DFDS Newhaven Price Surprise
I had priced for my single crossing preferred dates, via the CMC, however, after seeing a post on another forum, that a car+van price was £75 on a Saturday, had a look at the DFDS website.
On the landing page it says "Car + 2 people from £80" so looks like no way a car & van would be £75............but it is!!
I looked at a few Saturdays and most are that price but not all.
I then quoted via CMC, and the price is £67.50!
The dates and crossing time are of no use to me, but maybe will suit others who see this, and I did notice when looking at DFDS that some daytime crossings are sold out already.

Following your post elsewhere I had a look myself - we're already booked on Brittany Ferries in June. But when I entered details for similar dates / times / accommodation it ended up at only £100 or so less than BF. So cheaper but not enough to account for the extra inconvenience.
But my dates weren't Saturdays - I'll go and have another look!
Have just done so and you're absolutely right (less than £300 including accommodation) so will bear this in mind for the future. Saturday sailings aren't that convenient for us however.
What are the DFDS ships like?

Hi Ian, Its a reminder to me not to assume as I thought there was no way you could get a single crossing for £75, £67.50 via the club, but you can!
Like you the route is not really convenient and the crossing time is a complete non starter for us, maybe when we were younger not do bad, but I am sure a divorce would cost more than I would save!
We are heading to Italy but calling to visit friends near Arnhem so its either a Harwich return, at £188, or out and back on different routes.
As our visit will be at the end of the trip that means a Hook return, at £111 plus a BF Plymouth to Roscoff outbound at £385-ouch!!
Last BF was a return in 2019 costing £275-this year £552 for same outfit and crossings.
Like I said, hopefully someone may be able to make use of the DFDS price.

We initially looked as our friends have used it a few times and really like it-well the price at least. They said the ships were fine for the short duration.
However, they are in a MH so stopping and catching up on sleep is quite easy, but not so if towing, and the thought of arriving at 0430, after probably no sleep, is one that we would not even consider, at any price.

Hi David, Seems we posted at same time.
Yes, the route no longer has a "caravan goes free" offer so a doubling of the price for us.
It is proving a bit of a conundrum this year due to the many factors, both unavoidable and of personal choosing, that affect our holiday but, suffice to say that, much as I resent the price a BF single from Plymouth and returning via Harwich is looking the best bet.
A return from Harwich is £300 less but means losing at least one day and going BF means we can go to Italy via Annecy, which was our missed 2020 destination, then onto Peschiera and Badiaccia on Trasimeno.
This is all becoming a more 'fingers crossed' exercise than I would have hoped but slight issues over a holiday are nothing in the scheme of things.

I booked DFDS back in November for our end of Sept return crossing, with the over 60's discount only bookable over the phone. Ours is a Friday 30th crossing and £134. At the time this was a good price, the best bit though is the time. It was the only mid-day crossing, 11:00 to 14:00 in 2 months, it was on our preferred return date and saves us extra driving so I took it.
I have just checked and the next day Saturday 1st Oct crossing, with a choice of two unsociable hours times would be £112 before the over 60's discount. I'm still happy, which makes a change.

“It’ll probably come as no surprise to those living locally that the M25 section on the south side of the Dartford Crossing has taken the top 2 spots on a list of the slowest motorways sections in England. According to a recent study published on the ‘Compare The Market’ website, not only did this section of the M25 rule the roost, a total of eleven M25 hotspots made the top 50 – which is over 20 percent of the entire list! Although this may be comforting news to those living in other parts of England, it highlights the plight of how painful commuting can be for road users that live anywhere near this area of the UK.”

It’s possible, even probable, that we had an OK journey to, or from, Dover however, our memories are of delays, diversions and even a missed ferry when using the M25.
Even though we wouldn’t need to, to get to Newhaven, is still not a journey I would look forward to but then our only journey to Harwich was a nightmare when, after delaying leaving Bournemouth till 7pm, to avoid traffic, we were first delayed and then diverted on leaving the M25 due to the A12 being closed.
Mind you, we once came close to missing a crossing from Plymouth but that’s another story!

Thats because of the tunnel delays, people do not seem to be able to drive at a sensible speed through it but slow down so much it causes massive tailbacks.
We use the section from Esssex into Kent fairly reguarly and most times its OK going into Kent but always slow on the homeward leg, sometimes painfully so.
