When looking at prices one must also remember that many years ago [when P & O were giving up the Western Channel] there was a bargain offer of £250 return for any length car/caravan or motorhome.  So  it makes todays prices look not too bad!

    Hi David,

    Thanks for that.

I have just obtained two quotes, one direct with ferry company £404, the other via the club £440, but could not find how to obtain site vouchers.   The dates used were 7 - 28 Sep 21.    I used the same ferry times for both.  I then chose a cabin each way which knocked the club quote upto £520.  I think the first quote takes into account my membership of Club Voyager, where we can get a 30% discount off ferry and in this case, £24 for outbound cabin and £5 for inbound cabin.

But no sub £300 tickets, unless I am getting something wrong!

Hi Bill, no specific dates in mind, just fetting a feel...

some of the offer (ITX?) prices arent for us motorhomers as i think some are 'caravan goes free' and others have vouchers included.

ive looked (hard) in recent years but have never got a 'deal' merely sticking with the tried and tested Poole route usually at about £120-140 each way.

looks like we might be 'doing Wales' for a few weeks so St-Tropez seems to have slipped off the listfrown

Going at the beginning of September for 4 weeks - life is too short to hang around.  Eurotunnel booked through the club site which gives a circa £40 discount over the standard fare.  Did it on my mobile and waiting w for the site to load and trying to enter a birth date were the main problem.

Hi BB, I checked twice and prices were consistent.

I have seen prices drop before but not from the quoted £632 for 2022 to the £355 paid in 2019.

The price was for a Plymouth to Roscof crossing, cabin overnight going out, car and 7.5m van.

As you say the cheapest prices are with a “van goes free” crossing and have till now been consistently near 50% less than direct with BF but, whilst we both enjoy a trip on the Pont Aven, it’s not a clear favourite for our Italian destination.

There has been a severe wild fire around St.Tropez area and a lot of campsites have ben evacuated and one at Grimaud has been completely destroyed by the fire  about 5000 hectares have been damaged and the emergency services are still working there and the fire is nearly all out so a area to avoid if anybody is coming to the south of France.

Enjoy your trips folks and stay safe.

Tammy, this might help. Go to the Sante.fr website and click Depistage  (testing). Then choose from the list of Departements the one where you will be in your final 72 hours in France, and click Antigen test.

You will get a list of everywhere that test can be done - doctors, nurses, health centres and pharmacies for each town in that Departement. Pick out the pharmacies - they will have a phone number showing so you can ring them in English and ask if they speak English too and whether you need an appointment. Agree a time.

After the test you will get a signed printed certificate of results of antigen test within a few minutes. The set cost is 29euros.

Thanks ET, things starting to come together now, OH is looking at the forms we need to fill in for entry into France, Germany and Switzerland.

Tests will be done I think in France prior to return.

Will have to wait for Boris's next announcement to finalise everything so fingers crossed they don't put them back on the naughty step. At the moment I think its even dodgy that these countries will still accept us.

I guess they are a bit behind us with the Delta variant but cases much the same so see minimal risk.  Also double jabbed so likelihood of becoming seriously ill and requiring hospital is minimal, its only barmy Boris who seems to think all this palaver we have to go through to line his cronies pockets who own the testing companies is going to make a difference.

Our numbers are fairly flat and the R rate is getting to under 1 at the moment so soon we would either be jabbed or had it so will have immunity, next on the list the kids and young ones who seem to be the major source of infections at the moment.

Like you we have fingers crossed Boris is too busy getting a kicking in parliament over the debacle that is Afghanistan to worry about any changes to the requirements.

Going next week for 4 weeks.  Life is too short to hang around.  Downloaded the French Anticovid app and uploaded the vaccination barcode.  Once I had worked out which app to use it was very easy.

Have pre-booked a few sites and they all flag up that proof of vaccination or a negative test will be required for entry and use of their facilities.

Booked Day 2 return test online with Boots at £75 per person.  Despite the press publicising that the NHS test price had been reduced, I could not find how the NHS Day 2 test could be obtained so opted for Boots on basis it could be trusted rather than the seemingly endless list of online testing sites.  We have been notified the tests kits will be delivered tomorrow presumably for self-use when we return.

Booked into a site near Eurotunnel for last 3 days of trip and found address of a French testing site for the return test.  Hopefully, it will be plain sailing.

We haven't booked any sites over there we never do.

Sites booked for getting down to tunnel from Scotland.

Tunnel been booked since last year just keeps getting moved.

Day 2 test we will sort before we come back, things could change.

Test in France will be at a Pharmacy somewhere if still required.

Scotland still don't have a digital version of the vaccination status yell so cannot do the French one although OH does have it on his phone. We have an official paper certificate from NHS Scotland that we have been informed will be accepted.

Switzerland just needs proof of double jab so that's fine.

Germany however we are a bit stuck at the moment as it would appear they don't have an english version of their entry form. I do speak some German but reading an official form is beyond me. We might not need to do one if we are coming from another EU country.

Spain we don't require one if travelling over land only if you fly or enter by ferry.

MH going to weigh bridge next week, we've not taken this abroad before so have no idea what it weighs when fully loaded.

Holiday insurance I am to do this afternoon.

    Have I forgotten anything undecided

I would think they will not bother as you are coming in from another EU country and unlikely to have border controls in force.

Hope you have a great time as Prescott says life is too short, Sean Lock died yesterday at only 58!!!

There is more to Cornwall than Newquay, you know. surprised

We were down there (Corecall,  not Newquay!) wink for a fortnight just last week and going back down next week for another fortnight. So far have had to pay to park just once and, having avoided all the crowded beaches have only had one day that could be considered "busy" - that was at Godrevy and we walked along to Hell's Mouth seeing about a dozen others.

And not a Passport, QR code or a PCR test in sight! smile

Yup infections on the increase, one of my granddaughters had planned to go to the Boardmasters Festival, but ducked out at the last minute, 5 of the girls she should have gone with all now covid positive

"There are fears of a huge Covid spike in Torquay as teenagers returning home from Newquay's Boardmasters festival at the weekend report that "everyone is testing positive"

we were Staying in Cornwall for 3 weeks during June and Newquay was a hotspot then, we are staying on a site well away from the coast and it is a relatively small site we stayed at the same site last year for the same period (September), it has its own swimming pool, sauna etc so thats me sorted.laughing

We should have been in Spain now staying our daughters holiday cottage, glad we did not go, temperatures in the 40c's and no lower than 30c during the night, she is suffering and she lived and worked in Kuwait before Spain so she is used to the heat. They do not have a/c, but people that do have been asked to keep usage to a minimum as the electricity supply people are having difficulty coping

Take care if you go to France they are struggling to contain the fires undecidedbut i think it is mostly in the South.

    Great !!!,

Well, fancy you bringing up the subject of dogs! How unexpected. frown

But, when we go abroad we have a very good friend (ex student actually) and she is always more than happy to spoil them rotten, (well, she hasn't met Ralph yet, admittedly! laughing)  so no dog passport needed!  smile

As I understand it, the Day 2 test has to be booked before you go abroad or at least while you are away and before you attempt to return.  To pass through the return check-in you have to have filled in the online passenger locator form and include the booking reference for the test.

what a cheap jibe, there was no "claimed" about it, we did, and it was necessary then to ensure we complied with post Brexit regulations, but it was money well spent, however, now our circumstances have changed slightly so going forward we will be able to keep pooch safe but not spend quite so much money, however, as we will not be going to France or Spain this year it is not an issue, and who knows what will happen in 2022, you might have gotten your fridge fixed, hope you got plenty of gas, you sure going to need it, fridge running 24x7 surprised
