They came up against a top, top team in the final, and it was a big ask for them to win.

A pity most of the match was on when I was fast asleep. I had my spring booster jab on Friday and having had a bit of a reaction didn’t sleep at all well on Friday night so I was spark out last night😴

So very sad to see that Jofra Archer has, like so many of the younger quick bowlers,  gone down with 'Lower Back Troubles ' and that is before he has got his arm back up to Test Match Pace.

Did I hear somebody saying that Broad & Anderson are both " Past It " snort harrummmppphhh !

When I saw the Kiwi’s first innings score I started to believe the hype uttered by the new skipper. Then I watched yet another inept batting display and thought same old same old😱

Don't tempt me, Roger, Please !

Could ( should ?? undecided ) have gone to the local Jubilee Garden Party instead of watching 60 minutes of torture on Beeb this evening   yell !!

Nice to see a bit of a fight back by the England bowlers this morning.

I fear 277 to win will prove to be well beyond these batsmen unless they frame themselves

ps “frame thisen” is what you say in these parts to get somebody to shape up.

Well so far they have framed up, or at least Root and Stokes have, after an excellent spell of new ball bowling in the morning session. Hope that they can continue in the same vein, but fear it will be "the same old England".😞

That’s more like it. Well done Joe Root and we mustn’t overlook the magnificent contribution of Foakes to that win 👏👏👏

I wasn't confident at all, Brian, but my fears were groundless. Great display by Root, well backed up by Foakes. I do think that NZ will be a tougher proposition in the next test though. All we can hope for is that the weather provides those sort of conditions that suit our bowlers more than theirs, and that the English openers contribute fully rather than getting out just when they seem to have weathered the initial storm.

Please excuse my tardiness in responding  Nell I have been struggling today  --  very difficult to type, etcetera, when one has one's foot trapped by one's lower mandible   surprised I really must stop having & posting , an opinion on everything  embarassed.

Oh deary deary me,  Is there any way I can re-write the Opening Post, please ???

After this weeks Crikit Test Match, well I think that's what it was, my 3 1/2 year old views would seem to be a bit out dated now, not of course that I am complaining, but some squad members have suddenly raised their heads above the parapet and seen the sunshine & folks entering the ground for no charge  and said, come on lads, lets entertain them !!

And entertain them they blooming well DID  surprisedcool

I got a text on Monday  from my GS who was up in Grantham asking if I’d like to go to Trent Bridge on the Tuesday and entry would be free.

I replied that it looked like it could be an interesting days cricket but unfortunately I couldn’t go. I now wish I’d moved heaven and earth to go, the cricket was a tad more than interesting !

Oh Dear, the New Skipper has caught something, and I don't mean a cracker of a slip catch either  surprised.  Hope he is fully recovered after another nights rest and that all the squad are safely isolated away from  Marcus T !!

I was wondering if Yorkshire Cricket would let fans in for nowt on the fifth day, but it seems they won’t have to make that very difficult decision ( for a Yorkshireman) cos this match ain’t going anywhere near a fifth day unless we get some biblical storms!

Indeed, Rog, it all seems to be softening round the corners [no personal comment intended embarassed] and quite likely to become very scrambled eggy things if they carry on !!

Just heard a TMS ex-spinner from the south-west state that England are fast approaching mediocrity ~~ from below surprised ouch !!

I wonder how many people would have expected England to get to a first innings lead when they were on 55 for 6.

Cometh the hour cometh the men. Take a bow J. Bairstow and J. Overton. What a shame that Overton couldn’t get those three runs.

    Game on!

Well I have to admit I was wrong and the match will go into the fifth day. Also Yorkshire Cricket Club have done the decent thing and made admission free tomorrow, how much cricket there’ll be is uncertain, the weather forecast isn’t promising.

Well played Jack Leach on getting a 10fer including two of the strangest dimissals I’ve ever seen.

Persisted it down this morning but it’s cleared up nicely this afternoon. At least the crowd eventually got 65 minutes play.

On to the rearranged match with India next. I can’t remember what the state of play is in that series.

Three things are certain in life, death, taxes and that Crawley will be out driving. Mind you the others in the so called “top order” haven’t covered themselves with glory in this match so far.

Now I've got my " Steam Engine Days" out of my system, well at least until next weekend,  I will give full ABM thoughts to the test match although it seems barmpot reasoning to me  to be playing it a year late due to whatever causes !  But I suppose money talks whatever languages are concerned  !

I Honestly think I'm growing potty !!  Woke up in midweek looking forward to the Test Cricket series against South Africa.  But the performance has been utterly appalling,  pretty much like the stuff that caused this particular thread to be started.

Once more unto the pits, dear friends.........  yell

The only good thing was the early finish to BBC 4's day at the test which allowed Brian to get well settled in time to watch Laura Muir  take another GOLD MEDAL.  That girl will go a long way  !!
