Paris/Brittany recommendations

Hello,

Looking for some advice please.  We are a family of 5 (3 children aged between 9 and 13) and are planning a trip to Paris and Brittany next year in our caravan.  Thinking of three full days in Paris (Eiffel Tower, Montmartre, Disney) and then the remainder in Brittany.  For Paris, I would be grateful for advice / recommendations on campsites that are easy for Paris (walkable / public transport) and for Brittany I would also be grateful for recommendations for sites with an easy walk to the beach.  Happy to get in the car to visit local towns / cities but need to be able to walk to the beach with all of our stuff!

Paris site that I've seen - https://www.campingparis.fr/  (any good?)

Brittany sites -

https://www.campingdeschevrets.fr/

https://en.campingdelabaie.com/

https://www.camping-duguesclin.com/

Would be great to hear peoples views on these or recommendations of others

Thanks in advance

We used https://www.camping-jablines.com/campsite-france-paris.html for Disneyland Paris...they have a shuttle bus service.

also, great bike ride all the way from Claye-Souilly to Monmartre...terrific.

    have a great time.

For Paris.   I think you must decide whether you want to stay near central Paris and travel out for a day at Disney, or stay near Disney and travel into Paris. Some do one and some the other. We have only stayed centrally at Camping International at Maisons Laffitte.

For Brittany. As in Cornwall there are surprisingly few sites with immediate access on foot to good beaches while carrying all your gear. One we know is Camping Fond de la Baie at Locquirec on the north coast. But it’s a two star site and you may want something grander.

For Paris, we used Le Chene Gris at Pommeuse.  The railway station is immediately opposite the campsite entrance.  The site also sold combined rail/metro tickets for any combination of days.  The journey is about 50 minutes from the Gare del’Est.

Flower Camping Le Conleau just south of Vannes isn't too far from the beach, about 400 yards or so. Vannes is lovely on market day and there are boat trips to the islands in Morbihan Bay from near the campsite.

Haven't stayed here since the Flower organisation took it over so check reviews.

'Quatre vents' is east of Paris . Lovely site with pool. Take the train into Paris after a short drive to the Station. Disneyland is also a short drive away.  Also Vaux le Vicomte just down the road!

Or try Rambouillet on the West of Paris, easy early drive into Versailles.

Another site in Brittany where there are pitches within ten metres of a good sandy beach is Camping des Abers at Landeda - but that’s way out near the western tip of France and a 550 mile journey if the OP is driving there from Calais via Paris, so perhaps go home on the ferry from Roscoff to Plymouth.

When we took the boys with us we started our search with the likes of Eurocamp as we knew other children were likely to be around and ease the pressure on us. We would then cross reference with C&MC in case they had links. This but UKCampsites in particular offered up lots of reviews so you really could get a good idea on what the site was like recently. The freshness of that review is so important as I recall calling in on old favourite of 5/6 years earlier that had changed beyond all recognition.

I get what you are saying Colin, though I found with reviews on UKCS that you needed to try to get a picture of who was writing them. I often looked to see if the reviewer had written about other sites that I knew personally to see how their impression compared with mine. There are 50 odd of my reviews of campsites in Europe on UKCS - though under another pen name. I’m still afraid that Club members looking for the sort of formal, sanitised sites they are used to at home must feel that my choices were misleading them. And one site recommended on here only the other day was one where we drove in, shrugged, and drove prompty out again. There were half a dozen like that.

Another shout out for Camping les Abers, direct access to beach. Also check out Camping du Letty at Benodet, water park, direct access to safe sandy beach.

Hi, Following the suggestions so far I hesitate to join in and this is due to the almost impossible task of guessing what will suit you and, as also mentioned, how sites that you liked may have changed. Any choice is likely to see some compromise and what we see as a an issue may never occur to others.

As said the romantic picture of a pitch beside the beach is not that easy to find and often, in Brittany, will be quite basic-and a long way from your Paris choices.

When we decided to visit Paris an early decision was that we would use a site that offered a bus service into Paris, was not too far from Eurodisney and close to Chateau Pierfonds where much of the filming was done for the BBC series Merlin-our then 12 year old Grandsons favourite program.

Berny Rivierre fitted the bill for what we wanted and had the added bonus of an indoor pool and on site restaurant-we went in April and it was bitterly cold so no BBQ or eating alfresco but unless the same criteria applied we would not visit again.

For Brittany our choice now would be different from when we took, as you will, children. Over many years taking our own and the Grandchildren we realised that great as a day to the beach was, they preferred to have a great pool.

Our last family holiday in France involved a two night stay in the Vendee area the year before, en route back to Roscoff from the Dordogne, and  visits and walk around of three sites. We were with our daughter, husband and her three children of 9,7 and 5 and we took two Grandchildren of 17 and 14.

We plumped for Pin Parasol and it was a great choice for what we wanted and on, our as it turned out, only day at the beach the predictable "when are we going back" question was asked.

It also meant that other than shopping we hardly left the site which made a nice change from constantly trying to find things to do with the children in a typical English, rainy, summer.

Another bonus was that we agreed to visit Puy Du Fou, it would not have been on our to do list, and thought it a wonderful day out. Our daughter has said it was their best ever family day out and I would gladly return again, as we did with friends in 2019.

If I was looking for a site in Brittany that was similar to PP it would maybe be Les Mouettes at Carantec-but if it was just for us more likely somewhere like Euror mentioned La Baie.

You will now have the long winter months ahead but can "escape" as you do your planning that will lead to an enjoyable trip next year!

For the Paris area, Maisons Lafitte is hard to beat, with easy RER link in to the centre.

For Brittany, Camping Des Dunes at Lesconil is a great choice for a quiet beachside site, and Camping Hortensias at Carantec is a good stop if you are going back on the Rosciof ferry.

Thank you all for your replies - really helpful and I will definitely look through all of the recommendations.  Also fully appreciate that what someone likes may not be another's cup of tea and I take any recommendation in that spirit.

    Thanks all!
