It's reported on FB that there have been 3 more site closures from the end of the month. Alderstead Heath, Gatwick and Littlehampton. Apparently all down to staff shortages.

Can't see any announcement on here yet.

Sorry to come back late on this post. The report on FB was from a club member who had received an email cancelling their booking at Alderstead Heath. It was not reported by the club.

    Totally agree.

This platform should be the first port of call for important announcements. I have posted several times re lack of information from HQ. The latest was three days ago when I posted about lack of info from HQ on the 'Late Availabilty' post which had been running four days without any info from HQ. One day after my post Rowena replied with a response. But it shouldn't be that way, all we ask as members of the club and this forum is up to date information.

To hear about it on social media first from a third party is disappointing.

In fairness Gatwick and Littlehampton are usually closed for winter anyway, however, Alderstead Heath is usually open for Christmas, we've spent the last 12 years there (apart from 2020 obvs).

We're very disappointed and angry at the decision, they've offered Crystal Palace and Brighton as alternatives. We live in Brighton so that's pointless and we're not interested in central London.

I cannot believe that Brighton site has a greater demand than Alderstead Health.

I'm sure the CMC will offer some PR waffle but it's not acceptable. I've paid for 2 years subscription specifically to allow our Christmas plans to go ahead, they have ruined several plans and arrangements.

I'm well aware my rage and disappointment will make absolutely no difference to the situation but I intent express it directly to the Club so they are aware that members are unhappy. If we don't say anything they'll assume it's OK.

Gatwick has normally been an all year site as OH has used it when working in the area for many years. The membership renewal is usually yearly it is  with us.

I thought that to, didn't Malcolm stay there in winter on a seasonal pitch?

I'd also understood that Alderstead Heath had lots of workers that stayed on that site so the reviews were not always favourable.

If they haven't got enough staff to look after them what are they going to do, closing them temporarily seems to be the only way at the moment.

Gatwick is shown as being Open All Year in the handbook.

This isn't the first time the club haven't kept members informed of important decisions. Do they not realise they are in the Leisure Industry and this is 2021? It often seems to me that this club, lauded to high heavens by some members, are still not doing the basics right.

Run Sites - Have members? - keep them informed of decisions affecting sites!

    Not rocket science.

This can't be put down to lack of personnel. This sort of thing can be done from home or by the same person who has to go into those web pages of those sites and block any further bookings etc.

I don't think this forum should be the first place the club inform members of the temporary closure of sites. It is more important to place the information on the actual sites information page as has already been done apparently. Why do some members who use the forum always think this is the best platform to inform members of such decisions. As long as the members who have already booked the sites for the relevant periods are informed and the members who intended to book the sites can see that it is closed from the sites information page, then job done. As I understand it, only a small percentage of members bother with the forum anyway.

How many read the site  information pages , as can be noted by those arriving on sites early when it states on all sites information the earliest arrival time?  and site staff when pointing it out to members it is also on the confirmation emails ,are met with a blank stareyell

The reason people arrive at sites early has nothing to do with them not having read the information on the site page. !!!

I don't know as a fact but I suspect that the vast majority of members use online booking, there will always be a small percentage that don't. If the majority use online booking it means they have a email address so the Club could use that to keep members informed? I did have a look at the Gatwick site and there seems nothing on the webpage to indicate any changes except that the bookings after a certain date show as full.

The information is out there about Gatwick etc on the individual site pages under "site information." I can't quite understand why there is a "News and Events" area on the club web site which doesn't contain these updates.

I have just been on the Web page to check the site details, and there is information saying,

"we regret to that owing to staff shortages etc etc "

This is the message on the Gatwick Club web page for those that can't find it.

    Site information
Please Note: We regret to inform you that due to staff shortages, Gatwick Club Campsite will unfortunately be closed from midday Friday 5 November 2021 for the remainder of this year (reopening on 4 January 2022).

If you have a touring pitch booking beyond Friday 5 November please cancel or amend your stay. If you would like to move your booking to an alternative site, the nearest ones are Abbey Wood Club Campsite or Brighton Club Campsite which are both open all year round.

Storage Customers will be contacted separately.

I hope those with bookings will be individually informed. It would be terrible for them to turn up and find the gate locked.

It's certainly tucked away! I would have expected to be on the page that comes up from a site search?

An interesting explanation, how are they so confident they will have staff available on the 4th Jan. if as they say they are short staffed now.

Owing to cc site staff contracts are Normally for a Max of 10 months .next years site staff may well be those that were there , as other closed sites, this year.  ,and the club cannot get cover for the two months the sites have  had to close
