New Site Booking System

When you say ”You Said” exactly who is this “you” that said they want a deposit added to bookings and was this put to a vote of members?
As far as I can see, this is a club driven initiative to gather in thousands of pounds of members money up front and draw on the interest.
The only people who constantly whinge about not being able to book because others got their first are speculating about the reasons. They are claiming that it’s all down to people making speculative bookings, what is the real data behind that assumption? I will be submitting an FOI request to the club to get the real figures. As you are so keen on ‘you said, we did’. I say, please drop any plans to introduce a deposit scheme, just to pander to the vocal minority who want the club to hold open pitches across the network just in case these late bookers fancy a last minute booking.

I mostly agree with your thoughts, iDriver, and I posted similarly earlier in the thread.
You're wasting your time pursuing it, though, as the FOI Act does not apply to other than Govt and public bodies.
Just go with the flow. It's nothing worth getting wound up about.

N1805 posts "am happy to pay a deposit by Credit Card and balance on arrival again with a Credit Card in reception. If it causes a queue so be it as it is my preferred choice."
If you are happy to pay the deposit (electronically) by credit card well prior to arrival, and are happy to use the same card for the balance, why would using that same card at home, prior to arrival (exactly as the deposit) be any different..
ie....why the need to use the same card in two different ways?

...and for us...and pay your metered electric account at the same time😉

The unnecessary delay as you put it is not just for payment it also serves many other purposes such as introductions, give the warden the opportunity to explain the layout of the site and if the site is busy indicate what pitches are available, ask if you have a dog or dogs and explain the rules etc, I may have been lucky but I have never been to a site club or commercial where it is not necessary to check in on arrival, the arrival check in is normally at the end of a long journey the payment normally takes about 3mins so enjoy the friendly welcome and start your holiday.

If the balance is taken automatically, the CC were only proposing the day before, not weeks. Therefore there is little difference, apart from paying before speeding up check ins, particularly at busy times. Having used the system for a year with the other club, it definitely improved the booking in procedure over the CAMC and was generally quicker, even though we were shown to our pitch / choice of pitches.

If they used the same system as the C&CC there is no need to exit your vehicle. Welcome pack handed over, asked if we had been to the site before, then if we had used any of them. On our first visit there was a fair bit of verbal information, on subsequent ones minimal as they were happy we were familiar with their sites. I really don’t need to be told every time I visit how to pitch to the peg!

I don't mind a 'friendly welcome' but it's not necessary if one has visited a site before...or, as Steve says, to instruct us all on how to pitch....again...
Agreed, a 3 minute wait isn't a problem....but if you're 5th or 6th in a queue, then 15-18 mins might be a tad annoying...
one doesn't need 'welcoming' to your regular pub or cinema, telling you which beers they have or where the emergency exits are or giving you a 'pack' of menus...most of us are happy to manage on our own...
the point is that, if we are moving to electronic booking, deposit and balance payment prior to arrival, along with (possibly) ANPR to get us in without entering the office, why would anyone want to...
We all know wardens are nice folk, but a friendly chat isn't the first thing on my mind when arriving, when it's not necessary

It does seem that the ccc do have more staff on their sites than this club?
If St Neots and Sandringham are typical.
I do understand that pay and conditions are quite a bit less also
As those who have jumped ship to this club have said

Forgive me but I don't quite understand your logic? What would be wrong with, or what inconvenience would it cause to you to automatically pay the day before arrival. If everyone chose that route there would be no advantage in speeding up the arrival process. Whilst I can see that on a quiet mid week day it would make little difference, however on a very a busy site with perhaps a100 units arriving on a Friday it would slow things down quite a bit if everyone decided on that option? Advance payment allows other options of booking in, especially on busy weekends that don't involve going into reception at all. Any advantage will be lost if sufficient people decide to pay on arrival.

+1 for metered power. . .PAYG👍🏻

I've been a member of the CCC for over 10 years and for the first 5 or 6 years a pitch was allocated, although occasionally i requested a different pitch which was usually no problem.
For the past 4 or 5 years I've been offered a selection of pitches to choose from after i've been asked if my preference would be near the wash block, a more secluded spot, near the play area etc.

The great C&CC pitching myth....
within your chosen pitch type (and there are more of C&CC) the warden might 'help' by taking you to an area that contains this type and to accommodate your wishes for sun/shade, north/south facing, near to facs etc....
Accepting this 'help' isn't mandatory, and another pitch within the correct type is fine if it suits you better...
Nowhere near as draconian as you think...

I mentioned before about ways to get people in the gate swiftly. One tried and tested way which would work for those wishing to pay on site is to check they have a booking then get them on site to come back later to pay. Works well on most sites.
Trouble with ANPR is that you have to have a barrier post to hang the cameras on!! I only have a traffic cone

Same as PD and W. No problems at all. There never have been issues in the near 50 years we've been members as it's always been possible to request a different pitch without being subjected to interrogation.

The main difference, apart from the automated payments is the "escort to the pitch" with C&CC, on big sites it's someone on a bike leading you to a possible pitch, making sure you're ok and pointing out anything you need to know. Due to the minimum bookings on some sites the turnover at the gate isn't as high as CAMC sites so queues are rarely too lengthy which reduces waiting times etc. The automated payment has certainly made things easier.

Presumably, this would mean the site manager being outside the office, checking folk in as they arrive...hopefully then with a nod and a wave...straight in, just missing the traffic cone😉

Perhaps not a disability in itself, but a lack of schooling (for whatever reason), mental health issues, maybe even a gambling addiction would render a good number of folks virtually incapable of good financial understanding and management. It’s one aspect of other issues. Doubt many such folks would be touring alone though. We help organise Mum’s finances for her, she couldn’t do it alone. Too many unscrupulous people out there waiting to pounce on the vulnerable.
Anyone remember those small compartmented tins you could buy, with coin slots in the top? Rent, Food, Coal, Electric...... I have my Grandma’s as a keepsake. We used to count the coins in it, she taught me how it worked🥰Lots of relevant points about money management, it is what suits the individual of course, and the circumstances. We have happily been able to embrace the new technology with the right kind of accounts, the right tech equipment, but it’s like other things, don’t forget the old methods, they can come in very useful😁

I don't pay in a taxi, the window cleaner, the gardener or the cleaner in cash! I no longer use a cheque book either. it's banks transfer or go without.
I think the only thing I pay for in cash these days is the weekend newspapers. £2.50 on a Saturday and £3 on a Sunday. I've always got a little cash on me and do keep it some in the car for parking although I try and use a parking app if possible.
Cash is so dirty these days.
Can't wait until this country follows Sweden's example and becomes more or less cashless.

The condition that OH it seems by the letter we have received today after her visit to the frailty clinic last week when I have been on line to. understand it more (the consultant we saw did advise to look it up when we recieved his letter)does actually mention about finances as one of the symptoms
Which does seem to dispel some of the comments that have been posted about disabilities
It also goes with what the consultant said to me "just try and keep your wife safe and yourself sain

Will you be going to reception to pay your deposit ? If not, what's wrong with paying the balance the same way ?
CCC take deposits by credit card and the balance is taken on the day of arrival automatically. No need to go into reception.

Woe betide anyone that hits my cone

We are members of both clubs and yes prior to Covid 19 the C&CC did try to give you a choice of available pitches.
However since the pandemic sites have been busier and the choices not always available. This year when touring in May, June and July there was only 1 site that we were 'offered' a selection. At all other sites if we wanted a different pitch to what had been allocated it was very much like stepping back in time. Some site staff were more helpful than others.
Hopefully when/if things ease a bit they will go back to offering a choice.
I will agree with others that the C&CC booking in system is a much slicker process.

Haven at Great Yarmouth since our last visit and Searles at Hunstanton both have security staff on their entry barriers ,the reason being?
ANPR has been found to be to unreliable ,if not continually "adjusted" as they say
And as pointed out at thIs clubs AGM to costs of installing and running metered electricity on club sites at this time far outways what benefits it would have for members
