2023 Where to go?
OK, so I lazily copied the title of, one of my previous, rare, threads but I am looking deformed suggestions/help.
As we all know it’s good to have a Plan B so, after Plan A-go away mid May to end June 2023-was thwarted by a end of May wedding invitation Plan B was go away early April to Portugal via Santander.
Then, on a CMC rally at Pentewan, we mentioned our plans to a lovely couple we see there each year-to find they are heading there in March.
So Plan C was hatched, go earlier and have a few days with them…………….but BF don’t sail from Plymouth to Santander till end of March………..so onto Plan D!
Looking at Portsmouth out as this will be new to us, on the new Santona for two nights, then heading down to Albufeira, then slowly head back along the Spanish coast to around Valencia/Tarragona and then back to Santander and the ferry to Plymouth.
Looking for info on enroute sites to Albufeira and then well liked sites along the Spanish coast. Have some ideas but know lots of you, AD for example, have done this area and wanted to rap into that knowledge.

I posted this when someone else was asking similar questions:
It is some years since I last went to Portugal in the motorhome but you can read my comments about the trips we have made >here<.They cover routes I have used and the places visited but are now rather dated but you may find them useful because I suspect much is still valid. A major change is probably in the motorway system, routes, charges and how they are paid and the Algarve will be more developed.

Hi Allan, I have no idea about campsites but you really ought to visit Porto before you head to the south of Portugal.

Have visited most of the sites now from Gib along the Southern coast and up to Alicante and some beyond, stayed on about 10, walked around many but didn’t even get out of the car at quite a few (our choice).
Really not sure of your wants & needs, budget or desires …..
Without wishing for negative feedback afterwards from you or others, on that routing given we prefer coastal / beach sites we might choose to stay at -
Bella Vista at Manilva / Duquesa- smart, compact site & pitches, beachfront, some road noise, popular so pricy. Was UK owners.
Cabopino - Terraced & wooded, lots of seasonals, bit rustic, adjoins AP7, Marina & beach a short walk, quite popular.
El Pino at Torox, up on the hill, quite pleasant. John ‘Jaydug’ has happily overwintered there for years. Coast is a bit barren that area we found.
NB Would avoid immediate area around and west of Almeria City unless you like the sprawling plastic greenhouse horticulture. See it to believe it.
Cuevas Mar near Vera. Was a bit rustic but acceptable mid market site, 50% of site is a screened off FKK option if desired, beach is a short walk, nice enough general touring area. Avoid if during the huge lively Music festival period.
Camping Alannia Guardamar, Alicante. Was pleasant enough, beach short walk, compact, popular, some bungalows, quite pricy. Sister to the CMC Rally at promoted Alannia Costa Blanca site - a very very large off the coast site village (not our choice).
Enjoy planning but suggest stay fluid / flexible and be prepared to move on. Most sites are usually happy to just pay reception as you stay - not days in advance ( unlike CMC terms).M

Hi montesa, As I said only just seen this but thanks for the response.
We prefer sites that have reasonable size pitches and decent facility blocks but, as you have mentioned, this can be a somewhat difficult task.
The actual site size is not important.
Budget is flexible, we have paid over €60 a nights to be with our family but this was on a site that we felt was more than worth it after visiting to check it out.
Like you we would probably stay on the coast but, as with the, very attractive looking Bella Vista, you may be looking at pitches that are tight-it seems that you may park the car other than on the pitch-and at €34+ a night its coming on for double the ACSI rate for many sites at the time we will there.
Cabopino is one that is penciled in, as are Turiscampo/Camping Albufeira, and La Roselda, and then somewhere in the Alicante area followed by Valencia so any recommendations for those areas would be good.
