I suppose it is one benefit of getting older and the age related discount is nice. However, I can’t help thinking that the CAMC discount scheme is fairer, as mid week discount is available to anyone who can holiday at that time. Any discount scheme has to be paid for by someone. I can only assume it is by those younger members who have to pay full price.

It isn’t but it does cover a much longer period than the mid week discount and is more generous. Although it is only available to us oldies. Because sites are now operating a contactless system, we had to email copies of our passports to head office and they sent us new cards.

Yes, we found the concessionary rate with C&CC to be a big selling point. We also found that many of their sites were just as good, facility wise as CAMC ones - Devizes, Priddy (Cheddar), Wolverley and Kingsbury Water Park to name just a few. If we were still caravanning, or thinking of returning to the hobby, we'd almost certainly use sites like that in preference to CAMC sites, but we'd rejoin the club to be able to use CLs.

My thoughts exactly, moulesy.  And since Covid we haven't used any site facilities anyway - much preferring the safety and comfort of the very large bathroom in our van. (Especially as I've now fitted a heated towel railsmile)

When comparing sites, location often has a high priority...

Just in case anyone reads the above and thinks that the CCC site at Priddy is a direct comparison for the CC site at Cheddar, bear in mind the Priddy site is in the middle of nowhere on the Mendips and is 6.5 ml from Cheddar, whereas the CC site is within walking distance...might be OK with a car but perhaps not so convenient with a larger MH.

sites are very liberal with their 'names' and the 'Bath' Chew Valley site being a case in point....it's nowhere near Bath...a 14 ml, 30+ min drive....

Good point. The locations don't compare at all and it never pays to try to compare sites when they are situated so dissimilarly.

a larger MH would present its own problems due to the club's narrow access road.

I have compared site prices at similar sites which are close together. We often use Slapton Sands C&Cc site which is close to CAMC Start Bay site. Prices are similar even with concessions and pitch options. It can be a bit of an illusion with concessions as prices in peak season start off at a higher point and "shoulder" seasons are often high too. Some don't like the journey to these sites but we're OK with it. I feel that both clubs offer similar prices, both offer CLs and CSs plus rallies etc etc and I'm sure both clubs keep an eye on each other's prices.

I would almost go as far as saying that it is location and closeness to somewhere, walking/bus ride, that almost exclusively decides our choice of site. Probably even overrides the consideration of on site facilities as we use our own anyway. I noticed in the latest magazine a new CL under "Bristol" yet its nine miles away! Fortunately in these modern times we have plenty of avenues of research available to us to avoid making a mistake.

As we do not usually go away much in peak periods, we find the shorter peak periods used by CCC are advantageous as we can use our age concession all the time.

With the CCC sites, we can also use the fact that school holidays in Scotland are different from in England and Wales, whereas CAMC generally increase prices on a lot of sites  in England as soon as the Scottish schools go on holiday.

CCC also do not seem to consider Easter to be a peak period in Scotland.....so far.   This can make a very large difference for us when comparing nearby or alternative sites.    A saving of £10 per night is quite possible.

Probably a good business decision by the club, when were in the lakes beginning of October I was surprised to find it was in the middle of the Scottish half term and there were many Scottish folk and young families on site and many Scottish voices in Keswick.

Up here, CAMC keep peak prices right into September to cover all the English school holidays, and the mid week discounts are not available in September either.

Then a week or so later we get caught up in the price hike for the school October weeks, and by the time that is over the weather has deteriorated.  I can see us sticking more and more to CLs in the future!

So far we haven't stayed on many but out of peak found them working out £7 to £8 a night cheaper. HS with EHU in all cases. One that was directly comparable, as it’s right next door, is Malvern and a guaranteed HS.😀

Others that spring to mind as being close are Crossways and Moreton, Merrorse and Veryan and the Sandringham sites. Others exist in the New Forest with Camping in the Forest sites near to both Black Knowl and the Centenary site.

The name changes that happened with a few of the Club’s Sites could be misleading to a few. For example Bourton, formerly Notgrove, is a good way from Bourton in the Water. Marazion, formerly Threeways, is another. Not walking distance for many.

My second son, who owns and runs successful businesses in the tourist hospitality sector, has just said that if the demand is still high at Broadway and Sandringnham with the prices the OP is quoting, then the Club has clearly slipped up and is not charging enough.

Anyone wishing to stay at Salisbury and not doing sufficient research, could be disappointed. CAMC Salisbury Hillside, on a hillside 9 miles from the cathedral. Salisbury C&CC on the hillside just below old Sarum and a fairly easy 2 mile walk to the cathedral.

Now that's a representative sample...a bit like the single Hymer owner you met who had damp issues....

CAMC 'Prices' is a recurring theme on this forum, where many a comment suggests they are high and rising, but the bottom line will be whether folk are still happy to pay them for what they get.

after spending this year in the uk and 12 weeks so far (with another three trips before we go to Spain in early January, it's clear to us that (personally) CLs represent the best 'value' and often location, with some commercials certainly 'offering more' than typical Club fare..

we still check out club sites when touring but have to compare against other options, in which case they are getting expensive for what they offer (for us).

it's down to each to make their own mind up but 'price threads' do seem to be very popular.
