Saving a pitch as you are booking in

following on from the early arrival story, which I completely agree with if it says 1pm then it should be 1pm. To add to thus we arrived at the required time at Castleton to find 2 units already their booking in, when we finally were let in there was a caravan outfit behind us didn’t take a great deal of notice until we arrived at the service pitches of which there are 8 ish in on separate area and found a women stood on a pitch saving it for the outfit behind us. Total cheek and disrespect for not only the rules but also fellow members

    Yes, it’s been discussed before. It is rude, bad manners, ignorant and very selfish. I’ve seen people write on here that such a person should be told in no uncertain terms that it's first come, first served and she should move herself because you will be reversing onto that pitch.

    I suppose it comes down to how badly you want that particular pitch and whether you want the aggro of dealing with the situation and then potentially having those people for neighbours🤷🏻‍♂️.

    Inform her it’s not occupied until the wheels of a unit are on it, not her feet! I’ve seen chairs, tables etc. used to acclaim occupational  rights. Very disrespectful in my opinion.

    Again totally annoying and I've seen this done. 

    In your situation if I wanted that pitch particularly, and reall- really wanted it then I would ask her if she had the pitch number fob already and if not I would have taken the pitch. I emphasise again there would have to be a very good reason why I wanted that particular pitch to do that mind.

    In some mitigation some people do pick a pitch when booking in by its number if they have been there before by asking if it's free and taking it there and then. That could have happened here and within the rules. One doesn't have to drive around looking for pitches. If however they were behind you when you booked in then no excuse.

    If it really bothered you then have a word with the warden.

    It would be interesting to hear from a warden their opinion of the occurrence and possibly give a suggestion of what you should have done in that instance.

    I've done that before, Corners, but been told by the warden there are others on site choosing pitches so I’d need to go there and see if it's free. That seemed sensible I thought.

    Yes, how pray can they, the staff know if a pitch is newly occupied at busy times until all arrivers report back. There may be several out looking! Some take their time, set up, go to the toilet, cup of tea, walk the dog and then wander up to report in! Some longer I’d bet! Unless of course you are the only arrival that day or last one in!

    To be honest Nellie if they are brazen enough to do this I’m pretty sure that confrontation all round would be inevitable. Fancy members placing wardens in this position, totally selfish. No matter how diplomatic the staff are in tackling this they would be considered jobsworths, busybodies or plain rude by many such folk.

    I’ve seen this and it is so sad that people can be so rude to do it.you have been looking forward to a holiday ,after a long drive to put up with this.shame on you selfish people

    Then wait there In front of the pitch, you will be first in line to get your unit on. But there again is it worth getting your dander up for and ruining your stay just to make a point to someone who clearly doesn’t give a toss about you or others? Or that time old etiquette of waiting and the first come first served notion.

    If she wouldn’t move there could be a big q due to others vehicles not being able to pass.

    But who is causing this? The staff would then have to intervene, like I say is it worth your effort and anger for those that clearly don’t give a phut about the rest of us? What other solution is there?

    +1  it is an hypothetical situation and as I said it would only have happened if I really-really-really-really... wanted that pitch. I can't imagine it would ever come to that for me anyway.

    Good point who would get the blame. She is preventing you getting on the pitch, you are blocking the road. How would the people behind view this.

    Just a variation on that same selfish theme! Park your car next to theirs and explain you thought it was a car parking pitch they had occupied!

    If you want that pitch check the reg on the caravan matches the one on the car then ask them if they will move the car because you want the pitch

    Done the same, once, many years ago, to be told the same, TW. Wardens won't let you take a pitch on booking in, if there are others looking for pitches.  Must admit, that makes sense.

    If they won’t move then just go and see the warden.
    Like the park your car on the pitch next their car

    I really don’t see an amicable solution even if you involve the wardens. Yes, the rightful conclusion may just be concluded but all involved people will be either vexed, angered, plain disappointed or wallowing in their success! Is it worth it? Possibly so! All for the sake of one selfish arriver?

    What I put are just suggestions. Have to admit though if I really wanted the pitch I would have it. But to be honest there are not many pitches on a caravan club site that good unless you are in a really scenic area.

    Whilst I agree it is rude and shouldn’t happen, at Castleton at least I wouldn’t be bothered which service pitch I got. They are in a separate area and personally I don’t see anything that would make me want a specific one.

    I would just start to reverse onto the pitch. If the person wouldn’t move then I would stop reversing till they moved. Bare in mind I would be blocking the road while waiting.

    I think it must vary by site and by wardens, we've certainly done it a fair number of times I but just on those sites we've been to a lot. 

    Obviously if there was already an outfit on it, we'd come back with the fob but that never happened at all.

    I’m confused Corners, what have you done? Not circumnavigated the fair system surely? Not you and not then suggesting the wardens let you do it! Please tell me I’ve misunderstood!🤪

    I used to like the system at Cherry Hinton, Cambridge ~~  there the New Arrivals are held in a Queue until they have booked themselves and 'van in BUT are then sent on a 'walk around' to find the pitch of choice. They then return to the office, inform the staff of pitch number, then go and park yer wheels !
