Have you lost TV CH 5
CH 5 has recently moved freesat frequency. I first noticed the loss of this channel at home followed a few days later on my motorhome TV. Some set top boxes may correct themselves but I have read that TVs with inbuilt receivers won't and you will have to manually retune them. This was the case with both my home and motorhome sets. I was not aware this was going to happen and it was only through a search of the internet I found out what had happened and how to correct. Older TV sets can be difficult to change if you have to program in the new transponder frequency of 11307Mhz
If you are just missing CH 5 this is why. Sky customers should not be effected.
As an aside In the course of searching It was observed ITV is to shortly stop transmitting standard definition channels on freeview so if your TV won't receive HD channels you will lose these channels.

In the 21st century having to view any TV in fuzzy vision is just crazy🤷🏻♂️. HD should be a base minimum, 2 or 4K the norm.

Fine at home, not always as good when away. Although our little Avtex receives the HD channels, unless you are in a good signal area they will break up. At the moment it is possible to switch to standard resolution, which is generally OK. Doesn’t look like that will be an option soon. Hopefully others won’t follow suit,

If you've access to wifi, either on site or by phone/mifi etc, then a cheap option is an Amazon Firestick of similar.
live tv and catch-up available, including streams like Netflix and Prime TV, for these with older TVs where the above issue will only get worse, this might be the way to go.
as long as a tv has an HDMI socket these little devices are great and inexpensive. Really simple to set up.
the first one I bought a couple of years ago was about £35, I bought a second one for the van six months ago for around £20.

Nothing to do with attitude R2B. I realise, as YT helpfully points out, there are other options. However, whilst not that expensive, they are not zero cost. We aren’t that bothered with other than the basic channels while away and freeview has proved very reliable in most locations (not Altnaharra😂) to date. I suspect they want to free up the frequencies for something else and I suspect it inevitable that other providers will follow in the near future.

It so is down to attitude👍🏻. An individuals attitude to fuzzy vision or crisp/clear pictures on the TV. Me? I’ll throw money at it all day long to get a good clear pic😊. Others not so. . .Differing attitudes see.

If I watch TV whilst away then it’s because I want to watch something specifically not a boredom thing, it’s why I take a 22” TV. I find it hard to find anything to watch on CH5 mind🤔

My aging (but lovely) Panasonic doesn't have an HD DTV tuner. I did check last night and Ch5 is still there and working.
I don't use that tuner much as we have Sky and the Firestick.
my bedroom tv is SD only but I'm sure Ch5 is still there, too.
as it happens, the BBC2 HD channel on the Sky tv guide has been in 'slot 2' for ages, with BBC2 SD down in the 800 area, whereas BBC1 SD is in slot 1 and BBC1 HD down the list in the 800s.
not only that, slot 3 is ITV1 HD, slot 4 is Ch4 HD and slot 5 is already Ch5 HD. These have been like this for as long as I can remember.
we have 2 TVs in the van, one is non HD DTV and the other is HD DTV. I'll probably retune them tomorrow as we are out in the van for a couple of days, I'll check the Ch5 situation.
I guess the DTV guide is just being aligned with other platforms?
it may be that, on non HD DTV sets, Ch5 SD appears somewhere else in the list, way down the bottom end. I can't see Ch5 just being wiped out from tens of thousands of viewers at a stroke.

I've never seen the point of HD, let alone 2 or 4K unless maybe one has a giant screen. I've switched between HD and the equivalent non-HD channels on the TV that I've got in the caravan and never noticed any appreciable difference.

That’s good for you & less expensive, I personally watch many wildlife programmes & enjoy 4K as it helps in telling a moving stoat from a weasel which isn’t that easy with fuzzy vision👍🏻

......but much depends on the quality of the TV set, Rocky. A poor set will only ever give a second rate picture while a quality set will let you enjoy the enhancements of HD or 4K.👍

Surely that will mean the disappearance of local news on Freeview? If we watch the ITV News on the HD channel it is followed by the local news Meridian which covers the South/East of the country. If I swap over to SD I get Anglia (our area) so what will happen to the local news?
Even BBC is pulling back from Oxford and Cambridge in their local broadcasting. The trouble is that for us, with everything based in Norwich I doubt we will get anywhere near as much news local to us here in MK?

I can see the point ... HD is a much clearer & sharper picture. I can see the difference between HD & SD on our caravan's 20-something (24"??) screen and definitely see a difference at home on our 65" screen.
I can't comment on 2k or 4K

I think the key word there is 'appreciable'...perhaps some are able to see the difference...watching football, where the ball is small, it's better (for me) in HD.
My son has a huge (60+ inch) tv with 4K ability and, when watching streamed World Cup on ITV Hub, it's really a fantastic picture.

When we were in Scotland this year I noticed when on the HD channel the news didn’t go to the red screen at 6:30 but continued with the local news. Of course they only have one local news covering the whole of Scotland. However, I seem to recall on our red screen it says local programmes are not transmitted on this channel yet. Implying they are planning it.

It is difficult to. find solid information about the closing of HD channels especially on freeview. Satellite channels are leading the way where ITV have already closed some of the smaller local region SD channels. BBC is expected to close all its satellite SD channels next year. Terrestrial freeview cannot be far behind.

Thanks PD, that explains why I had to do a full retune of our MH TV on our way home through France as ch5 was missing.
SteveL in Scotland if you want regional news you have to be on Stv but not HD or you get Glasgow.
So if ITV channels are to go to HD does that mean ITV 2, 3, and 4. At the moment we only get these on normal not HD.
I like the HD at home on a big screen but in the van Like Lutz and SteveL it doesn't really make a difference.

TG, currently on freeview BBC has all services shown as being on both HD and SD but only ITV1 is shown as SD and HD whereas on freesat all of ITV and BBC services are shown as both SD and HD channels. I have not checked all the satellite HD channels but some appear to being readied for the changes as they are not yet live.
