Haro to Ap68 directions
The last time we left Haro campsite , we found it difficult getting back to the AP68 heading towards Bilbao. We have a 12' length (car and caravan) and found the signposting poor. Can anyone give me the directions from leaving the site? I did have a map but we obviously took a wrong turn and want to avoid it again this year.

The first photo shows the route to AP-68 jct 8, past Lidl and Alcampo. the second heading north via the N-124 to jct 9. Just use google maps to preview the two options and then follow the directions via a sat Nav....or using google maps on a phone or tablet.

Hi HT, As BB says Google maps is very useful and Streetview is my default go to when looking at access to new sites.
It does sometimes catch you out when the routes in and out differ and put paid to just retracing your steps but not sure if that's the case here but a quick route, to an from the site, will help.
One good thing with Google maps, which I used last week, is that you can send the route to your mobile meaning that you have it to hand, or you could of course print it off.

IMHO, One of the best things about using a route planner (sat Nav, google maps etc) is for guidance in and out of an unfamiliar town/city. Most of us can picture the map showing the main arterial stuff which takes us within a few miles of our destination, but this is usually where the fun starts😉
even something 'simple' (as HT asks) like getting back on the 'main road' is made so much easier with todays devices.
a few seconds on google maps (phone or tablet) and the directions are there to (say) your required motorway access point.
for more 'complex' routing (choosing specific waypoints) on a longer journey, a bit more time might be needed, but the end result is an easy to follow route, clear warnings of upcoming junctions and other route info.
just ensure you check the 'planned route' against a map before leaving....
if HT isn't familiar with 'route planning' then perhaps a bit of a play on a phone might be a good 'tool' to have at his disposal.

A big drawback of Google maps routing for me is it takes no account of the outfit and can produce routes which are "no go" for larger vehicles. It is fine for a quick assessments of distances and checking with street view but I would not rely on it to give me a safe route.or accurate journey times.

Yes, I agree with you...our 6.4m x 2.12m van has the nr identical footprint as a Ducato XLWB panel van so we don't generally worry too much.
however, like you I use it more for a 'quick assessment' as we have a really good TomTom that links to my iPad which has TomTom's MyDrive software on it that allows for vehicle size.
tweaking MyDrive with waypoints for a favoured route will also send the waypoints when uploading/synching to the TomTom, which is the device I use for 'real' navigation.
however, google maps is fantastic for providing street view to verify the route with your own 'eyes'.
I also use Via Michelin for costs of fuel/tolls etc.
i wish there were a single tool that combined the best bits of all three apps...

Hi Peedee, Whilst what you say is correct re routes the use of Streetview is what will help avoid 'approach issues' so not sure what you mean by safe or accurate?
Like BB we also use via Michelin and there can be some small discrepancies, but I would bet that many people have sat navs that they use where the mapping is way out of date compared to Google maps/viaMichelin.
I get the impression that most of use sat nav as an aid to navigation, as opposed to blindly following it, and my first ever Tom Tom only had major roads, in Europe, on it so that helped!

Yes, I usually use google maps to give me a quick overview of the 'fastest' route, then I inspect this route against my own intuition/knowledge and a map, and then upload the resulting 'answer' into my satnav via s then takes me the general way I want to go with the satnav guiding me along that chosen route, not the other way around.

Absolutely right Peedee. My first mistake was to only download the directions to the site and not 'from' hence my post, trying to 'get it right this year !
We tried to go back the way we came but took a wrong turning at the roundabouts and ended up on minor roads with no passing places, hence my question. I do use Google maps regularly but it can be deceptive and as you so rightly say, doesn't take into account vehicle length.

Dead easy to do, have a little play with google maps, you'll soon be a confident user.
