I don't think the 90 day restriction would really effect us. In all the years of travelling I think the longest I have spent on the Continent on a single trip is 60 days. I like to keep it to about 42 days or even a couple of shorter trips (rare). If I or anyone else did decide to stay longer surely it cannot be too difficult to get a visa?

Very strong rumours of Spain pushing hard to find a way to help their ailing tourism industry.
cheap, easily available visas have been mentioned, with other countries very interested....
Switzerland have just voted on their 'free passage' arrangements with the EU. Not beyond the with of man for the UK to......(etc, etc)...

Having just returned from Spain I saw no signs of their tourism industry ailing due to lack of British visitors. If it has been ailing it's for other reasons (maybe Covid etc.). I got the impression that the French have been filling vacant spots left by Brits.
Switzerland, although not in the EU, is a Schengen country and has been all along.

Most of the population know that there is a World Cup taking place but many, many millions have no idea of the detail as they have no interest in football.
I know there are restrictions on traveling abroad, that were not there before but, as my longest trip, like peedee, is 6 weeks absolute maximum, I have far more interest in the Argentina result!!

This has been my take on the issue. The Spanish have recently done their very best to clean out those Brits who have caused so many detrimental issues in their tourist areas. They are now attempting to attracting a better clientele from elsewhere in Europe and it seems to be working.

I really don’t think the Spanish Tourist industry were trying to cleanse themselves of the likes of us as well you know, David but those Brits abroad have done us a terrible disservice and given us a bad name In certain European tourist hotspots. I do hope the Spanish Tourist industry can rid themselves of such louts as they are hoping to do by the actions they are now taking. By the way, I do try it regularly, just not in my motorhome! What’s more, it’s the locals that mention the poor behaviour of my fellow compatriots.

+1 Micky boy 100%👍🏻. I was told by campervan friends they were shocked by the lack of respect & care in both Spain & Portugal shown by LV’ers particularly the LV’ers lack of care taken in flora & fauna sensitive areas. It wasn’t the typical yob types either but what was seemingly respectable couples/families🙁. Very sad. It’s good you are further giving voice to the environments struggle.

I very recently undertook an extensive railway tour of Spain visiting several cities. What surprised me was the fantastic rail systems across the county. Clean, fast, quiet, comfortable, relatively cheap and enjoyable. What’s more, they were very proud of the networks relationship with nature and those related eco aspects. Every kilometre or so there were wildlife corridors allowing fauna and flora safe passage across/under the lines. I was very impressed. Totally in contrast to our state of affairs in every aspects of rail transportation at home.

True-profits for the shareholders at the expense of the natural world-shortsighted & uncaring at an extreme level🙁

I’ve been returning to Spain for decades and love the country and the people. Possibly my best ever holidays in the motorhome were trips to the Picos de Europa and the Northern/central parts of Spain. Madrid and Cordoba also a highlight. I love it! My rather limited Spanish has on occasions been a source of mirth mind but always made my self understood without embarrassment due to the kindness and understanding of the recipients.. It does grow on me!

In all seriousness, David we returned home on a train to the north of England after our Spanish trip. What an eye opener and eye sore. Dreadful experience both in and out of the carriage in the UK. Rubbish dumped along the entire length of the line and a cold uncomfortable journey inside to boot. I was ashamed. Will the promise of ‘better’ rail links for the north materialise? I doubt it! Forget the papers the truth is out there for all to plainly see!
