when safe and staggered to find the lorries all less than 1 apart 🤐😡
OH got hearing aids Wednesdayso we also did a smash and grab M&S shop. Yesterday I had a corn removed, bliss, and physio on ankle hopefully the last. Nice to be comfy walking again....
Posted our cards early, I really like them and enjoy writing them and adding a bit of news - never had 'help' he does sign the childrens and grandchildrens plus mine which he even chooses!. We don't put up lots of decorations but I love the cards.
Started putting decs up today, son assisted last Sunday with lights in outside tree that looks very effective as does our close. Strange finding where to place things in the new house I expect they'll be lots of tweaking before it's settled.
Jackie Lawson does beautiful electronic Advent calendars too, interactive our NZ granddaughters love them, grandson still a tad too young. He had Usborne Advent book calendar from us, a book a day. Finding the concept of only opening one door a day difficult 🤣 coming up to 2 so real fun will start..
Wishing those poorly a speedy recovery and the busy ones, me included 😉 a rest......
Photos of our tree, with an accidentally reindeer and the latest village postbox topper. We've had some beautiful ones since we arrived, a very talented lady in the village.

I think you can't really go past Christmas lights and outdoor decorations without smiling or feeling better so thanks!

Just enjoyed catching up with all the news. 🙂🙂
Very cold here too but at least we've had some sunshine.
Finished a week of radiotherapy, now have 2 days off. Travelling out of Oxford in the rush hour has been challenging but there was a beautiful moon to guide us home tonight. Been chatting to a few of the others while waiting, been surprised to hear just how far people have travelled for treatment. It's a bit like a radiotherapy conveyor belt 😳
Not put up all the Christmas lights this year, just haven't got the energy 😕.
Enjoy the weekend .

I don't think its possible not to feel 'nice warm glow' when you see Christmas lights.
Our close looks lovely as does much of the village. One house has gone, apparently has for years, all out with lights. Official switch on too raising money for air ambulance - already over £500 this year.
It's early for decorations for me, I like them near Christmas and the full 12 days after but it seems most start early December, some November, but current trends seem up early and down before 12th night 🥲. It's a long slog of dark cold days as the new year starts.

Our street looks cheerful with lots of lights, nothing inside our house till next week. Have to lug in a tall pot grown tree which will get a shock from cold to warm.
Spent some time sweeping up the frosted leaves so aptly described by WN, strangely our apple trees have hung onto their leaves longer than usual. They've gone into compost and bulking up the right of way surface.
Hoping to get out tomorrow, had extra dogs today so things were a bit frenetic....🐕🐕🐕
Hope you can enjoy your two days off Helen.
Quite a 📮sight on the postbox B2!

Thank you all for the good wishes for little Callum. We did finally manage to get a substitute antibiotic, one bottle supplied by the small Boots Pharmacy, the second by the even smaller Lloyds Pharmacy 2 shops along, so he was much better in the evening.
Then DD came online to say he was worse again and that Daddy was starting to panic. OH advised they should give the antibiotics a chance, and try to get him to drink a bit more. DD was on hold with 111, I think, for 90 minutes, and they gave the same advice.
This morning he was a LOT better, though DD was not in great shape after a sleepless night!
We have had a spanner in the bathroom works as our builder messaged last night to say he was feeling unwell by the time he got home, so would not be able to come today. Hopefully he will be OK by Monday, but the timetable is now in a bit of a mess as I will not be available to lay the floor after they do the grouting on Monday, as I have a meeting to attend. Will need to see how we can resolve that.
So OH was also able to go down to DD's today to help look after the children. I took Nathan to Nursery and DD to her office, then was in charge of Callum while OH did some clothes washing, dish washing etc, etc. It was after 5pm when DD returned, so it was a very long day.

Just trying to catch up on the latest from CT when I spotted the odd comments on predictive text....
For the junior section of the Abbey Choir, we have a WhatsApp group. They were commenting on their favourite/ least favourite Christmas songs, and somewhere down the line I wrote 'Oh Holy Night'. Unfortunately, because of predictive, it came out as 'Oh Holy Nightmare'. This song will now forever more be known as..... and I won't be allowed to forget it!!!

It must have been clear here for the first part of the night as very frosty, now clouded over and snowing and settling. Unusual for Devon at this time in winter, very cold, as everywhere.
Granddaughter came yesterday and we were talking about the weather and heating. She suddenly said, ‘do you still get it all free on Sundays?’ I had completely forgotten that we once did, don’t know how she remembered. When we changed to British Gas, some 8 or 9 years ago, the incentive was 6 months free on gas and electric on Sundays 9am til 4pm I believe. I used to try to do everything on that day. Can you just imagine that now!
Reading KJs bathroom renovation posts makes me so glad that we had Storm Boards fitted over our old tiles in our bathrooms. Builders idea, rather than taking all the tiles off, it took the builder less than a day to fit them, 8 years ago. Since then I think all I have done is just wiped them down a couple of times and they still look like new, no grouting to ever go off colour. If we ever move and it’s not a new bathroom that’s the first thing to be put up.
House decs and tree to go up today. Anything outside other than the front door garland will have to wait, too cold.
I know exactly what you mean about lorries trying to get in your boot Bakers, it can be very scary. Last week I pulled into a lay-by to let one pass on a country road. I think he was trying to see how close he could get and I wasn’t driving slowly.
Take care Helen, try to rest on your ‘days off’ not nice at the best of times without the traffic headache as well. Best wishes.

I've wondered about doing the same, David, but we still send them out. I am, more and more, wondering about the 'value' of the exercise.... It only cost a few pence to buy a Christmas card, but around the £1 mark to send it..... and with the current industrial action, I wonder if the cards actually get there by post, before Christmas? I reckon we've received far fewer Christmas Cards this year, so far. Some folk send out 'email/ on line' Christmas cards... these seem to be on the increase.

I’m sure that it will be very difficult for you this Christmas robsail. I wish you the best Christmas that you can have. ‘What Are You Up To’ is a nice discussion page and posters are very supportive, I know it’s not the same but it’s good to chat on here sometimes so please keep posting.

I am so sorry to hear that and I cannot even begin to imagine how you must be feeling at any time of year but it must be even worse at Christmas. At least know that I'll thinking about you over all Christmas and in my prayers.
Yes I agree about the personal nature of both posting any type of card and receiving one. It takes far more effort and care to write and post a card or letter to someone and it makes its presence felt in the home and you're reminded very time you look at it.

Stay around on here Robsail, as Debsc says it’s just nice to read about the adventures of others, take in a few photos, chat about just this, that and the other, until you start to feel a bit more like doing things. 👍

Robsail Christmas is going to be so difficult for you. Please know that I am thinking of you and remembering you in my prayers. Please keep posting on here. As DEBSC has said it is good to chat and everyone on here is very supportive. Wishing you all the best.

Hope you found another use for the strained blackcurrant Debs, such as sprinkling some on your breakfast cereal....a great way to start a day!!

My thoughts are with you too, robsail. As others have said please keep posting on here, it's good to chat, and for us to hear of your adventures.

Comfort can come from unexpected places and people.
Today we had a meal out but I espied the dreaded white stuff on the Quantocks so I hope it stays there! Anyone else got snow?
Watched the match, sorry it ended the wrong way for us.
Looking after extra dogs again tonight. Their owners are out seeing St Agnes Fountain, they get free tickets, daughter helps behind the bar and her partner helps with the lighting. Can't keep up with what they do. Daughter was singing somewhere else today, old country carols. I expect DSB is similarly occupied just now!?

Another dry day but with some cloud in the morning, and then a thick must came in around 4:00 this afternoon. We had a walk at Middleham with Flyte before we visited the castle, and then after lunch another walk up on the gallops. Our last night here before we move on to our next CL tomorrow.
