At the ever popular Hawes  sat in the queue three bodies run of into the site a couple holding something in there hands, two return a couple of minutes later.Booked in and set of on the tour of pitches, saw the one I fancied and slowed down only to see one of the bodies I’d seen enter the site earlier run onto the pitch,I thought sod you mate and started reversing onto pitch he came running around to side of car gesticulating I said sorry is this your pitch he stupidly replied no,too which I promptly reversed onto pitch he walked of sulking.it turned out the other two were motorhome crew that had sneaked on and placed there obligatory”this pitch is occupied by” sign.I enjoy challenging the selfish and will carry on doing so.

No there's nothing to legitimise, we are talking about about a caravan pitch here not a legal matter, once I'm setting up the the wife will pop over let the warden know the pitch number and perhaps continue the friendly chat from check in, we are on holiday, it would be a good idea for some to remember why they are there, for a relaxing holiday.

So ....  we can all jump the queue so we can then relax on a pitch ... sounds to be a plan! 🙄

No one mentioned legalities. It’s a matter of good manners and friendliness. See earlier posts. Those by MSF, in particular.

I’m not sure I’d leave someone I cared about in a situation of possibly being challenged and/or abused for blocking others from selecting that pitch. Your choice.🤷🏻‍♂️

I like your style. Reading all this makes me wonder why there is never fisticuffs on pitches.

I'm not jumping the queue I've checked in and paid before we walk around, are you suggesting that the the first in has to choose their pitch, put their unit on the pitch, let the warden know witch pitch before anyone else is allowed to choose a pitch, that would be ridiculous.

Yep, no pitching in the wrong place according to a peg and a friendly warden to lend a hand to those who need it.

No, you’re not. That's a myth and could only happen if it was the last pitch of the correct type available.

Have you ever asked politely for an alternative? Was it explained to you why you were "stuck with it". In nigh on 50 years of membership I have never been in the position you describe and other posters here have said the same. In my book, that's the reality as C&CC are very customer centred these days.

Our"escort"advised that if the pitch that had been allocated was not suitable, we were able to choose from any others

Well we must have been very lucky as in all the 44 years of Caravaning as we have never experienced any of these pitch problems. We have used the creep forward at Bunree and Trewethett but always accepted what pitch has been available otherwise. As we spend most of our time off site we have never found it an issue.

Because of OHs now disabilities we ask for a pitch if possible to enable us to be near the disable facilities

Most site staff are very helpful in assisting with this and we are normally given a specific pitch and barrier card and all other information on booking in to save me having to return to the office

It has been noted that at times other members who are also booking in have given me "the stare"

Arch,  See my earlier post { final post on Pg 3 of this thread }  of the system at Cherry Hinton, Cambridge !   A delightful example of what you are decrying, due to site requirements but none the worse for that  wink

ABM do they all have to book in then wait enmass at the gate like a race then off they all go, or do they do as I've said we do on sites where possible, book in pay the fee drive through the gate, park on verge then walk around the site to choose a pitch I've never had a problem with this, some on this thread seem so sensitive to the thought but you will have a far better perspective of pitches and locations by walking tban driving around and around in circles I do appreciate this isn't possible on all sites due to parking and honestly it doesn't give you an unfair advantage over others.

Try looking at the site plan for Cherry Hinton then you may understand?

I beg to differ, Arch. As I have suggested repeatedly in this thread, parking your wife on the pitch then wandering off to collect your unit (which you seem to dump somewhere on the grass) with no attempt to go to the office until much later to formalise your claim to said pitch means you are unfairly blocking others from choosing it during the period your poor wife is repelling invaders. That, in the minds of some of us is plain cheeky.

Cherry Hinton is a special case requiring a different approach.

If you read all the posts you will find it covered again and again. We're going round in circles here repeating the same old.

Sorry TW but I fail to see your reasoning we will have to disagree,

I think any warden would not rely on fobs claimed to indicate what pitches are free with a number of customers going around the site looking for a pitch as I've often been told when asking what pitches are free, I don't recall my wife ever having to repel any invaders we may be fortunate but we have never come across any aggressive behaviour on any site only the opposite people are generally very friendly.

"Sorry TW but I fail to see your reasoning……"

I think that says it all, Arch, and unfortunately you probably will never see my reasoning 😢. Your second para re wardens and fobs further indicates this. Oh well, I tried😀.

But you're not comparing like for like. On the sites you use people arrive in dribs & drabs so can walk the site to choose their pitch. The club sites with their strict arrival times tend to encourage the Le Man's race start ....

But as. Oft said if the UK had the space of the site and area of many overseas sites? the procedure for arrivals could well be different and of course it would also a change of mindset of many in these countries and not all arrive together

I asked a simple question but it appears you cannot answer without a personal remark Dave.undecided

Also you haven't answered my question so I assume it was abroad, and if so your observations about what happens there is not relevant in a thread about UK club sites I would say.
