We seem to be spending vast amounts on storing, trapping and reducing co2. yet today we see that we are now generating the stuff to keep food on the supermarket shelves longer. Does any of this make sense?

It’s a tangled web. The CO2 produced to keep food fresh, help kill millions of animals humanely etc... is a by product of fertiliser production. The majority of these plants are US owned, but they are concerned about the gas prices to produce the fertiliser, so have shut down two plants. Hence the by product CO2 isn’t being produced. But never mind, UK taxpayers are going to fund to the tune of tens of millions of pounds to re open the production, get the CO2 flowing again.

The US owners must be rubbing their hands with glee. The money isn’t even a loan, it’s a gift. That’s what you get when you allow another country to have the monopoly stake in providing vital services. It’s also a coolant for nuclear reactors.......this is a b@lls up of magnificent proportions, way beyond the thought processes of your average career politician.....🥶

Fermenting with yeast to brew beer (or whisky) produces carbon dioxide.  Yet brewers are buying it in to use to inject fizz into the beer. No-one has yet explained why they cannot use their own CO2 instead of venting it to atmosphere and warming the planet.

Shows how ill informed most of our "eco warriors" are. Bet they also buy chickens in plastic from supermarkets.

Nope, getting political would be to mention a particular political affiliation. I carefully did not do that. This state of affairs goes back decades, not to the last time the ballot boxes were dusted off.
It’s more a comment on how our society has become more accepting of what important decisions are made on their behalf, either via acceptance, or ignorance. It isn’t until this sort of issue arises, that most folks realise and think about some of the decision that are taken by others, supposedly on our best interests.

I think it’s more a case of the general public having little understanding of the food chain and animal welfare in particular. Campaigners of all kinds are usually quite well informed.
I once had to explain to a builder doing some work for us what those large birds were at the bottom of our garden. He had never seen a live chicken before. 🤨

Most folk who care about animals & the Planet are either Vegetarians or Vegans so they’d not be responsible for Co2 pollution. Best thing to do Fish is research it & save both you & others embarrassing themselves any further👍🏻

Sorry but I do my bit. Buy from a butcher with no plastic/etc. Grow my veg. I do as I say. I also dont get  my knowledge from made up TV programmes or so called " celebrities" Old fashioned maybe but truer than most of the eco warriors.

I have liked your post this time, as I agree with what you say in your latest post

You must agree that some of your posts are a bit one sided ,when you comment about those who it seems., do not match your ideals. undecided

I do not understand who your post is aimed at ?

We live in a town  just over 20miles North of Kings Cross station (your townies oft quoted)

When I walk less than half a mile from our house ,there is a field of hebrideon? sheep, beyond them is mostly arable farmland  and a herd of English longhorn cattle. If I turn left and walk uphill about 300yds I am in ancient woodland. so townies being a rude word does not fit allcool

I do my bit also. I buy my chicken from Lidl as the alternative is a round trip of 15 miles to the nearest decent butcher

They’re clearly missing a trick but why do they have to make beer or any other drink fizzy?

Give me flat keg beer any day, hic.

All actions have consequences. 2 examples.  The drive to reduce  the use of Agricultural fertilizers means no CO2 to keep chickens fresh on supermarket shelves.  The spokesman for the M25 protest was shown not to have insulated his home despite qualifying for a grant. Their argument shot down. Plenty more examples where things are not fully not  thoroughly though through. Not getting into a discussion with Rocky as that gets post locked down.

What the end product is wrapped in is trivia compared to the life, welfare and hopefully cruelty free death of what was once a living creature. Hence the need for CO2 production.

Not sure if grants are actually available as they used to be a limited number in some parts of UK and not sure at present. However when he was talking of costa of 20K to insulate a loft and walls he was talking through the wrong orifice. Since around 1920 walls have been double skinned and a typical 3 bed semi probably around £1,000 to have it done at most.

Abattoirs use CO2 to process pigs and chickens.

No discussion needed Fish-you are wrong(again) the agricultural fertiliser plants that produce CO2 were shutdown by the owners due to the Gas prices making production too expensive. No plant working=no CO2. . .Simples👍🏻. You are most welcome.

No large energy user would be reliant on the spot price .Like all their commodities they would have long term contracts in hand. So the temporary hike should not effect them like this.

If you build and encourage a market on the ‘house of cards’ model, it’s only a question of time before it all comes crashing down.
