France ban all Brits

Lots of skiing holidays will now be in the balance, this was to be their recovery time after last year's disaster.
I can't see the ban being more than a flash in the pan. He is doing more harm by it than good, a definate shot in the foot move.
The tourist industry will be screaming at him to remove it. Hotels, Disney land Paris and the Alps all will not be happy with the little man.

Although it’s OK to travel to France as a tourist till tomorrow. If your going in a MH I wonder how you’ll fair on your journey through or travels within France. Clearly unlike when travelling by plane or train the number plate and UK sticker are a dead give away. Could lead to some interesting conversations with the Gendarmes, after being pulled over.

dont think it will be a "flash in the pan", and those that had booked sking holidays over the xmas break or Hotels/Disney land, will now probably have cancelled and be fighting to get a refund.
Companies such as TUI, who run most of the sking holidays have already announced massive flight cancellations, as for those going now hoping to beat the ban, i guess for the return trip they will only have to do as now, negative test before flying/ferry etc, PCR test on arrival and self isolate until such time as you get a PCR test negative result, unless of course Boris closes the UK border incoming from France
The harm has been done

Dont see anything in the rules that says that if you are already in France that you have to return immediately, and i guess that if you can prove you arrived before the ban then all should be ok, not sure re driving up from say Spain and the Gendarmes might take a different approach if they can prove that you crossed the border after the ban came into force, look out for those cameras

What difference does that make, you are not coming from the UK but from another EU country same as coming say from Germany or Italy?
The ban is of travel to/from the UK not banning UK citizens from travelling through France from another EU country. As far as I read it the ban is for everyone except French people going home, other EU citizens going home to a residence in another EU country and of course us.

Lots of these taking off from our local airfield when i was out with dogs this morning, I wonder where they might be headed ?

Agree, and tonights BBC news is reporting that their hospitals are already struggling to cope with the added demand Lots of EU countries are probably 1-2 weeks behind the curve of UK infections
p.s. Denmark already talking about going into full lock down
p.s. interestingly Austria went into almost total lock down a couple of weeks back, cases now reducing quite quickly and now they are opening up their ski resorts, should we have done the same then we could all have had a Very Merry Christmas

As yet these high figures have not yet caused hospital admissions to rise. In Scotland where today it was announced that Omicron is now the dominant strain hospital figures are going down. I know its still early days but I'm looking on the brighter side that it will be swift but not deadly. 😊

Agreed, hovering steadily around the 7.5k mark for a bit now, and average number of deaths actually falling gently, down to 115 per day from 125 a couple of weeks ago...

I hope the hospitals overseas are less busy than ours. Here’s a photo of ambulances queuing to unload patients at the main hospital at Truro - one chap was waiting in an ambulance for 25 hours earlier this week.

I’ve never, ever seen it like that - scary. At least the air ambulance isn’t sat there with them!

I found this translation of compelling reasons to enter France....these two elements look interesting
"British nationals and family members enjoying the provisions of the Agreement on the withdrawal of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland from the European Union and the European Atomic Energy Community."
(I'm not quite sure what 'enjoying the provisions' means....)
"Persons transiting for less than 24 hours in an international zone."
(Assume this means that if you can pass through France in 24 hrs, this is ok?)

I guess that relates to Brits owning French property granted settled status post Brexit?

Doesn't international zone men like at an airport or perhaps also Lille if you were changing trains

Bill there are many other 'reasons' listed, many of which refer to other nationals and location of property etc...I just noticed the two that might apply to normal Brit.
see about a third down the page for the compelling reasons section and English translation link.

Steve, yes that sounds plausible...although I will be 'transiting' in my MH😉

Seasonal greetings to all ...
........and so ended our ever fading hopes to escape overland to SE Spain via France in early January 22 for our 4th overwinter. 2 dogs = a Biscay Cruise booking is hopeless.
Do wonder how confidence to book any overseas trips can be restored with yet another snap travel ban / major change.
The ever expanding current list of technicalities for Caravan & MH tourists (plus all the CV19 issues) will certainly now put off many people.
So we will now endure more short grey twilight Pennine days (high risk cv19 area) & await positive changes, albeit not too hopeful, for a trip later this winter (to low risk SE Spain).

I wouldn't think there would be given you would be travelling north from Spain. The ban is only for those coming into France from the UK.
I would think you would need proof that you were in Spain before the ban was implemented and that you had a return booking booked. If the police stop you then show them the proof and reassure them you are going home back to the UK.
If you are already there what chouce do you have other than wait it out or try and get a crossing from Spain.

Sounds like a ‘compelling reason’ to me assuming you need to get home by whatever means you cross the channel? Beyond that presumably it’s just the usual entry malarkey e.g. passenger location form and pre-booked day 2 test, negative test within previous 48hrs & vaccination certificates.
