Clean Air Greater Manchester

It seems flawed to me if no account is taken of how far you are driving within the zone.
From what I have read, you can drive around all day, causing a lot of pollution, and pay £10 for the day, but if the same vehicle travels only a couple of miles, for example to exit the zone, it will still cost £10.
Have I read that correctly?

I care way more about lives lost-I have priorities-lives trump money! Sorry but it’s a fact in my world🤷🏻♂️

That is probably right, it is a heavy hammer for a small nail so to speak. The only fair way would be for all vehicles to have a TAG that recorded how far they travelled and were charged accordingly but we don't seem to be at that stage yet?

It could be argued that motorhomes, being non essential and being used purely for leisure, should be charged more than similar sized vehicles carrying out essential journeys.

I think the general idea is to keep you, or one, out in the first place?
Also why would one do just that, a few miles I mean? In that were truly the case it would pay to park outside the zone and walk or bus those few miles?

Or perhaps get your MH serviced somewhere else. I would certainly not pay an £120 extra to get it serviced. Yes sad for the dealer but if it saves one life it will be worth it.

+1👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻

It could be equally suggested you have that attitude to lives that are lost to pollution issues to save money-it works both ways. It’s serious & planet wide & needs addressing🤷🏻♂️☹️

On my list HD, probably about a year, but remember I'm not the one complaining about this new initiative. It won't affect me but I support it as I will support any in my area.
Anyway more about quality of life than saving the planet in my view.
Are you getting one HD? and how's the motorhome?

As I said I support it and will support any in my area. Newcastle is currently discussing it. If it happens I'll gladly take the bus, or more likely train from the station 5 minutes away and be in the centre in 10 minutes from then. I can actually cycle in faster (in time) than cars at rush hour.
And what tax?
But surely isn't someone's and their families heath and quality of life far more important than jobs or your 'tax'

I think that there is a lot more to it than just the cost of living. This is the link to the BBC's article, but that is only part of reasons for the delay, more is to do with the slow uptake and production of electric vehicles.

Andy Burnham is specifically quoted as saying the delay is a result of many individuals and small businesses objecting to the implementation because they simply cannot afford to upgrade their vehicles. If he is going to wait until everyone has an electric vehicle, including vans and HGV's...............won't be in my lifetime. He states that the implementation has been put back until, I think, 2024?

It doesn’t matter if it’s classed as commercial or motorhome, a euro5 diesel van will still pay the tax.

Not sure how money cleans the air 🤔

Because it acts as a disincentive for people to take vehicles into any of the zones. Hopefully money raised is also used to promote and provide better public transport? Talk of Cambridge doing the same which could impact of both CMC and C&CC sites although at the moment it is only being considered.
