Does anybody know what food you can take in caravan. The rules are not clear, some say you can take stuff for personal use, nowhere does it say anything about canned stuff, ie canned soups, what about packet soups. Has anyone got experience. We also need to carry special cooked frozen foods because of an allergy

We are not taking anything like fresh meat or dairy products.
Once we have done this trip we have more of an idea how strict things will be.
What we have done is change the time of our tunnel crossing. Now going in the morning so will have plenty of time to shop once we get across.

We are off a week Thursday, I think my wife has become an expert for paperwork, test required, and basically how the heck do we get over with the wobble.
Well we have ordered the kids Lat Flow test online (you can't use the NHS ones we had plenty of from school) @ £25.00 each from LivingCare along with the return Lat Flow tests for returning home. That was the cheapest we could find with a fast confirmed result back with the certificate.
Paperwork needs to be downloaded from the French Government website which is a signed statement which you have to take with you.
We have also downloaded the french Anti Covid App on the phone but not sure I need it when I have the NHS app (Not the crappy pingtastic one) with my cover vaccination certificate downloaded.
All we need to do is order the 2 and 8 day PCR Test - now these cost £40 each (you need 2 per person including the kids) so thats a £320 outlay ontop of the £150 we have spent on the Lat Flow kits. But we might see the 8 day test requirement get dropped while we are away so holding back ordering until we know what we need (no such thing as full returns on these things, not looked into distant selling regulations lol).
So yes, the cost has gone up thanks to the extra tests needed - the French are making it very very easy for the brits to visit - the issues seem to be the brit's letting us back in.
Extra work, but always think what my dad had to plan when he took our Marina 1800 and the abbey lancaster all the way to La Rochelle and hated the autoroute and was rubbish with the lingo. Dad, Im doing this for you.

Curly 1971, I fear you may be over preparing and over ordering tests.
You need no test to depart England for France. You only need a quick €29 antigen test and certificate from a French pharmacy in your final 3 days there to depart France for England. Once home you only need a Day 2 test but no longer need a Day 8 test.

I guess some folk are going for the shorter holiday not trusting that it can all change again at the drop if a hat.
Don't know how the tunnel is doing for business, we are using that in a few weeks time. Booked it last year.
I suppose some of the folk that normally go abroad in the Autumn are still being cautious and who can blame them. Of course some may be waiting until later on, with the 90 day rule now in some might go in October for 3 months.

i had a play with the online 90 day helper app and it didnt seem too difficult to fit in our normal year...
90 ish days early Jan till early April, then some UK touring and then a couple of months (60+ days) abroad late August till say mid October...
jist right for the following mid Jan...

Hi David, First off I hope you trip goes well! During our current Lago Trasimeno substitute UK tour we met with family and no know we will be unable to travel at our usual time in 2022 so yesterday had a look at prices for BF for June/July 2022.
We have regularly saved around 50% of the BF fare using CMC when travelling on the Plymouth/Roscoff route.
Yesterday I did a check for 2022-sadly the savings are no more-in fact booking just the ferry is more than direct with BF despite a price match promise.
For almost identical dates, and same out for & crossing, my 2019 crossing was £355 and next year it will be £632.
Its possible prices will drop but, as we near the end of a 26 night UK tour we have really enjoyed, that makes the increase even more noticeable.
Option B of using Harwich in order to visit Dutch friends enroute and then the Ferne & Reina passes is much cheaper at £190 for the ferry only.

I checked the Portsmouth price and, for the same type crossings,an overnight outbound, it’s more expensive at £654.
I could cut that to £544 by taking the afternoon sailing but the timings don’t work fir us.

I have been looking into getting a test in France, I think we will all have to be a bit careful on where we get them as they have to meet certain requirements or they will not be accepted by the border force.
I don't know about others but my French is not good enough ( non existent) to cope with what is required. Therefore I am going to type it all out and get it translated into French to carry with me.
Another problem will be, where are we going to be 72 hours before the tunnel crossing, how long will we have to hang around waiting for the results. What happens if we don't get the results or if they are late. All these questions are now going through my head. I know it will probably be alright but I can't help thinking what if.

We have only see a few brits here with LVs but have seen more brits about in cars and in supermarkets so some have come over.

We hope to get away next month but only about 60 miles from here as I would like to visit a garden that I have wanted to go to for about 3 years so this year looks about right to go and not far from home.

Allan, for curiosity i checked firtly Poole Cherboug but couldnt get any Club prices there, so changed to Portsmouth-Caen and our 6.4m van was £352 return.
last time the Poole crossing was around £245 but i know the Caen crossing is a little mote expensive.

About 3 years ago I stopped using The Clubs ferry/tunnel booking service because it was cheaper and more convenient for us to use BF Club Voyager. The Club used to give 15% discount but about 3 years ago that was reduced to 9%. I believe amendments are costly as well.
We are looking to get to France during September but noted that the Poole/Cherbourg service doesn’t start until 14 Sep. There are some ferries from Plymouth but they are more expensive. Our backup plan will be to use the tunnel when the school holiday silly prices cease and normal prices resume. What dates are you looking at?
