I paying by cash is not an option, that would be one more reason for me not to use this clubs sites.

On the C&CC sites I've visited, they have push button codes for barriers and facilities block. No fobs required, just a code. Given that the majority of CAMC sites are in the back of beyond, keys/fobs for facilities block seems a bit obsessive.

Although it seems you will be able to pay the balance on arrival, either by cash or card, that won’t be an option for the deposit. If the club truly wants to make things easier and flow more smoothly for members all payments should be electronic and preferably before arrival. Any future vouchers on offer should be of the e variety with a code that can be entered on the payment screen. We are after all almost a quarter of the way through the 21st century.😂

Agree entirely with your post DK...Vouchers and cash are a thing of the past and the club should move forward and discourage the use of ....
Aside...Just a point re the previous ANP posts...Cayton Village had ANP plus prepayment (except for casual arrivals) for quite a few years before the club purchased the site...

Morning
We do try to dissuade people from using cash DK. But, until the club decide we are a cashless one we'll all have to live with it. None of us know how deposits will be taken yet, it could be by direct debit, or bank transfer or even dare I say it a cheque in the post! We do still receive cheques for storage payments etc. And yes, the handling and banking of cash is a headache at times. Not sure about the security aspect, the site safe is insured up to a certain amount, that won't change.
Oh, and I think you'll find that the correct address is not "you wardens" it will be "you site managers"

Just to add, we have another zoom thing next week so at the q&a I'll raise the question regarding cash use.

I am always a bit puzzled by people wanting to pay cash, beyond perhaps low cost sundries and maybe the odd night. If you have to withdraw cash to pay for campsites why not cut out the middle man and just pay by card? COVID has given us good reason to avoid cash.
I like Steve's idea about being able to use the vouchers electronically. That is exactly what I do with the vouchers I get from JL via my Partnership Card. I spend them online at JL and just key in the voucher number. It can be a bit time consuming but it can be done.

Apologies to site managers, old habits die hard
I appreciate you and other site managers are unlikely to influence on how the deposits will be initially taken but from a general discussion point it would seem daft not just to insist on card payment (or perhaps vouchers if the technology is available) Many major retailers now don't accept cheques, its an old fashioned means of money transfer. It could be done by bank transfer but that is a lot of work depending on what device you use to set it up. My advice would be to go for a simple method ie, debit or credit card?

No apology needed Dk, just kidding!
Interestingly, last season after the first lockdown we pretty much insisted on card only everywhere. That worked well and we only went to the bank once in four months. This year totally different.
As site staff we've had a lot of input into the new system to make it user friendly for us as well as the paying customer. Payment methods have come up a lot, we'll just have to wait & see

We still have a cheque book, somewhere. And just about the only thing I like to have a bit of cash for is car parking, as it’s a faff downloading all the different Apps used around the country. But this last 18 months has been a complete transformation for us in terms of how we pay for things, with Apple Pay being our preferred, easy method. Just so simple. And quick. And no handling of paper money or coins is a whole lot better. It’s rare now to come across anything but the most artisan, tiny of businesses that doesn’t have some form of card reader. The Site Managers at Marazion had their own little device for selling the extras they provided, so even the old excuse of needing pennies for an ice cream is now defunct. Progress needs to continue going forward.
As someone who cares for a very vulnerable elderly, and lives with someone else a tad prone to medical emergencies, that or trekking off into the wild on his bicycle, owning and using everything a smart phone can do has made my life so much easier and less stressful. So many agencies now communicate and manage their services via modern methods, it really does make life so much easier. And no, it doesn’t intrude into my life. I still select which calls I take, which messages I answer, and other than on here and a bit of WhatsApp, I don’t bother with other forms of social media by choice.

...any particular reason why, W....?
we do have a small bit of cash on us at most times, but there seems little point in handing it over to the warden and then finding another cash point...

I agree cash sits in my wallet for months. It is mainly used to pay our excellent chiropodist, who despite being a lot younger than us has not gone down the road of electronic payments. The last time I used my cheque book was in 2018. It was only ever used big household bills like work being done, even that is now done by bank transfer. I don't have the equivalent of Apple Pay on my Android phone but perhaps I should investigate?
As far as payment on site is concerned I am not sure the Club should encourage members to pay the balance on arrival as it will just lead to delays. Is there anyone in the country who uses campsites that does not have a card of some sort?

Oh yes DK😁 As you know, we love CLs, and often not the posh pay online type, so we know loads where cash is still very much King. I always have a few notes in my wallet when we set off on a tour, and this has possibly been our main use of cash this last 18 months. Quite happy to deal in cash with these tiny businesses. Some we do pay online of course.
We love Apple Pay, I think there is an Android equivalent, so worth investigating. We did a lot of research around security of course, but, touchwood, no problems at all, and it’s easy to track your payments. Even my Luddite sister has Apple Pay now. (Dragged kicking and sulking into 21st Century via a new IPhone 😂) No leaving cards behind accidentally (twice 😱), no touching devices touched by others, no shuffling cards while others wait. Very easy👍 Lots of online businesses support it as well, and our Bank verifies things for us, so an extra layer of protection.0 -
Yes he was. Hope he is doing ok. Anyone in touch, please send regards.

We have some caravaning friends who will not use cashpoints ,of any sort and will only draw cash via the counters in either their bank or a post office and always pay cash for site fees
I did manage to get him to try a tap payment for some drinks last month, to save his dwindling cash
they are still of the attitude that cash is King for most transactions

I agree that paying in advance is a good idea, but the new system will need to be a lot cleverer than the current one. For example on my last trip to Burford I stayed for 10 nights but I had a guest staying with me for 4 nights. There was no way I could book that on the current system but the warden sorted it out quite easily when I got there. So let’s hope the new system allows that sort of occurrence to be booked.
I would also know if the new system will allow you to change dates within the 21 day period, providing there is space of course.

There is a whole economy in this country based on cash that never passes through a bank or any documented intermediary. From window cleaners and taxi drivers to major building work, there is an eagerness to not put everything through the books. So that cash has to be spent somewhere.
