A good enjoyable race last Sunday and well done to Ferrari for getting both drivers on the podium. Mercedes haven't sorted their problems yet. Lets hope they improve soon or they'll be left behind.

If anyone wants a freebie overnight about two miles from Eau Rouge corner then I can recommend Petit Coo car park. Le Baron restaurant adjacent is reasonable too. There's a go kart track if you want to release your inner LH/MV.

    Evening

It's been 2 great races so far, brilliant to see the field with close racing. It's early days of a new concept but I think the budget cap isn't really having an effect. It only applies to the top teams as everyone else still doesn't have that cap to spend in the first place.

I'm a staunch MB/ LH follower but I'm loving the fact that there's opportunity for the others now. Great fighting with Max and Charles, total respect on the track. Ferrari are looking a real contender, long time coming.  Makes me wonder though if and when Merc up their game the same respect will be there when Max and Lewis go wheel to wheel again, and, with Charles and Carlos in the mix?

Seems to be a long time since we had an F1 posts so here goes. I know the fortunes if F1 teams go in and out with the tide but I am wondering if we are beginning to see the emergence of a strong Red Bull team, which we have not seen for a few years now? Ferrari seem to be having a lot of bad luck at the minute and not just from mechanical issues. Mercedes are still struggling although George Russell seems to have a better measure of the car compared to LH? Far too early to make any predictions as there is a long season ahead! Mind you good to see Sergio Perez fighting at the front.

Ferrari's poor reliablity made for a pretty boring race in Azerbaijan so i hope they sort themselves out. I suspect Mercedes will sort out their problems to make the driver comfortable but the car still won't be anygood?

Does make you wonder if the FIA deliberately change the regulations every so often just to shake the teams up to avoid the long term dominance of just one team?

I thought that was the idea David to even out the field.

Spectacular crash yesterday. It says much for the safety features embodied in current F1 cars. Crash like that in your average road car and you would need more than a couple of paracetamol.

Amazing to think that there were those opposed to the introduction to the Halo. Apparently it was the late Charlie Whiting who pushed for the introduction of the Halo whilst others well known in the sport were against it.

It was an exciting race and good to see Carlos get his first win and good to see Sergio sneak into second place.

Spectacular crash aside, it's good to see close racing which I would presume is down to the new regs.? It was also good to see the whole build up, race and post race discussions on C4. I don't pay for luxuries like sky sports so that was great, I didn't feel at all guilty neglecting my site works for an afternoon of brilliant racing.

What on earth did those protesters think they'd achieve? Surely not trying to get their point across to 400,000 petrolheadsyell

Good to see Merc back in the mix, just a pity George wasn't in it as well.

Anyone else think that Ferrari need to sort out their strategy and team orders?

Roll on next weekend, even if it's only the highlights for me!

Another great drive by Verstappen, he was a class above everyone else.  Another strange decision by Ferrari which cost Leclerc even more points.  Don’t the team want him to win the world championship, seems like a distant dream now

It was an amazing drive by Max. Not sure if the extra speed came just from the new engine or whether there have been developments elsewhere? Obviously decision made to take a new engine on a track where you can overtake which helps! I think it's only Red Bull and Ferrari that have won races this season. I can't remember what year it was but one season I seem to recall 8 different cars winning the first 8 races which does tend to make it more interesting.

Our watching habits have changed a bit over the years. When it was live on the BBC we would watch most races live regardless of time of day. As we don't have Sky we now watch on Channel 4. We do like the presentation team on 4, however if a race is on at an unsociable hour we will record and probably only watch bits and for those races we won't even avoid the sports media desperately trying to avoid seeing the results!!!

Forgive me for this rather old fashioned view but today’s drivers seem to be more akin to video gamers such is the technology involved. Driving skills like those we saw decades ago don’t seem to as evident. May be I’m the one behind the times but I just can’t get as excited about F1 as I used to.

You mean like Stirling Moss who said he used to drive round the track looking at all the good looking young ladieswink

I would accept that it doesn't look quite like the seat of the pants stuff we had years and years ago, probably before I started seriously watching. But things were never going to stay the same and they must be getting something right otherwise they wouldn't fill the European tracks with so many customers if they didn't think it worth being a fan. Perhaps it's more of a personality lead sport now compared to what it used to be?

You only have to look at the g forces pulled by the drivers to know it’s not a game.  The g force is not only generated on corner entry but also the violence of braking

You are right, Oneputt, in the 70s I was competing in rallies across the Midlands and North of England. The car, a Ford escort sport was developing around 90 bhp, old school driving skills were then needed to make cars like this competitive. Some Fiat 500 ‘road models’ today, straight out of the dealerships are pushing over twice that BHP. I’m not so sure the drivers today are better than those of yesteryear. For the record I personally wasn’t that competitive but I did enjoy it!

Agreed, the technology seems to be such a significant feature today. I read an article couple of years back which suggested most up and coming drivers train on simulators, some F1 drivers too. Helps with specific track recognition, hand eye coordination and reflex. All these ‘tools’ highly developed from VR gaming technologies. Not saying it’s wrong, just evolved and now different. And then there is the advanced tech in the cars and pit teams themselves. The telecom/telemetric systems between car, driver and pit staff. I’m just stating why I don’t find it as alluring as in the past.

Congratulations Max on winning the WDC after a very disrupted race.  I’m sure he would have liked to have done it in the dry with full race distance.  Still being 20 secs ahead of second placed man was a great achievement

That is another season over. Dominated by Red Bull I suppose one would have the say but all teams scored points. The latter being important to the lower ranked teams as they get more money if they score points. With Seb retiring and three other drivers not having places in frontline F1 next year there will be some changes for next year.

Anyone interested in getting up close (fairly!) and personal with a Red Bull F1 car you could always hop over to MK on Saturday 10th December for the Home Run event

So the 2023 season has started with a dominant drive by the 2 Red Bulls with a fantastic third place from Fernando Alonso.  I can see why Hamilton has signed on the dotted line of his new contract

It seemed to be Fernando Alonso providing the entertainment todaywink Driver of the Day as well. I am always a bit biased as far as Red Bull are concerned but it was good the see Sergio Perez making it a one two for Red Bull.

Don’t understand, most of the back end of the Aston is in fact Mercedes, obviously the concept is different as is the aero

I think Aston Martin have been on a serious recruitment drive in the last six months and it wouldn't surprise me if a few ex RB staff are now working for them. Don't know if that is what Peedee meant? Other than that I don't know of any technical tie up between the two.
