    A third ODI victory, and a clean sweep series win. All that with a team that was only assembled a couple of days before the series started, as all the original ones selected have had to isolate due to a member of the squad testing positive for Covid. Just goes to show the strength in depth that we have in this country at the moment.

    Well that was very enjoyable. We had good seats in the long room and saw a really good game. I’ve never seen anyone hit the ball out of the ground at Headingley but Liam Lawrence did it twice! He hit one over the new stand that was a prodigious hit.

    That and the catch by Adil Rashid were worth the admission money on there own.

    Sadly, Nellie, Ben Stokes has taken an indeterminate Leave of Absence from all forms of cricket to help his left index finger improve, and much more importantly, help him keep his mental condition on track.

    i wish him the very best in his immediate future,  ABM

    On another thread someone opined that it’s not cricket unless it’s played over five days with a red ball.

    The only way this shower will take a match to five days is if it’s persists it down for two days solid. Mind you with this week’s forecast that looks distinctly possible.

    Four more ducks in a test match first innings. Whilst this is certainly a “ test” I don’t see how it could possibly be called a “ match”. This lot would struggle to “ match” many a village team😱

    Scary Roger, that the Selectors could pick a Red Ball cricketer with a tremendous reputation, but, alas, one who last played RB cricket back in February. He batted poorly and even his wicket keeping was a little ragged.  What did you say   oh sorry I should have said Buttler at the start shouldn't I  embarassed  Imagine selecting a team with Four Quick bowlers, No Full time Spinners and then win the toss & choose to bat.

    I dread to think what the Aussies will do to this side, should the Tour down under actually take place Which I Doubt !

    Would that be the same Aussies who were just bowled out for their lowest score for 144 years by Bangladesh?

    I see that England were saved by the weather again, oh and a fighting century by the only test match standard batsman in the team, ( I can’t bring myself to call them “ batters”)

    Hows this for a statistic . Root scores  109 from  172 balls, Sibley scores 28 from 133 balls. There lies  the problem.

    I read a report of an interview with the England batting coach who said that the likes of Sibley, Crawley and Lawrence were good players because he had seen them in practice

    All I can say to that is look at any number of club golfers take a practice swing you’ll se some wonderful swings. Then watch them when they’ve got a ball in front of them and you’ll see some truly horrible swings.

    I rest my case🤓

    Careful what you do with your case Roger !!  Anderson OUT, Broad Out, Stokes OUT, Archer OUT , Stone OUT, Woakes OUT . . . . . . . . and I've just strained my right hand getting mi crikit bag out of the shed.    What a state to be in after having just been docked points & pounds for a slow over rate by the Match Referee  ( Young Broad's Father no less undecided )

    Surely it's time his name appeared in the New Years Honours list? How many more occasions will the Burnley Express come to In-ger-lands' rescue?

    Had a phone call from the Pharmacy Head Office saying that my latest prescription was ready at 15.35 today --  Before I collected it I should have checked that they had included something extremely efficient for a bad side !!

    Absolutely APPALLING  SO THERE !!

    Not apologising for shouting ~~ think yourselves lucky that I've not used stronger language 'cos Brian is utterly LIVID !

    Utterly Appalled at the goings on at Owd Trafford over the last 24 hours.  It would appear that certain players & back-up-staff have found a way to get  1 )  out of their commitment  to play 5 Test Matches  in England this year     2 )  get back home to prepare for the I P L !

    The ONE saving grace I find in this whole sorry shambles is that Jonny Bairstow will not be  "Dropped" from the England team for this, the game that many don't want  { excepting the money-paying FANS , naturally }

    I think now that I ought to refrain from commenting any more on certain parts of this forum, purely for my own welfare { Steaming / smoking socks are doing A B M  no favours at all }

    Try supporting the women’s team Brian. They’re on a roll at the moment two really  close matches in the ODI series. Next one up tomorrow

    It's always nice to get one over on the old enemy, but yesterday's T20 hammering was something else!

    Arise Sir Buttler.

      T20 Semi-Final Wednesday  --  a Match too far for England, alas  but it leaves them with something to aim for next time !!  As I said on the footy thread -- you have only so many trophies to play for and / or win wink so an occasional change in winner keeps even the second rated teams  dreaming  dreams of Glory !!

    Seems rather like we have heard THIS  Tale before !! ~~  At least T'Alex had mercy on  Brian and tucked away a couple of penalties.

    Right now I'm wondering what Anderson & Broad did to dodge playing in this shambolic team undecided

    I am dee-lighted to say that it has been explained to this old goat that  Anderson & Broad have been left out of the First Test Squad  to ensure that they don't catch anything nasty from the returning Stokes !!  Oodles of No-balls which, in the modern manner, are ignored by on-field officials unless they get an alarm call in one ear or the other  --  then it seems after being rested for what-ever reason Stokes has a sore knee now !

      Well our front line quick bowling Duo can at least get the life stories  edited ready for proof reading groan, growl, snarl !!

    Now I'm off to bed in a darkened room without communication systems !embarassed

    Barely Awake even now, XT  !!

    Up not too bright  but early to get to my mates Garage to book the Ducato in for M O T & Service along with vital checks on alternator & the battery which is giving me trouble frown.

    That's done & booked in for 4th January so I must struggle on until then --  Hoping against hope all goes well on my morning out tomorrow to attend the Wedding of a Gt Nephew to his lovely Lady.  Spent an hour or two kicking the moths out of my  " Not Too  Dated "  clothes as well as running a cool iron over things .  { Wonder if I will remember how to fasten a tie decently  undecided  }

    Now, back to writing more Cards    innocent

    It seems that tying a proper Windsor knot is a skill that many have never learned .... I despair of some men on telly with a tie around their neck that looks to have a Granny knot in it. I rarely wear a tie .... weddings & funerals ... but I can still tie a proper Windsor knot from being taught at about 5 yrs old.

    I'd take any tie knot at the moment and pull it very tightly around certain players' necks surprised
